EXHIBITIONS Felix Gmelin/Lauren Davis Fotogalleriet - 4th-29th April at 12.00-17.00 Fotogalleriet presents two solo exhibitions with the artists Felix Gmelin and Lauren Davis. A Story for You to Continue is an exhibition that opens up multiple narratives evolving around tragic stories of one specific species: the giraffe. Starting point for these narratives is the story of Marius the giraffe that formerly inhabited the Copenhagen Zoo. Marius’ life was terminated on 9th February 2014 to “provide space for more genetically valuable giraffes.” The dissection of the giraffe's carcass was turned into a public event with – according to the zoo – educational purposes, including feeding parts of the giraffe to other Photo: VisitOslo.com zoo animals. This incident naturally fostered overall ethical debates about what it means to terminate the life of an animal termed genetically unfit for reproduction. But it also highlights how such an incident is turned into a pedagogical instrument that lives its life beyond the actual event. Address: Møllergata 34 Group Show: Immortal Youth Galleri Riis - 3th-14th April. 12.00-17.00 In their annex, Riis Gallery has installed a group show with works by gallery artists. CONCERTS Oslo Philharmonic performs Brahms and Shostakovich: Circus and Solemnity Oslo Concert House, 5th April at 19:00 In the midst of the seriousness the richest melodies can be found, as well as a veritable gypsy celebration. This is how Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 15, his last, has been described. It feels like fun and games, but the seriousness, emotion and pain appear from just under the surface. The Brahms first movement is torn between the tumultuous and the lyrical. The second movement opens calmly with an oboe solo and the third movement is known for its bohemian character and its double stops in the Photo: VisitOslo.com opening sequence. Latvian Andris Poga and Dutch Simone Lamsma form a brilliant and serious pair for this occasion. Click here for tickets. Address: Entrance Johan Svendsens plass
