Assessment of the Road Traffic Impact On Carpathian Journal of Earth and Environmental Sciences, February 2016, Vol. 11, No. 1, p. 245 - 254 ASSESSMENT OF THE ROAD TRAFFIC IMPACT ON ACCUMULATION OF SELECTED ELEMENTS IN SOILS DEVELOPED ON KRYNICA AND BYSTRICA SUBUNIT (MAGURA NAPPE, POLISH OUTER CARPATHIANS) Alicja KICIŃSKA AGH – University of Science and Technology, Faculty of Geology, Geophysics and Environment Protection, Department of Environment Protection, Mickiewicza Av. 30, 30–345 Cracow, [email protected] Abstract: The investigations aimed at assessing an impact of road traffic on the presence and the variability of Zn, Pb, Cr, As, Ti and Ni in soils of a protected area, i.e., the Poprad Landscape Park (Magura Nappe, Outher Carpathian). Soils collected represented three sets: basic samples, control samples and samples expected to be under the highest anthropopression. The assessment was based on determinations of the pH and the genetic type of soils, their total contents of the metals mentioned, and the forms in which cations are bound in the soils. Statistic parameters of these data (coefficients of variability and accumulation) formed the basis to identify the areas of the highest and lowest impact of road traffic on soils. The soils most affected are located in the 5-m wide belt next to the road margin. They reveal a significant change of soil pH and an increase of concentration of metals, mainly of Cd, Pb and Zn, in comparison to the geochemical background determined for the study area. Also the fraction of metals bound in the easily soluble forms is significantly higher in the soils adjacent to the road than that in the soils of the control set (samples of the lowest contamination); it is particularly expressed for Zn, Pb and Cd. Podchorazych 2; 30-084 Krakow e-mail: [email protected] ABSTRCT: The study presents pilgrimage sites located in environmentally valuable areas – the areas subject to two forms of nature protection in Poland, i.e. national parks and natural landscape parks. The purpose of the paper is to present, in quantitative terms, shrines in the protected areas of Poland and to analyse the scale and forms of tourism relating to these sites. The subject of the research includes only shrines of the Roman Catholic Church. A descriptive-analytic method, a dynamic-com- parative method, as well as statistical methods were used to present the study results. Over 70 of more than 830 shrines that operate in Poland nowadays are located in areas of nature protected by legislation. At present, in the area of nine Polish national parks, there are twelve shrines and pilgrimage sites that are frequently visited by pilgrims and tourists traveling for religious or reli- gious and cognitive reasons. Nowadays, in the area of Polish natural landscape parks (with buffer zones), there are more than 60 shrines. After presentation of the project scope and the partners, the municipalities which serves and links planned narrow-gauge railway have been characterized. Reflection of an idea for the railway in the existing strategic and planning documents has been identified. Functions of the railway and its situational and altitude alignment of its route are specified. The vehicles of the railway and the rules and examples for creating of schedules are generally characterized. The rules for construction of prognostic passenger flows by rail are de- scribed and selected results are quoted. The conclusions from the analysis of the environmental impact of the railway and the result of financial and economic analysis are presented. List of the expected main effects of the project and its potential impact on the development of transport technology is given. An idea of enlargement the territorial scope of the narrow-gauge railway project with proposal for its internationalization is presented. This includes extension of the route from the Szczawnica spa to the Krościenko spa and the branch route from the Obidza pass to the Stara Lubovna town in Slovakia.

Pastoral people who reached the Polish territory around the 15th century, bringing with them not only farming art of pasturing sheep in difficult, mountain area, but also rich culture, living till this day.
