(Adnkronos) - Nella lotta al racket e all'usura, ''e' profondamente avvertita l'esigenza di un salto di qualita', nell'attivita' di solidarieta'''. E' quanto sottolinea il Commissario straordinario antiracket Raffaele Lauro, nel 15esimo anniversario dell'assassinio di Libero Grassi, l'imprenditore siciliano ucciso dalla mafia il 29 agosto 1991. Lauro indica tra le finalita' dell'auspicato 'colpo di reni' contro usura e racket, ''una maggiore efficienza del lavoro amministrativo istruttorio, attraverso la standardizzazione delle procedure ed il potenziamento dei supporti informatici, degli uffici centrali e periferici dell'Amministrazione per una preparazione piu' esauriente dell'attivita' deliberante del Comitato, nella comune consapevolezza che la trasparenza e la tempestivita' di risposta alle istanze delle vittime generano il circolo virtuoso della fiducia tra i cittadini e le istituzioni''. Necessari anche ''una riflessione comune sui risultati conseguiti; un eventuale aggiornamento normativo, anche alla luce degli approfondimenti dell'Osservatorio permanente dei fenomeni dell'estorsione e dell'usura e delle iniziative legislative parlamentari, che porti all'istituzione di un tutor per le aziende, alla semplificazione delle modalita' anche temporali per l'accesso al fondo di solidarieta', al superamento di alcune criticita' esistenti come quella della morosita' dei mutuatari e a una nuova legge sul sovra-indebitamento''. (Sin/Col/Adnkronos) 29-AGO-06 09:29 MAFIA: COMMEMORAZIONE ANNIVERSARIO UCCISIONE LIBERO GRASSI A PALERMO CORONE FIORI PER IMPRENDITORE CHE SFIDO' RACKET (ANSA) - PALERMO, 29 AGO - Si e' svolta in via Alfieri di fronte al marciapiede su cui cadde colpito dal proiettile sparato dal killer Salvino Madonia, la cerimonia di commemorazione del quindicesimo anniversario dell' uccisione dell' imprenditore Libero Grassi. Sul muro di via Alfieri sono state appoggiate le corone delle giunte provinciale, regionale e comunale. Alla manifestazione erano presenti la vedova di Grassi, Pina Maisano, i figli Davide e Alice, con le famiglie, il prefetto Giosue' Marino, il sindaco, il presidente della Provincia, l'assessore regionale al Turismo, diversi politici e magistrati, il commissario nazionale antiracket Raffaele Lauro, un gruppo di giovani di Addio Pizzo. Assente la ''citta''', che sembra aver dimenticato uno degli uomini piu' importanti nella storia del movimento antimafia in Sicilia. Grassi denuncio' pubblicamente le richieste estorsive di Cosa nostra, sfidando con le sue parole il ''potere'' mafioso e per questo venne ucciso. Non ebbe il supporto delle istituzioni e dei suoi colleghi industriali, come e' emerso dall' inchiesta giudiziaria e come ha piu' volte denunciato la vedova ex senatrice dei Verdi.(ANSA). FK 29-AGO-06 “adotta la citta'”, la manifestazione che da anni coinvolge gli studenti delle scuole, avra' come tema proprio la lotta al racket. Partecipano il sottosegretario all'Interno, Ettore Rosato, il commissario straordinario del governo per il coordinamento delle iniziative antiracket e antiusura, Raffaele Lauro, e i componenti del Comitato di solidarieta' per le vittime dell'estorsione e dell'usura. Presenti anche il questore Giuseppe Caruso, i vertici di Guardia di finanza e 2 carabinieri, il prefetto Giosue' Marino. Alle 11, in prefettura, incontro con le associazioni antiracket siciliane aderenti alla Fai. Alle 12, conferenza stampa. Per Pina Maisano, l'imprenditore, "era una persona molto libera che esercitava la sua professione con grande coscienza e liberta'. Lui spesso scherzava dicendo che il suo nome, in realta', era un'etica e un destino". Con un velo di rammarico rivela il suo desiderio: "Vorrei che i palermitani vivessero in modo piu' consapevole, come i giovani del comitato Addiopizzo che, nonostante certe critiche qualunquiste, vanno avanti con le loro iniziative. Libero sarebbe stato sicuramente al loro fianco". E stasera, alle 21, per il secondo anno il comitato Addiopizzo ricordera' il coraggioso imprenditore: in programma al "Kursaal Tonnara - Vergine Maria", il dibattito "Dall'omicidio di Libero Grassi a oggi: mafia e antimafia, racket e antiracket" al quale interverranno don Luigi Ciotti, il procuratore capo di Palermo, Francesco Messineo, e il presidente del centro di documentazione Impastato, Umberto Santino, moderati dal giornalista Gianni Manzo. Gli attori Renato Scarpa e Claudio Gioe' interpreteranno brani dedicati a Libero Grassi. In chiusura concerto degli Stormy Weather. E la Confesercenti ha deciso di tappezzare la citta' di manifesti per invitare i commercianti a ribellarsi al racket: "Oggi i boss sono dietro le sbarre - dice il presidente regionale di Confesercenti, Giovanni Felice - la magistratura ha inflitto duri colpi alla cupola, ci sono le associazioni antiracket, i cittadini e gli organismi istituzionali che partecipano alla lotta contro la mafia. Ora che il sistema e' cambiato, i commercianti possono e devono denunciare i loro aguzzini". (AGI) Mrg 291038 AGO 06 RACKET: PAGANO E NON DENUNCIANO, 20 COMMERCIANTI SOTTO ACCUSA = (AGI) - Palermo, 29 ago. - Subiscono in silenzio il ricatto degli estortori e fanno scena muta davanti ai funzionari della Squadra mobile. Nel giorno del quindicesimo anniversario dell'omicidio di Libero Grassi, l'imprenditore ucciso per avere detto no al racket, trapela la notizia che venti fra commercianti e imprenditori, chiamati in causa dal pentito Francesco Famoso, hanno negato di avere mai pagato il pizzo. La loro posizione, secondo quanto riferisce il quotidiano La Repubblica, ora e' al vaglio della procura e rischiano, come nel caso di altre decine di colleghi, l'imputazione per false dichiarazioni e favoreggiamento. Famoso ha riferito con precisione i nomi di chi pagava il pizzo nel cuore di Palermo: da piazza Marina, al Capo, passando per corso Vittorio Emanuele e via Roma. "Si mettevano a posto subito - ha raccontato ai pm - non c'era bisogno ne' di attack, ne' di benzina". "E' anche grazie al suo esempio e al suo sacrificio - aggiunge - che oggi molte cose sono cambiate e che si e' creata una coscienza collettiva. Movimenti come quelli di Addiopizzo e di altre esperienze antiracket sono importanti proprio per questo". Photograph: David Levene It was Sunday lunchtime in Palermo's Piazza San Francesco and the air was thick with charcoal smoke and chatter. A vendor poked an octopus as it roasted on the open grill, releasing a whiff of warm olive oil and lemon that mingled with the city's characteristic scent of brine and dust. A girl carried a tray of sweet cannoli high above her head, navigating stalls of sardine rolls and anchovies frizzling in floury pans. The crowd went about its usual business - church bells chimed and a christening party spilt out of Basilica San Francesco D'Assisi, bobbing the newly baptized bundle as they strolled. But this was no ordinary Sunday market. It was the "Free Sicily" organic food fair, part of a growing and increasingly visible movement run by young Palermitans rebelling against the mafia, or Cosa Nostra, and the stranglehold organised crime has on the Sicilian people. They cannot even dent the mob’s earnings. This paper provides an answer by considering Mafia as an institution1 that arose in a unique cultural context. This context-a product of historical circumstances- included a system of widely held moral beliefs and values that were heavily influenced by the Church and were conducive to the development of Mafia. The first section explains the emergence of Mafia using the HCIA framework. Such an analysis contrasts with common stereotypes of Mafia as a purely criminal activity. The principal argument advanced is that the growth of Mafia was supported by Italian social and cultural retrograde conditions, most notably the practice of clientelism. The underlying system of social and cultural beliefs is a key element to every institution, as it contributes to regularities in behavior. El Komander, the artistic name of Alfredo Ríos, as well as other performers of the so-called narcocorridos (or, as it was later named, movimiento alterado) were forbidden to perform public concerts in Mexico. That was also the case in Michoacán, where a local public officer argued that Komander's ban was due to the lyric´s songs, which touch "very sensitive topics" (Velázquez, 2018). Certainly, most of his songs are dedicated to assert Mexican "narcos" as stylish and brave popular heroes. However, the lyrics of "La mafia se sienta a la mesa" were slightly different. Instead of glorifying exclusively Mexican “narcos”, this song did “[…] a twentieth-century history seen from the mafia’s point of view” (Ravveduto, 2014), in which “someone” in Sicily did start “everything”: “En un pueblito en Sicilia, un hombre empezó las cosas. Fue el padrino en la familia y fundó la Cosa Nostra. Desde Italia a Nueva York, traficó vino y tabaco. La mafia lo bautizó, fue el primer capo de capos” (In a small town in Sicily, a man started everything. He was the godfather in the family, and founded the Cosa Nostra.

    6 Nonviolent Resistance Against the Mafia: Italy onviolent resistance to the Mafia in Italy is not a new phenomenon. NMany readers are familiar with the campaigns of Danilo Dolci, the activist, educator, social reformer, writer, and poet. Over the course of the second part of the twentieth century, Dolci strove “to break the closed circle of poverty” in Sicily. 1 Known as the Italian Gandhi, he tar - geted the Mafia and corrupt, conniving government and clerical power - holders, linking their malfeasance to the grinding destitution, hunger, and violence he witnessed on the island. His nonviolent tactics included fasts, demonstrations, manifestos, alternative social institutions, sit-ins, radio broadcasts disrupting the government’s monopoly of the airwaves, strikes, and a reverse strike or “work-in” that garnered international at - tention. 2 Dolci and his followers—from illiterate villagers to trade unionists and intellectuals—challenged acquiescence to the exploitative system, pressured the state to support local development (including the construction of a long-awaited dam and access to clean water), and fos - tered community empowerment and cooperation. In spite of these col - lective efforts, the Mafia’s grip on Sicily remained tight. But in the first decade of the new century, a group of young people resumed the unfin - ished struggle.
