    Catalogue of Photographs of Performers and Shows in the Archives of the Embassy Theatre Foundation The archives of the Embassy Theatre Foundation hold more than 3000 artifacts, including more than 600 photographs of vaudevillians inscribed to Bud Berger (long-time stage man- ager at the Embassy Theatre, known as the Emboyd until 1952); more than 300 posters, playbills, programs, stools, and even guitars signed by the stars and casts of shows that have played at the Embassy Theatre over the past forty years, rang- ing from classic and current Broadway shows to acrobatic groups, choral ensembles, dance shows, ballet, stand-up comedians, rock bands, country singers, travel films, silent films, theatre organists, and so on; and hundreds of publicity photographs of performers, shows, and events at the theatre, primarily from the period following the establishment of the Embassy Theatre Foundation and its rescue of the theatre from the wrecking ball in 1975; and a nearly complete run of the journal of the American Theatre Organ Society. The archive is now almost fully catalogued and preserved in archival housing. Earlier excerpts from the catalogue (available on the Archives page of the Embassy Theatre’s web site) cover the photographs inscribed to Bud Berger and the posters, playbills, programs, stools, and so on from later shows at the Embassy. This is the third excerpt, covering the public- ity photographs of the last forty-five years and a few photographs of earlier events, Bud Berger, and other members of the stage crew. He has performed with such notable jazz artists as Arturo O’ Farrill, Adonis Rose, Ralph Bowen, Matt Wilson, Dan Nimmer, Joe Sanders, Matt Ulery, Francios Moutin, Pete Zimmer, Adam Larson, Rick Germanson, David Hazeltine, and David Bixler. Jamie has performed with Grammy nominated R & B artist Eric Benet, and was featured live in his recent music videos, “The Hunger” & “You’re the Only One”. He has also performed with the Barcelona-based band Brazzaville led by David Brown (Beck), and comedian Bob Newhart. In 2005, Jamie was the featured artist on the nationally-syndicated NPR show “Says You!”. Jamie’s current projects include Dreamland (The Music of Thelonious Monk), and the Lesser Lakes Trio (with John Christensen and Devin Drobka). In 2003, Jamie recorded his first album as a leader “Song to a Rose”, featuring then 19-year-old bass phenom Joe Sanders.     “The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart”—Bob Newhart (1960) Added to the National Registry: 2006 Essay by Cary O’Dell Original album Original label Bob Newhart Bob Newhart’s landmark comedy album of 1960 has the distinction of being the first comedy album to ever win the Grammy for Best Album of the Year. It is also, to date, one of only two comedy albums ever to obtain that honor. (Vaughn Meader’s “First Family,” made two years later, would be the other.) Though it was just the third time the award had ever been given out, it was still no small feat; Newhart’s competition that year included music by Frank Sinatra, Harry Belafonte, and Nat King Cole. For Newhart, formerly a professional accountant living in Chicago, “Button-Down” was the spectacular start of a remarkable performing, recording and television career. The album would also prove to be a high water mark in American comedy as well as signify a major tonal shift in the world of “what’s funny.” George Robert Newhart was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1929. By his own admission, Newhart’s childhood gave him little reason to grow up to be funny. Unlike most professional comedians, he never felt h had anything to rebel against or defend himself from. Newhart claims to have had a happy, contented childhood in a Midwest, middle class and intact family. Still, from an early age, his knack for impressions (including Humphrey Bogart and James Cagney) and a highly dry wit, garnered him some attention as a low-key class clown.
