Partner Resort Factsheets P A R T N E R R E S O R T factsheet Burn Park, nr Bude, Cornwall, United Kingdom The holiday cottages at Burn Park are set in 45 acres of delightful North Cornwall countryside, close to Bude Bay, an ideal place to explore all the delights of the north coasts of Cornwall and Devon. The village of Stratton is just half a mile away, and its twin town, the lively seaside resort of Bude, only five minutes drive away. Bude is popular with locals and visitors alike, with lots of shops, restaurants, pubs and one very special feature, the 19th century canal, which is now used for boating and fishing. Burn Park is in a perfect position to explore the surrounding countryside, being in Cornwall, yet close to the border with Devon and its outstanding north coast and moorland. On-Site All of the 34 luxury cottages and apartments have been individually designed to blend in with the natural surroundings, and are constructed from traditional Cornish building materials. Development of a further 19 units is envisaged for the future. Each of the small blocks stands within its own well landscaped area, with each unit enjoying a high degree of privacy from its neighbours. The accommodation is superbly furnished including a fully fitted and equipped kitchen, with dishwasher, refrigerator and microwave, Satellite television, video, radio cassette and cd player. • Mevagissey Parish Neighbourhood Development Plan
Mevagissey Parish Neighbourhood Development Plan Picture Copyright Sarah Olson, New York, www.sarah-olson.com Plan for the Period 2017 - 2032 Issue 2.0 Mevagissey Neighbourhood Development Plan February 2018 Issue 2.0 February 2018 1 Introduction Those who know Mevagissey would describe it as the classic working Cornish fishing port which is active all year round. It stands alone, untouched and geographically distinct from nearby conurbations. The village church dates from the thirteenth century and the streets have a medieval layout. History has it that Mevagissey was a centre for smuggling in the eighteenth century, building fast cutters for the smugglers and the revenue men alike. The port has an inner harbour which dries out between tides and a deeper outer harbour. A large and growing number of fishing boats work from the harbour which is surrounded by a conservation area largely consisting of ancient fishermen's cottages, renovated fish processing buildings and the grander houses of one-time merchants. The harbour hosts a boat-builder and repair yard, an aquarium and a history museum. The permanent population of Mevagissey has fallen slightly over the last 200 years but since 1930, the buildings in the village have more than doubled. This can be accounted for by lower densities of family occupation, but more significantly to improved mobility in the latter 20th century giving rise to a demand for second homes and as a retirement destination. Greater mobility has, however, not greatly influenced the employment prospects either in Mevagissey or in Cornwall as a whole, so living standards among residents deny many of them the opportunity to aspire to home ownership within the village.

Memories of Mid Cornwall Hamlets 1920-1945 and Beyond by Mr. J. Liddicoat Reproduced by kind permission of Mr. Kenneth Liddicoat MEMORIES OF MID CORNWALL HAMLETS 1920 - 1945 and BEYOND by Mr. J. Liddicoat CHAPTER I HOME LIFE IN THE HAMLETS The tiny hamlets of Gothers and Enniscaven saw many changes both in village life and industry during the period from 1920 until the end of the Second World War in 1945. The housewife and mother of the Twenties had a harder working life than any period since, no modern aids and nearly all manual work. The floors were just smooth finish concrete with perhaps a piece of coconut matting in front of the black stove used for cooking. The stove was manufactured within the area comprising of a fireplace and underneath this an ashes box. Adjoining the fire was the oven, about the size of a modern electric stove oven. A damper was fitted to divert the heat around the oven when needed for cooking before returning to the chimney. Some stoves had a fitted smoke-jack. This enabled the top of the fire section to be used as an open fire. Those not fitted with this appliance needed a blacksmith-made smoke-jack that fitted over the fire and connected to the flue above. The ladies took great pride in keeping the stove clean, some stoves had a smooth finish and others were rougher. The stylish ones were fitted with brass knobs and hinges on the oven door, all cleaned weekly with Brasso and the body of the stove with black-lead.
