geteilte Stadt Berlin das Potenzial, weltweit ein Vorbild als teilende Stadt zu werden? Ist Berlin bereits auf dem Weg, eine Sharing City zu werden? Auf Initiative der Senatsverwaltung für Wirtschaft, Technologie & Forschung hat sich im Herbst vergangenen Jahres eine Arbeitsgruppe zur Ermittlung der Potenziale der Sharing & Collaborative Economy Berlins gebildet. Mit Andreas Arnold, Thomas Dönnebrink, Ela Kagel und Ute Scheub haben Kenner der lokalen Szene eine Studie erarbeitet, die Antworten auf die Frage nach den wirtschaftlichen Potenzialen und Handlungsempfehlungen für eine weiteren Ausbau dieser neuen Wirtschaftsformen geben soll. Abschnitt I beginnt mit einer Kontextualisierung und Begriffsbestimmung der Sharing & Collaborative Economy. Dem folgt eine Einschätzung über ihre weitere Entwicklung im globalen Rahmen und in urbanen Räumen. Weil die kommenden Jahrzehnte einerseits global gesehen von Klimakrise und Ressourcenknappheit geprägt sein werden, andererseits immer mehr Menschen in urbane Räume ziehen, liegt der Schlüssel zur Lösung dieser Probleme vor allem in den Metropolen. In Abschnitt II folgt eine Erfassung der Berliner Akteure. Wie an der Karte mit rund 200 Share‐ Unternehmungen abzulesen ist, die die Mapping‐Initiative „Sharing Berlin“ gelistet hat, gehört Berlin global zu den Städten mit der größten Vielfalt an Unternehmen und Initiativen im Bereich der Share & Collaborative Economy. Es schließt ein Kurztrip durch diese Unternehmungen an – kleine und größere, nichtkommerzielle und kommerzielle. Im Abschnitt III werden die Ergebnisse einer Umfrage unter 90 Berliner Akteuren der Berliner Share & Collaborative Economy vorgestellt. Der übergroßen Mehrheit geht es vor allem um Geschäftsmodelle rund um Ressourcensparen und Klimaschutz sowie dem Stärken von Nachbarschaftskulturen. Die Community erwartete ein starkes Wachstum für die nächsten Jahre. Sodann folgt im Abschnitt IV ein Überblick über die wichtigsten Sharing Cities weltweit. In der Gegenüberstellung von Seoul, San Francisco und Berlin erweist sich die junge Community sowie die ständig wachsende Zahl innovativer Startups in Berlin als dessen größtes Potenzial. Im Abschnitt V werden Handlungsempfehlungen vorgestellt, die sowohl an die Sharing‐Community als auch an die lokale Politik und Verwaltung adressiert sind. Etliche Strategien sind schnell und mit wenigen Mitteln umsetzbar, andere entfalten ihre Wirkung erst mittel‐ bis langfristig. Im Fazit wird dann die Frage beantwortet, inwiefern Berlin das Potenzial zu einer Sharing City hat. Es folgt ein abschließender Überblick über die wichtigsten Aspekte und Erkenntnisse aus der Recherche. Im Anhang finden sich sowohl Literaturhinweise als auch eine Liste von 100 Unternehmen und Initiativen der Sharing & Collaborative Economy in Berlin. Und die Zeitschrift Economist titelte im Mai 2013: “It’s time to start caring about sharing“. Die kollaborative Ökonomie verändert nicht nur unseren Lebensstil einschließlich Mobilität, Konsum, Wissen, Lernen, Arbeiten, Produzieren und Finanzieren, sondern auch unser Zusammenleben, Denken und Handeln sowie unsere Werte. Einerseits sind die Hoffnungen und Erwartungen groß. First, this MA thesis evaluates the factors contributing to the rapid increase of CC initiatives. These factors include technology, personal economics, environmental concerns, and social interaction. Second, the thesis explores the prospects and limits of CC in terms of sustainability. The most promising prospect is that CC seems to generate social capital and initiate a value shift away from ownership. However, institutional forces promoting growth limit this potential. The thesis concludes that CC itself is not enough to achieve sustainability, and therefore, more political solutions are needed. The changing notions of materialism and status in an increasingly dematerialized world Russell Belk THE DIGITAL WORLD One of the first things we do each morning – for some of us even before we get out of bed – is to check how our digital self is doing. What messages have we received on WhatsApp or WeChat? Who has tagged us in photos on Facebook? [What are those whose tweets we are] following saying? What is [the weather today?] How is our bank account doing? Who has shown an interest in our dating profile? How does our Fitbit or Apple Watch say we have slept? Rather than directly taking stock of our body to see how we are doing, we increasingly turn to our digital devices to see how we are. More accurately, we seek to find out how our digital doppelgänger is doing (Bode and Kristensen 2016). This estranged other or second self is our digital self, a self that is increasingly displacing our corporeal flesh and blood self in terms of its importance in our lives. Our avatars, selfies, and social media profiles are also who we are to those we encounter online. We would rather communicate through these doppelgängers than face-to-face, sometimes even when we are in the same room with someone. And we increasingly talk to Artificial Intelligence (AI) digital assistants in our homes, vehi- cles, and phones. We get our news, music, films, and messages through our digital devices. We feel naked without these extensions of self (Belk 2013). Our world is becoming more and more digital.
