The Responsible Enterprise January 2014 1 EDITORIAL Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Uganda is as old as the private sector. Ugandan companies have always played a big Editorial Committee role in improving working and living conditions of employees and communities, whereby health topics played a major role. On behalf of Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) Board and the Advisory Council, I would first of all wish to congratulate the business community for having gone through 2013 despite the business challenges and sad demise of UMA patron H.E. Dr. James Mulwana (R.I.P) on 15thJanuary 2013. I call upon all the UMA members to be committed to the Association and emulate the great works and passion the late had, bearing in mind that his tireless efforts and contribution has yielded lots of fruits. I also want to congratulate the organizers of the 1st CSR awards and especially the German government through GIZ (Germany International Co-operations Agency) which supported the private sector to promote Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities by participating in the 2013 1st CSR Awards process in Uganda. It is no doubt, we the business community in Uganda, need to participate in CSR activities for the good of our communities and the environment.
