GUITAR AID Charity No 1122598 Patron Sir Cliff Richard OBE When it comes to guitars, Dave Sumner knows a thing or two; just ask Sir Paul McCartney. While Dave’s craft has led him to work with icons of the music industry, Dave now gives his life to spreading the power of Christian worship through GUITAR AID. Walking through Timisoura Square, Romania, tank tracks fresh on the ground from the country’s revolution, Dave Sumner’s heart was struck with compassion as the reality of those who had died for their freedom dawned. In his travel case Dave had six guitars, which he decided to give away in a hope that music and the ability to worship God through song may bring some form of healing. Thus GUITAR AID was born, with a vision to provide instruments to those who are unable to access or afford them. “It was strange how things worked out in 1990” said Dave. “In 1989 I was commis- sioned to make a guitar for Paul McCartney, it was a gold plated replica of his Hofner Violin bass and come 1990 all the publicity about that came out. Suddenly in every guitar magazine going there was a story about this guitar made for Paul McCartney - it was front page of the Daily Mail the day it was presented and suddenly I could say to all the guitar companies, ‘I’m the guy who made that guitar for Paul McCartney’. So I would ask them if they would sell me some of their second grade guitars so I could repair them and that is how all this started, we were buying guitars and repairing them.” “A Guitar has the ability to change the atmosphere in a church or a community” For more information on GUITAR AID go to - www.guitar-aid.com

I was lucky to get tickets for their concert on 16th December at the Haymarket Theatre, Basingstoke which was the 2nd to last gig on their 2017 tour, the night before they’d played Salisbury, then onto Coventry for Sunday. The first half was all about their very first album ‘Hark! The Village Wait’ released in 1970. The second half was songs from their latest album ‘Dodgy Bastards’ released in 2016. Maddy Prior - vocals / Auto Harp made an interesting statement “Why are politicians human beings when they are in opposition, but when they get power they become something else then loose power and revert back to being human beings”? During the interval Maddy Prior came walk about handing out flyers for an excellent project entitled ‘Stone Barn “Singing Together in Paradise since 2001” for more information go to - www.stonesbarn.co.uk The second half was just as lively they still have the same buzz and pounding beat, another band that enjoy what they play. The audience wanted more and the evening ended with the brilliant “All Around My Hat”. Worth looking into is their album ‘Wintersmith” in collaboration with the late Terry Pratchet. What an excellent evening of LIVE MUSIC….……….…. For more information - www.steeleyespan.org.uk www.maddyprior.co.uk
