Prof. Dr. Architect Wojciech Karol Wójcikowski Cracow University of Technology, Faculty of Architecture, Poland ABSTRACT The aim of the article is to present activities in Muszyna Zdrój, located in the region of southern Poland spa resorts. In Poland there are 45 spa resorts (mostly small towns and villages) half of them were developed in the southern part of Poland and many of them are interesting examples of the transformations of the urban public space in the spa resorts. Almost all those settlements are locate in the outstanding natural environment including landscapes, climate and above all in the water, confirm a number of studies and a long tradition of conducting treatment advances in medicinal uses of many diseases. After a period of stagnation caused by ownership transformations in health resorts associated with the privatization and the reprivatisation of property nationalized after the Second World War. As well as long-term negligence in the period of system change in Poland after 1989. The activities carried out during last 10 years in Muszyna Zdrój like in the other health resorts located in the south of Poland focused to improve the quality of public spaces in these towns. The spa resort is separate by the River Poprad from the town and develop separately. After few years of dynamic spatial changes in Muszyna Zdrój, the town and the spa resort become revitalized. Now Muszyna Zdrój is one of the good example of recent spatial changes in the health resorts of the whole of southern Poland spas. The main revitalization activities in the health resort consisted in creating a modern place for outside events, walking areas, place when everyone can drink the mineral water from the source and rest in different and attractive parks or spend time in outside mineral pools. New paths along the Poprad River and parks, designed and implemented in the spa part of the resort serves both residents, visitors and numerous tourists visiting the town and the spa. Muszyny, w krynickiej strefie tektoniczno-facjalnej jednostki magurskiej, znajduje się unikatowa mofeta CO2. Jest ona położona w potoku Złockim powyżej wsi. Mofeta w większości jest przykryta wodami potoku i wodą mineralną typu szczawa wypływającą z zatopionych źródeł, z obfitym rdzawym osadem ochry. Na dziale wodnym w kierunku wsi Jastrzębik znajduje sie wiele innych mofet, a wszystkie są usytuowane wzdłuż równoleżnikowego nasunięcia w osiowej części antykliny Szczawnika 3 Zło ckiego-Jastrzęb ika. Mofeta w Złockiem wydziela ok. 15 tys m CO2/d. Dwutlenek węgla pochodzi z głębokiego podłoża subdukowanego pod orogen Karpat. W 1998 r. mofeta w Złockiem została objęta ochronąjako pomnikprzyrody nieożywionej im. Pro! H Świdzińskiego. • Muszyna Almanac for Little Homeland 1991-2015
1991 NEXT Muszyna Almanac for Little Homeland 1991-2015 Introduction Over twenty-five years during which the Muszyna Almanac has been appearing, we have assembled between its covers a wealth of knowledge on the history and culture as well as the present day of Muszyna, Krynica, Żegiestów and a number of localities bordering the historic “State of Muszyna”, the southern Nowy Sącz district and the northern Spiš region. The knowledge we have gathered is now available to all interested parties online. Our yearbook’s traditional and electronic versions have numerous readers both in Poland and abroad. We live in times of dynamically developing contacts amongst representatives of different European communities. Moreover, we are dealing with a great wave of migration to and from Poland. Our compatriots living abroad have neighbours to whom they must convey knowledge about the land of their forefathers in the language of the country of residence. Therefore, if we want to present our achievements to the world and have other communities recognise them, we must also speak about our local history and culture in foreign languages. This publication has been prepared in five different language versions — Polish, English, German as well as Content in shortened Slovak, France and Hungarian versions. We invite you to take an imaginary trip with us along the Almanac’s pathways which serve to build a sense of pride in the history, culture and contemporary times of our Little Homeland. Chapter I The first chapter proposes a stroll across the Muszyna Almanac’s 25 yearbooks. The next chapter deals with the content of the Chapter Almanac’s bibliography.

There is no greater pleasure for a tourist than to discover and explore new places, find delight in nature and feel a delicate breath of warm wind. Once we find such places we cherish them in our memories for the rest of our lives. The Nowy Sącz land creates unforgettable pictures in our minds. The Nowy Sącz land is for everyone: those who prefer just revel in nature, the whole families with children, the elderly, the sportsmen – even those who are keen on extreme sports. Everyone will find something just for themselves. Each and every visitor will discover a place of their own that is bound not only to astonish but also to invite them back for the rest of life. Our region is worth visiting! CABLE CAR LIFT The cable car lift in Krynica-Zdrój is an element of the Jaworzyna Krynicka ski station. The cable car climbs the slope of the Jaworzyna Krynicka Mountain up to a height of 1,114 m above sea level. The journey to the summit takes several minutes. In winter, skiers (and in summer – cyclists) can carry their sports equipment in the cable cars.

A descriptive-analytic method, a dynamic-com- parative method, as well as statistical methods were used to present the study results. Over 70 of more than 830 shrines that operate in Poland nowadays are located in areas of nature protected by legislation. At present, in the area of nine Polish national parks, there are twelve shrines and pilgrimage sites that are frequently visited by pilgrims and tourists traveling for religious or reli- gious and cognitive reasons. Nowadays, in the area of Polish natural landscape parks (with buffer zones), there are more than 60 shrines.
