SCOTTISHJUNIOR CUP Senti-Finals OFFICIAL PROGRAMME £1.00 O.V.D. SCOTTISHJUNIOR CUP Senti-Finals Friday,12th April 1996 Auchinleck Talbot v Tayport Fir Park, Motherwell~ Kick-off7.30pm A. Monday, 15thApril 1996 Camelon v Pollok • LoveStreet, Paisley~ Kick-off7.30pm OFFICIAL PROGRAMME £1.00 SECRETARY'S SLANT Once gain we have arrived at the penultimate stage of the 0. V.D. Cup and this year's tournament has pro duced its own version of the Cham pions League The fact that all the semi-finalists are the currenfholders of their respective region's league crown is a real bonus . Last season Tayport won the Tayside League , their opponents Auchinleck were Ayrshire Champions , while Pollok of the Central League and Camelon from the East were also their regions top teams . Throw in the fact that Camelon are the holders of the O.V.D Cup and you have a truly intriguing semi-final combination and should guaran tee that both games will be very exciting. I am sure the ties will be a tremendous advert for the junior game . Playing the two semi-finals on separate days means neutral fans can go to both games and although some people would prefer to play on a Sati.Jrdayafternoon , it does give the clubs to play on the bigger stage of a senior ground . None of the four semi-finalists are new to the occasion and we are on familiar ground as far as the two venues are concerned with Fir Park having staged last years final whilst Love Street has regularly housed semi-finals in recent years . For Auchinleck such occasions have been with the exception of last year almost annual entries in their diaries. Pollok, too, have a great Match of the Day deal of experience of the tension which surrounds semi-finals . WhateverCamelon lack in experience, they make up for in form, being the only side to have appeared at this stage a year ago. And Tayport OVD and Cola although novices in terms of the junior scene have already estab lished their cup pedigree and are competing in the second semi-final despite having only first entered the O.V.D . Cup in 1990. Of course, the Junior Cup has been greatly enhanced over the past eight years by the sponsorship of 0 .V.D. and again I would like to extend the Association's thanks to the company for their committed support. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the officials of both Motherwell Football Club and St. Mirren Football Club fortheirkind co operation and assistance in staging the semi-final ties . As Fir Park is to stage the final as well as the Tayport v Auchinleck semi, we appreciate that Pollok and Camelon might feel as if the other team will be bettered prepared having already played there. So we have arranged for the winner of the second semi to be allowed time to get accustomed to Fir Park prior to the final. Finally, to all the officials , players and supporters of all four sides, congratulations on reaching the Semi-finals. O.V.D. SCOTLAND'S Last year's final was a great spectacle and I would ask all four club's to ensure that they are on their best behaviour . Demerara Kum No. I By all means play hard, but make sure you play fairly is my message to the four clubs in the penultimate round of this tremendous compe tition . JOE BLACK Secretary, Scottish Junior Football Association The Ayrshire club's phenomenal success during recent AUCHINLECK In his sec ond season with Talbot , he Ranger s last sea son. I was born at home – 125 Glasgow Road, A Dennyloanhead – on 12 February 1946, a few months after the end of the Second World War which, I suppose, makes me a ‘war baby’. I’m sure mum and dad, Mary and John, didn’t have their troubles to seek during that awful conflict but they seemed to come through it relatively unscathed. We had our home comforts, even though they were few, although everything still seemed to be situated outside. If you needed the toilet, you had to nip outside to the almost ‘al fresco’ cludgie, while the women all went out to the wash house to launder the clothes – and after they had finished, the kids were chucked in for their twice-weekly bath.

B BAIKIE, Dave 1954- Arbroath June 1997-Sep 19th 2000 Cowdenbeath Oct 11th 2004-Aug 3rd 2005 East Fife Apr 8th 2006-Apr 14th 2009 Honours: 3rd Division promotion 1997-98, 3rd Division Champion 2007-08 After a career as a player and manager in the Juniors Baikie was an initial success at Arbroath, winning the club’s first promotion since the 1970s. He resigned when the board refused to sanction a signing he thought had been agreed. He returned to the Juniors but was lured back by Cowdenbeath. His resignation came after admitting an assault outside a Dundee pub on the father of one his former players, which left his victim, scarred and visually impaired for life. He was ordered to perform 300 hours community service, pay his victim £3,000 compensation and told he was lucky to escape a jail term. After another stint in the Juniors Baikie returned as East Fife manager and led the club to the 3rd Division title in 2008. He quit somewhat surprisingly towards the end of the 2008-09 season to return to the Juniors once again. BAIN, John 1923- Meadowbank Thistle 1974-1976 Honours: None Bain first got involved with the then Ferranti Thistle in 1952 when they were playing on a public park. Under his management they climbed to the East of Scotland League and won the Qualifying Cup. In 1974 an Edinburgh journalist suggested to Bain that the club should apply for the newly created vacancy in the Scottish Football League. Much to his (and everyone else’s) surprise they were successful though the SFL insisted they change their name.
