July 5, 2019 Honoring Our Girl Scout Sisters This has been an especially difficult and tragic time for our council as we mourn the loss of 11 year old Isabelle Meyer of Jasper, Indiana in an incident at Camp Koch last Monday, and of 7 year old Isabella Pfingston of Boonville, Council E-Newsletter Indiana last Thursday in an unrelated, but equally tragic incident. We also encourage you to keep Melinda and Judy, the adult from Girl Scouts of volunteers, and the Girl Scout camper injured in the camp Southwest Indiana incident in your thoughts and prayers. July 5, 2019 Cookie Updates What's Your Dream Adventure? In the 2019-2020 cookie year, we want you to chase adventures beyond your wildest dreams! So, what does that adventure look like? Horseback riding? Ziplining? Email [email protected], and let us hear your thoughts! A new version of the Cookie Permission and Responsibility Agreement is available for 2019-2020. This is the only version that should be used and distributed to Girl Scouts in your troop for the coming year. All older versions are not valid. The Cookie Permission and Responsibility Agreement must be completely filled out, signed by the Girl Scout's guardian, and returned by December 1st to GSSI. Calling All Community Partners! Each year our Service Unit Planning Teams come together and set goals for recruitment and retention in their areas to provide Girl Scouting to as many girls and volunteers as they can. Congratulations to Daviess and Gibson Service Units for meeting 100% of their girl and adult goals for 2018-2019! North Dubois and Spencer also acheived 100% of their adult goals! Thank you to all of our Service Unit Planning Teams and the work you do! Honor and Golden Honor Application is now online! Deadline is August 1st! This form is used for troops that achieve the Essential Elements of a Girl Scout Troop, and provide overall excellence in troop management and programming in a given year. To achieve this honor, leaders and girls must work in partnership with each other, other troops, Service Team, and council staff. See that form here! Media Team Event! Interested? RSVP at 812.421.4970 or contact Sydney at [email protected]! As a member of the prestigious Girl Media Team, you will have a very important role at GSSI. Together with other girl members across eleven counties, you will serve as a spokesperson for GSSI and the Girl Scout movement! While serving as an ambassador for the brand, you will also answer questions about your own Girl Scout experience and what it really means to be a G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-Taker, Leader™). Plus (with permission from your parent/guardian), you may be asked to share provided content about Girl Scouts’ mission, council events, new national programming, etc… on your personal social media accounts and participate in video and photo shoots that may be used by GSSI to tell our local story! Join thousands of girls in hundreds of state parks across the United States to find adventure, explore nature, and learn what Girl Scouts is all about! • Almost Full Moon Hike at Shades State Park Jul 13, 10 PM-11 PM, meet at Hickory Parking Lot Explore Shades with a Naturalist guided hike of Trail 5 and then 4. There are also programs available on Sunday, July 14: forest plant ID, wilderness survival, backpacking, beginner kayaking lessons, and more.
