Special Award Nominees New Talent Glynne MacLean 'Roivan Book One of the A'nzarian Chronicle' Services to Laurie Fleming: Fandom The retiring editor of Phoenixine, for producing more than 100 issues of a first class magazine. He has defined the standard to which all fan journals should aspire. Phoenix SF Society The group is an umbrella organisation for bringing fans together and encouraging and actively promoting science fiction as an interest. Phoenix has done a remarkable job over the years and its contribution to keeping science fiction alive and well in New Zealand deserves to be acknowledged. Special Award The board of SFFANZ has decided that we should present a Special Award to for the amazing achievement of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

The Sir Julius Vogel Awards recognise excellence in Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror by New Zealanders. The Sir Julius Vogel Awards are given for work by fans and professionals that was undertaken, completed or released in the year previous to voting. This year the works being voted on are from 2003. They are voted on by New Zealand fans and are presented at the National Science Fiction convention each year. The Sir Julius Vogel Awards are administered by SFFANZ, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Association of New Zealand.
