Equitable Global Access to Covid-19 Vaccinations BMS World Mission, the Baptist Union of Great Britain, the Baptist Union of Wales and the Baptist Union of Scotland, together with the 241 member bodies of the Baptist World Alliance affirm that “in Jesus Christ all people are equal. We oppose all forms of racism, inequality and injustice and so will do all in our power to address and confront these sins.”1 We acknowledge the solidarity shared by millions of Baptists and non-Baptists alike in the face of the suffering caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. As we move into 2021, we also recognise our responsibility to participate in the solution to this crisis. We will do so by: • calling for the co-operation of governments to support co-ordinated mass vaccination systems and enhance access to vaccinations through aid and economic innovations. • urging Baptists, both in the UK and worldwide to participate in enabling global vaccination. • repudiating unhelpful narratives associated with mass vaccination and asking Baptists and all people of goodwill to do so as well. • issuing a clarion call for just access to Covid-19 vaccines globally – including five specific steps of justice necessary for equitable global access – and a shared solidarity in addressing this pandemic. Covid-19 has exposed inequality Inequality has been exposed in a multitude of ways during the Covid-19 pandemic. We have seen the lowest Human Development Index (HDI) countries struggle to address comprehensive testing and treatment of the virus, artificially masking its impact in many places.2 Stigma, failure to address other existing health concerns and economic regression have followed.

  • How the Vision of the Serampore Quartet Has Come Full Circle
Oxford Centre for Christianity and Culture, Centre for Baptist History and Heritage and Baptist Historical Society The heritage of Serampore College and the future of mission From the Enlightenment to modern missions: how the vision of the Serampore Quartet has come full circle John R Hudson 20 October 2018 The vision of the Serampore Quartet was an eighteenth century Enlightenment vision involving openness to ideas and respect for others and based on the idea that, for full understanding, you need to study both the ‘book of nature’ and the ‘book of God.’ Serampore College was a key component in the working out of this wider vision. This vision was superseded in Britain by the racist view that European civilisa- tion is superior and that Christianity is the means to bring civilisation to native peoples. This view had appalling consequences for native peoples across the Empire and, though some Christians challenged it, only in the second half of the twentieth century did Christians begin to embrace a vision more respectful of non-European cultures and to return to a view of the relationship between missionaries and native peoples more akin to that adopted by the Serampore Quartet. 1 Introduction Serampore College was not set up in 1818 as a theological college though ministerial training was to be part of its work (Carey et al., 1819); nor was it a major part, though it remains the most visible legacy of, the work of the Serampore Quartet.1 Rather it came as an outgrowth of the wider vision of the Serampore Quartet — a wider vision which, I will argue, arose from the eighteenth century Enlightenment and which has been rediscovered as the basis for mission in the second half of the twentieth century.

Several different constituencies within world Christianity held significant events around 2010. From 2005, an international group worked collaboratively to develop an intercontinental and multi- denominational project, known as Edinburgh 2010, based at New College, University of Edinburgh. This initiative brought together representatives of twenty different global Christian bodies, representing all major Christian denominations and confessions, and many different strands of mission and church life, to mark the centenary.

  • The Alexander Centre
The Alexander Centre Alexander Collection 2017 Collection Alexander The Alexander Collection The Alexander Centre The Alexander Centre is a Community Interest Company (CIC) and was established in 2010 with the aim of maintaining and developing Gatefield House in Faversham (now renamed the Alexander Centre) as a cultural and community centre for all the people of Faversham, and the surrounding villages. This large Grade II Listed building (circa 1860) was originally built as a family home but from 1943 was used as the Faversham Town Hall and Council Offices. By 2010 the building had become too costly for the Borough Council to maintain and The Alexander Centre CIC took it over that year to operate the building for the local community on a commercial but not-for- profit basis; leasing office space and hiring out rooms and the main hall as a venue for a wide range of community events. Art in The Alexander Centre Since 2010 The Alexander Centre CIC has made significant progress building up income and carefully investing in and restoring this historic and prestigious building in the heart of Faversham. It was apparent when the public rooms were restored that the walls could also become an asset to the community if we could use them to display and showcase modern art; so the idea of The Alexander Collection was conceived. From the start The Alexander Collection was devised as a win-win opportunity for all concerned; for professional artists, by offering them a year-long showcase for their work at no cost to themselves; for a local community based art gallery, providing additional display and gallery space and for The Alexander Centre, benefiting from works of art on our walls that we could otherwise not afford, to enhance our visitor experience.
