The house is a contemporary interpretation of a traditional country residence. The beautiful setting of woodland to the north with mature trees and fields to the south has directly informed the architecture of the building. The form of the house has been designed to respond to the topography of the site. The house has been divided into three sections, which are aligned on different axes to relate to distant views and points of interest. A sweeping, sculptural tiled roof line unifies the different sections of the house and relates it back to the gently rolling Essex landscape. A restrained palette of handmade Roman style bricks, clay roof tiles, green oak screens and larch boarding has been used for the external elevations. The emphasis on craftsmanship and the use of traditional materials causes the house to blend harmoniously into the landscape. The dramatic form of the house is a reflection of the internal functions of the property. The East Wing contains a formal reception room with the master bedroom suite above and the West Wing with its sweeping cantilevered first floor provides the family and guest bedrooms. The central section, or heart of the house, contains the family areas and the main kitchen. The retractable windows to the south elevation are large, modern and take full advantage of the panoramic views over the surrounding countryside. The reception rooms are all of generous proportions and the layout provides a great deal of flexibility for future use. The requirement for high levels of comfort and energy conservation has produced a bespoke engineering design for the plumbing, heating and electrical services. Gardens and grounds Bradbury House is approached through electrically operated wrought iron gates up a tree lined gravel and bitumen driveway leading to a turning circle, Carport and guest parking area. Large sections of the gardens are laid to lawn with a plethora of mature specimen trees and shrub borders. There is a separate area of woodland to the north and west of the main house. The Garden Room is a very useful outbuilding divided into three sections: a greenhouse, a central garden store and gardener’s facilities with kitchen, WC with wash basin, all with water, heating and electricity.     The Hundred Parishes An introduction to WICKEN BONHUNT Location: 4 miles southwest of Saffron Walden. Ordnance Survey grid square: TL4933. Postcode: CB11 3UG. Access: B1038. 2 miles west of Newport station. Shopper bus only. County: Essex. District: Uttlesford. Population: 223 in 2011. Wicken Bonhunt is a small parish covering an area of around one square mile or three square kilometres. It appeared in the Domesday Book of 1086 as two hamlets: Wica and Banhunta. Nowadays, the B1038, Wicken Road, passes through the village of Wicken Bonhunt itself and most residents live along this road. The M11 motorway crosses over Wicken Road just inside the parish’s eastern boundary. Only a hundred metres from the northbound carriageway stands the parish’s oldest building, St Helen’s Chapel. This tiny chapel of flint and pebble, comprising nave and chancel, dates from the 11th or 12th century and is one of the oldest buildings in the Hundred Parishes. For many years it was used as a barn, but is now treated with more respect, its 21st-century thatch shielding tiny 12th-century windows. In the centre of the village, the parish church, dedicated to St Margaret, has a 13th-century chancel. The rest of the church was almost completely rebuilt in the 1850s. The tower has a distinctive pyramid-shaped roof. Since 2013, the parish church has also been used as the village community centre. The village pub, the Coach and Horses, stands on the main road, close to the parish church. The thatched element is timber-framed and plastered, dating from the 17th century, and the brick-built extension was added in the 19th.

It addresses the need to provide for minerals requirements in accordance with national, sub national and local guidance, as well as social, environmental and economic considerations. It includes development management policies to guide minerals development and identifies sites for minerals development. For many years, ECC’s documents for policy development for minerals and waste planning were known as the Minerals Local Plan and the Waste Local Plan, the latest versions of which were adopted in 1996 and 2001 respectively. These are still the current plans providing the framework for determining planning applications. The Planning & Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 required us to prepare new policy documents replacing the Minerals & Waste Local Plans.
