Jennifer McQuiston, DVM, MS, Deputy Director Division of High Consequence Pathogens and Pathology/National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, GA One Health is a collaborative, multisectoral, and transdisciplinary approach to public health that aims to optimize health outcomes for people, animals, plants, and their shared environment. CDC uses a One Health approach to prevent zoonotic disease outbreaks by working with physicians, veterinarians, ecologists, and many others to monitor and control public health threats. Using current diagnostics and surveillance platforms for rabies, hantaviruses, and orthopoxviruses as key examples, this talk will discuss the unique public health challenges—and opportunities—posed by zoonotic infections.
