Established in 2010, Spire was formed by a group of dedicated musicians, with the vision of creating a fusion between Eastern and Western genres of music. Through the use of traditional instruments from both ends of the globe, Spire has received high acclaim from audiences for their unique musical style and arrangement, ranging from traditional to modern pop music. Coming off of their sold-out concert at the Toronto Chinese Modern Art Academy, Spire looks to break convention and inspire listeners through their originality.

ANNA BELLA

Ashton Smith - Backup Dancer

Hailing all the way from Kyoto, Japan, Anna Bella is a 19-year old singer and dancer who spent her first year in Toronto as a university Drama student. As a child, she has garnered extensive experience in dancing and live singing, enabling her to develop a musical maturity exceeding beyond her years. Known for her strong yet sultry voice, she is determined to prove that artistry does not discriminate and that her small stature is not to be taken lightly. Alongside her backup dancer Ashton, with whom she’s very close, the pair will be gracing the Kollaboration Toronto stage with their first major performance.

BOSS DANCE COMPANY

Under the artistic direction of Leah Totten, BOSS is a professional collective of elite female dancers training in various, urban dance styles. Acting as a sisterhood to all its dancers, BOSS is dedicated to instill a strong work ethic and a drive for success to young women, especially those who are pressured to comply with certain norms perpetuated by media and society. Having snagged an impressive third-place finish at the 2013 Beatdown Competition and winning first place in 2012, BOSS seeks to take the Kollaboration stage by storm with their hard-hitting choreography and fierce charisma.

PLAITWRIGHTS AND CHARLESTON RELAY

This Filipino duo emerged swiftly in the Toronto music scene and is notably recognized as Plaitwrights. With the sweet, indie voice of Angela Abrenica and the skills of Xylk Lorena as an MC, the two deliver an eclectic sound that can be heard in their newly released EP, CMYK. Together with their eccentric band, Charleston Relay, they have jammed on some of the largest stages in Toronto including Youth Waves '12 & '13, UNITY Festival, and UNPLUGGED Festival. Foreseeing imminent plans to perform in countries abroad, they hope to represent Toronto the best way possible with their craft and integrity. Charleston Relay consists of Matthew Jokhu (keyboardist), Peter Eratostene (bassist), Edrik Barrozo (guitarist), and Alonzo Moore (drummer).

TINA HUNG

Tina Hung is a Toronto-born, -based singer/song-writer who began her musical journey at a very young age. Inspired heavily by the renowned Celine Dion, Hung shares a similar gift in capturing her audiences through the passion embedded in her powerful vocals. After attending university and working in corporate at one of the Big Four, Hung took a leap of faith to explore the world of music with a single goal in mind: to tap into the recesses of people’s hearts, where music sees no bounds and speaks for the everyday soul.

KEVIN WONG

Kevin Wong was first exposed to music at the age of three when his mother dragged him out of the house, ignoring his kicking and screaming, down a Montessori hallway to his first violin lesson. With a diverse blend of pop, soul, jazz, and rock, Wong's music often mirrors his own experiences – both as an Asian Canadian in a fairly diverse community and as a young man coming out following the reform of marriage equality in . His later work is a tribute to his personal experiences with love, loss, and observations of different communities. His songs and albums have been featured on OutRadio, Feast of Fools, Unashamed Faith Cafe, Queer Music Heritage, This Way Out, Bear Radio Network and Proud FM showcase during Canadian Music Week.

ANTO CHAN – HOST

A born performer in English, French and Cantonese, Anto is a stand-up comedian, poet and storyteller, emceeing at various events that range from weddings, children's events, and charity fundraisers to corporate functions and open mics.

With prior appearances on CBC Radio and Omni TV, his viral stand-up comedy video, featuring the Cantonese word "GOW,” landed on the front page of Reddit this year and amassed over 250,000 hits. He recently returned from a cross-Canada comedy tour, "The Sleeping in our Car Tour," in which he, Evan Desmarais and Michael Flamank independently booked and performed, hoping to inspire other performers to create their own opportunities when ready. He will also be competing in 's Canadian Festival of Spoken Word in November with the Bill Brown Slam team. His biggest passion is to facilitate avenues through which people can express themselves artistically and help build their confidence in return. He cannot wait to connect to the Asian community with Kollaboration and partake in the movement of talented performers who truly deserve their spotlight!

JEE YUN LEE – JUDGE Remote Host/Anchor

Jee Yun Lee is a remote host/anchor for CP24 and is an acclaimed journalist, best known for her work as a consumer specialist in Toronto. Born in South Korea, Jee immigrated to Canada with her fam- ily when she was a year old and eventually attended the Uni- versity of Toronto for History and Politics. Jee credits her internship with CTV's The Dini Petty Show as the catalyst that helped steer the direction of her career. In 1995, Jee returned to classes for Humber College’s graduate Journalism program. [request to omit]

She landed her first post-graduation job at CTV Saskatchewan and garnered credibility there as a videographer, anchor, weather reporter, producer, writer, and line-up editor. In 1997, Jee returned to central Canada, working for CHCH-TV in Hamilton for six years and subsequently with City-TV in Toronto for eight years. DAVID FORTEAU – JUDGE CEO – Rightfoot Studios, Choreographer, Dancer

A choreographer, veteran dancer and CEO of Rightfoot Studios, David Forteau is widely renowned within the urban community and is influenced by his training in Hip Hop, B-boying, Salsa, and House. His exposure has landed him work for TV shows such as Degrassi: the Next Generation and CTV’s the Listener, along with films that include Kick Ass, Camp Rock (both 1 and 2), The Hulk, Love Guru and more. With six years of experi- ence in dance, David partakes as a member of R.A.W. Dance Crew while contributing to Nu-Lite Entertainment, a promotion and entertainment company that hosts one of the largest hip hop dance competitions in Canada called The Beat Down. Having packed his network with the best in the dance scene, he seeks to further hone his busi- ness acumen and cement his place in the world at the top. KEVIN OH – JUDGE Finalist on MuchMusic: VJ Search 2013

Kevy made his first television debut on MuchMu- sic’s 2013 VJ Search and reality show, earning his place as one of the featured top 6 finalists. Since his inaugural debut, he has made appearances in his web show, KEVYLAND (produced by the Throwed for Days Network) and has been inter- viewed by Tim Gilbert on MTV Showtown. You- Tube fans will recognize Kevy from the viral hit video, “Zayn Malik Tutorial,” along with a grow- ing number of comedic videos featuring his antics. He is currently working part-time at TD Canada Trust while pursuing his studies at Ryerson Uni- versity’s Radio & Television Arts program, with fervent plans to make his way further into the in- dustry. His hobbies include watching Netflix, thrifting, and spending time with his grandmother.

MIRO OBALLA – JUDGE Partner – Taylor, Klein, Oballa LLP

Miro Oballa has been practicing entertainment law since 2002 in the areas of music, film, television, gaming, new media, dance, literature, and event promotion. Miro has extensive experience in all areas of the music industry, including endorsement, recording, publishing, production, management, touring, and personality rights. His expertise also extends to film and television in the areas of rights acquisition, rights management, talent representa- tion, production and distribution, and to dispute resolution. Miro’s own clients include Juno recog- nized artists and producers, leading new media companies, award winning film distribution com- panies and top athletes and on-air personalities. He is also actively involved in providing services for some of the firm’s other top clients including re- cording superstar Drake and mega producer Cirkut (Rihanna, Britney Spears, Flo Rida). Miro speaks regularly at NXNE, CMW and other workshops and events while being an active member of the board for the Manifesto Festival of Community and Culture. LIST OF ROLES

Front of House

1. Greeters/Guides/Usher/Freestyle-comp Scouts (Friendly, outgoing and intuitive volunteers for each of the roles)

 Greeters (2 in total; one on each side) <-----LOANNE and AMY Warmly welcome the guests coming into the John Bassett Theatre and guide them into the appropriate line-ups. - For example, there will be separate line-ups for purchasing tickets, pre-purchased ticket-holders, and VIP ticket-holders. *Note: Front entrance ticketing will all be done by the Marketing team

 Guides (2) <------HUNTER and ALEX Responsible for keeping the lobby organized and orderly. - Guides must take initiative to take charge if there are crowds of people blocking pathways, and kindly ask them to move to another location. - Guides must know the locations of the restrooms in case there are inquiries. - Guides must also kindly ask people to move down into the lower lobby if the upper lobby becomes congested.

 Freestyle Competition Scouts (6) <------SU, CHRISTINA, YIMOTUN, DAVID Responsible for finding people who are willing to perform during our Freestyle Competition. There will be a dancing competition and a singing competition. - A total of 12 competitors (6 dancers + 6 vocalists)

 Seating Ushers (4) <------SUKUN, SHARON, YOUNG JOO, ASHLEY KIM Responsible for facilitating the process of guest seating, and to kindly ask audience members to not leave any empty seats in-between. - Seating Ushers must communicate well with each other in order to avoid awkward seat gaps. - Seating Ushers must also be aware of VIP guests and make sure they are seated in their reserved seats.

2. Guards (Confident, assertive and responsible volunteers are needed for each one of these roles)

 Line-up Security (TBD on-site) Similar to the Guides, line-up Guards and Guides will work together to help maintain order and avoid pathway/door-way blockages. Unlike the Guides, Guards will have to be more responsible and take the initiative to put a stop to any disputes or fights that may occur and ask any disturbances to kindly leave. - Line-up Security must be aware of their surroundings at all times and make sure that guests do not enter any restricted areas.

 Doors (TBD on-site) Guards at Doors will have the responsibility to ONLY allow guests into the theatre in-between acts and performances to avoid any disturbances during the show. - These guards will also have the responsibility to make sure that no food or drinks are allowed inside the theatre. Only capped water bottles are allowed. Note: volunteers with this role must be aware that they may be required to stand for a long period.

 VIP Meet & Greet (TBD on-site) These Guards will have the responsibility of watching out for any obsessive fans or loud individuals that are trying to reach the guest acts. Also, VIP guests have paid more just to meet the guest performers, so to keep things fair, these Guards must make sure to clear the Meet & Greet are of clusters of people.

 On-stage hands(TBD on-site) Once the show has started, these Guards will be responsible for watching and preventing any audience members attempting to climb onto the stage before, during and after the show, for security purposes. Note: volunteers with this role must be aware that they may be required to stand for a long period.

Makeup Rooms 1. Runners (Active, friendly and assertive volunteers are most suitable for these roles. Both these roles are to make sure to help calm any nervous performers and give them words of encouragement.)

 Makeup Rooms (1 or 2) <------MHAY AND MELISSA These two volunteers will be responsible to prompt all performers of their cue on stage; giving a 15min warning and making sure that each performer is ready and out backstage 5mins beforehand. - As a makeup runner, it is YOUR responsibility to constantly check on each performer, and keep track of where they are at all times. - Make sure that all performers' hair, makeup and costumes are done 15mins before their prompted cue. - The Makeup Runners act as the 1st checkpoint to make sure that all the finalists have everything ready for their performance, which includes instruments/equipment, makeup and costumes.

 Backstage (1) <------SHAO The Backstage Runner will receive the standby performers by the entrance to the stage from the Makeup Room Runner. They will also work closely with the backstage Program Associates. -The Backstage Runner acts as the 2nd checkpoint to make sure that the finalists have everything ready for their performance, which includes instruments/equipment, makeup and costumes.
