It is said that it is one of the three famous holy sites for Kashmiri Pandits, the others are Martand Sun Temple in Anantnag and the Amarnath Temple. Do you know about Sharada Peeth, when it was established, who established it, is Sharada Peeth was a university also etc. Some accounts states that during the reign of Emperor Ashoka, Sharada Peeth was established in 237 B.C. So, it is almost 5000 years old ancient temple and also a centre of learning which was dedicated to the Hindu goddess of learning. According to another account this temple was built during the rule of Kushans early 1st century. While other account says that Buddhists had a strong involvement in the Sharada region but to support the claim researchers didn't find any evidence. Faiz ur Rehman Case Study of Sharada Temple states that Raja Lalitaditya had built the Sharada Peeth for containing the religious and political influence of Buddhism. This claim is supported because Lalitaditya was a master of building massive temples. Sharada Peeth stands on the bank of Neelam River close to the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) at a distance of around 140 km from Muzaffarabad and 30 km from Kupwara. According to some ancient accounts, the height of the temple is 142 feet and width is 94.6 feet. The outer walls of the temple are 6 ft. wide and 11 ft. long. Arches are of 8 ft. height. But the structure is damaged. temple Sharada is also regarded as a Shakti Peeth a shrine built on places where body parts of Devi Sati had fallen while being carried by her husband Lord Shiva. Therefore, it is one of 18 Maha Shakti Peethas or Grand Shakti Peethas, a highly revered temple throughout South Asia. Sharada Peeth means "the seat of Sharada" which is the Kashmiri name for the Hindu goddess Saraswati. Sharada Peeth is said to be an ancient centre of learning where the texts written by Panini and other grammarians were stored. Therefore, this place is regarded as a major centre of higher learning of Vedic works, scriptures and commentaries. One of the country's oldest universities known as Sharada University also stand here which is famous for his own script that is Sharada and it is said that earlier it has around 5,000 scholars and the biggest library of that time. MOHAMMAD USMAN Brigadier Mohammad Usman was born on July 15, 1912. On the 19 March 1935, as a young officer he was appointed to the Indian Army and posted to the 5th battalion of the 10th Baluch Regiment During the partition of India, Brig Usman, being a Muslim officer in the Baluch Regiment, was under intense pressure from the Pakistani leadership to opt for the Pakistan Army. However, despite the fact he was promised a future position as the Pakistan Army Chief, he was unconvinced. When the Baluch Regiment was allotted to Pakistan, Brig Usman was transferred to the Dogra Regiment. In 1947 Pakistan sent tribal irregulars into the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir in an attempt to capture it and accede it to Pakistan. Brig Mohammad Usman, then commanding the 77th Parachute Brigade, was sent to command the 50th Parachute Brigade, which was deployed at Jhangar in December 1947. On 25 December 1947, with the odds stacked heavily against the brigade, Pakistani forces captured Jhangar. Located at the junction of roads coming from Mirpur and Kotli, Jhangar was of strategic importance. On that day Brig Usman took a vow to recapture Jhangar a feat he accomplished three months later, but at the cost of his own life. In January–February 1948 Brig Usman repulsed fierce attacks on Nowshera and Jhangar, both highly strategic locations in Jammu and Kashmir. During the defence of Nowshera against overwhelming odds and numbers, Indian forces inflicted around 2000 casualties on the Pakistanis (about 1000 dead and 1000 wounded) while Indian forces suffered only 33 dead and 102 wounded.

Ancient Universities in India Ancient alanda University Nalanda is an ancient center of higher learning in Bihar, India from 427 to 1197. Nalanda was established in the 5th century AD in Bihar, India. Founded in 427 in northeastern India, not far from what is today the southern border of Nepal, it survived until 1197. It was devoted to Buddhist studies, but it also trained students in fine arts, medicine, mathematics, astronomy, politics and the art of war. The center had eight separate compounds, 10 temples, meditation halls, classrooms, lakes and parks. It had a nine-story library where monks meticulously copied books and documents so that individual scholars could have their own collections. It had dormitories for students, perhaps a first for an educational institution, housing 10,000 students in the university’s heyday and providing accommodations for 2,000 professors. Nalanda University attracted pupils and scholars from Korea, Japan, China, Tibet, Indonesia, Persia and Turkey. A half hour bus ride from Rajgir is Nalanda, the site of the world's first University. Although the site was a pilgrimage destination from the 1st Century A.D., it has a link with the Buddha as he often came here and two of his chief disciples, Sariputra and Moggallana, came from this area. The large stupa is known as Sariputra's Stupa, marking the spot not only where his relics are entombed, but where he was supposedly born. The site has a number of small monasteries where the monks lived and studied and many of them were rebuilt over the centuries. We were told that one of the cells belonged to Naropa, who was instrumental in bringing Buddism to Tibet, along with such Nalanda luminaries as Shantirakshita and Padmasambhava.
