It’s time for the album,” tells mastermind Chrigel, who revived the great concept after three successful albums in the usual ELUVEITIE style. »Evocation II« conjures another time travel to eras long gone. As the title already reveals, the concept of the first opus will continue and is entirely dedicated to the Celtic mythology. Even more, »Evocation II« takes you into the Gallic pantheon and bows down to the Celtic Gods after which the song titles are named. Anyone who will join ELUVEITIE on this journey will quickly notice that the character of each song is equal to the one of the God the song is about - and there is a lot more to discover! Because for real fans, this masterpiece is not only a rich bonanza of fascinating folk tunes, but also a foray through the band’s history. In a lot of hidden and less hidden details, ELUVEITIE use motives from older songs that feature a topical reference to the world of Celtic gods, and thus the band has built a number of bridges for you to engage in a real treasure hunt. “Obtained to Celtic mythology, »Evocation II« is the album where everything converges and returns to its origin: the otherworld,” comments Chrigel. But not enough! Because of the authentic and serious way of working, the creation receives its last hone of magic. Therefore, the singing on »Evocation II« is also in Gallic (old Celtic) and offers great atmosphere. For the lyrics, ELUVEITIE have worked together with Celtic scientists from all over Europe to do justice to this masterpiece not only musically. The lyrics are also reproduced in ancient handwriting from 2000 years ago in the booklet. For example in the style of the Defixio from Larzac, a well-known magical, Celtic curse inscription. Dip into an unusual listening experience that merges in its concept and offers a unique project! ELUVEITIE was founded in 2002 by Christian “Chrigel” Glanzmann and have become a well-known part of today’s metal scene since then. Their original mixture of folk and melodic death metal which is enhanced by the use of a number of traditional instruments caused quite a stir right from the beginning. After their debut album »Spirit«, the Nuclear Blast label debut »Slania« followed in 2008 and the band entered the charts for the first time. The break- through was done! Despite several line-up changes, the fundaments for the band’s success were now built, their success story now unstoppable. Fans in the whole world celebrate ELUVEITIE on their uncountable shows and prove that folk metal is more than “just having fun”. Despite their well-known earworms, authenticity is extremely important to the band. Thus, their way of combining entertainment with true knowledge of Celtic folklore is an un- beatable and unique combination. By now almost every album of the band has been a success and not even the last changes in the crew in 2016 could amend this - the best proof: »Evocation II«. Chrigel reveals that the new musicians had a great impact on the new record already. TOUR 2017 18.08. D Dinkelsbühl. Summer Breeze 28.10. CZ Zlin . Masters of Rock Café 05.11. B Antwero . Trix 20.08. • Shrestha 1 Nityam Shrestha Dr. Ackerman CS 185C February 22
Shrestha 1 Nityam Shrestha Dr. Ackerman CS 185c February 22, 2017 Celtic Pagan Music saved by Technology, Creativity and Belief Technology is now an integral part of everyone’s day-to-day life. After the industrial revolution (mid 1700s) and the digital revolution (late 1950s) our lives have been significantly improved. People are healthier, communication is easier, transportation is safer and the world is improving and becoming a better place to live. But these improvements have also changed the way we view and enjoy arts. Advancing technology also brought us many new forms of arts like graffiti (spray can), game arts (mobile/ web/ VR), 3D animations (games, movies, VR), sculptures (3D printing), etc. But technology has also shown us, both the better and the worst sides of it. With all these technological advancements people are forgetting old cultures and their art forms. Most people today are more familiar with native ancient traditions of the different cultures of the world, but barely of Europe. The Native American tradition, the tribal religions of Africa, the sophistication of Hindu belief and practice and the more recently revived Japanese tradition, Shinto, are widely acknowledge as the authentic native animistic tradition of their respective areas. In marked contrast, the European native tradition, from the massive civilizations of Greece and Rome to the barley documented tribal systems of the Picts, the Finns and other norther margins of the continent, has seen as having been obliterated totally. The Shrestha 2 people forgotten here, are the Celtic pagans. Their culture was superseded first by Christianity and Islam and, more recently, by post-Christian humanism.

  • Exploring the Chinese Metal Scene in Contemporary Chinese Society (1996-2015)
"THE SCREAMING SUCCESSOR": EXPLORING THE CHINESE METAL SCENE IN CONTEMPORARY CHINESE SOCIETY (1996-2015) Yu Zheng A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS December 2016 Committee: Jeremy Wallach, Advisor Esther Clinton Kristen Rudisill © 2016 Yu Zheng All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Jeremy Wallach, Advisor This research project explores the characteristics and the trajectory of metal development in China and examines how various factors have influenced the localization of this music scene. I examine three significant roles – musicians, audiences, and mediators, and focus on the interaction between the localized Chinese metal scene and metal globalization. This thesis project uses multiple methods, including textual analysis, observation, surveys, and in-depth interviews. In this thesis, I illustrate an image of the Chinese metal scene, present the characteristics and the development of metal musicians, fans, and mediators in China, discuss their contributions to scene’s construction, and analyze various internal and external factors that influence the localization of metal in China. After that, I argue that the development and the localization of the metal scene in China goes through three stages, the emerging stage (1988-1996), the underground stage (1997-2005), the indie stage (2006-present), with Chinese characteristics. And, this localized trajectory is influenced by the accessibility of metal resources, the rapid economic growth, urbanization, and the progress of modernization in China, and the overall development of cultural industry and international cultural communication. iv For Yisheng and our unborn baby! v ACKNOWLEDGMENTS First of all, I would like to show my deepest gratitude to my advisor, Dr.

I started taking notes, more or less at random, about the gods and gradually accumulated information about some 330 pagan gods and goddesses. Not wanting all that work to go to waste, and not knowing what else to do with the information, I decided to make a small dictionary and place it on several bulletin board systems, in hopes that others will find this little work interesting and useful. There is no pretense of original or exhaustive research here. The information is drawn from popular books and standard reference works such as can be found in any library.

  • Robert Graves the White Goddess
ROBERT GRAVES THE WHITE GODDESS IN DEDICATION All saints revile her, and all sober men Ruled by the God Apollo's golden mean— In scorn of which I sailed to find her In distant regions likeliest to hold her Whom I desired above all things to know, Sister of the mirage and echo. It was a virtue not to stay, To go my headstrong and heroic way Seeking her out at the volcano's head, Among pack ice, or where the track had faded Beyond the cavern of the seven sleepers: Whose broad high brow was white as any leper's, Whose eyes were blue, with rowan-berry lips, With hair curled honey-coloured to white hips. Green sap of Spring in the young wood a-stir Will celebrate the Mountain Mother, And every song-bird shout awhile for her; But I am gifted, even in November Rawest of seasons, with so huge a sense Of her nakedly worn magnificence I forget cruelty and past betrayal, Careless of where the next bright bolt may fall. FOREWORD am grateful to Philip and Sally Graves, Christopher Hawkes, John Knittel, Valentin Iremonger, Max Mallowan, E. M. Parr, Joshua IPodro, Lynette Roberts, Martin Seymour-Smith, John Heath-Stubbs and numerous correspondents, who have supplied me with source- material for this book: and to Kenneth Gay who has helped me to arrange it. Yet since the first edition appeared in 1946, no expert in ancient Irish or Welsh has offered me the least help in refining my argument, or pointed out any of the errors which are bound to have crept into the text, or even acknowledged my letters.

  • The Shifting Baselines of the British Hare Goddess
Open Archaeology 2020; 6: 214–235 Research Article Luke John Murphy*, Carly Ameen The Shifting Baselines of the British Hare Goddess https://doi.org/10.1515/opar-2020-0109 received May 13, 2020; accepted August 20, 2020. Abstract: The rise of social zooarchaeology and the so-called ‘animal turn’ in the humanities both reflect a growing interest in the interactions of humans and non-human animals. This comparative archaeological study contributes to this interdisciplinary field by investigating the ways in which successive human cultures employed religion to conceptualise and interact with their ecological context across the longue durée. Specifically, we investigate how the Iron Age, Romano-British, early medieval English, medieval Welsh, and Information Age populations of Great Britain constructed and employed supranatural female figures – Andraste, Diana, Ēostre, St. Melangell, and the modern construct ‘Easter’ – with a common zoomorphic link: the hare. Applying theoretical concepts drawn from conservation ecology (‘shifting baselines’) and the study of religion (‘semantic centres’) to a combination of (zoo)archaeological and textual evidence, we argue that four distinct ‘hare goddesses’ were used to express their congregations’ concerns regarding the mediation of violence between the human in-group and other parties (human or animal) across two millennia. Keywords: Archaeology of Religion, Animal Studies, British Archaeology, Comparative Archaeology, Social Zooarchaeology Abbreviations CISR = Corpus signorum imperii Romani, Corpus of Sculpture of the Roman World. RIB = Roman Inscriptions of Britain database. 1 Introduction: Shifting Baselines and Semantic Centres The recent rise of social zooarchaeology (Russell, 2011; Sykes, 2014) and the so-called ‘animal turn’ in the humanities (Peterson, 2016; Ritvo, 2007) both reflect a growing scholarly interest in the interactions of humans and non-human animals.
