Apart from acting, Bachchan has also worked as a play- back singer, film producer and television presenter. He is also the recipient of the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan civilian awards from the Indian government. Life Amitabh Bachchan was born in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. His father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan was a well known Hindi Poet, and his mother, Teji Bachchan was a Sikh from Faisalabad, now in Pakistan. Amitabh was ini- tially names Inquilaab, inspired from the famous phrase Inquilab Zindabad, but at the suggestion of fellow poet Sumitranandan Pant, Harivansh Rai changed his name to Amitabh which means "the light that would never go off". Amitabh's mother had some degree of influence in his career choice because she always insisted that he should take center stage. After completing his educa- tion, Bachchan worked as a freight broker for a ship- ping firm in Kolkata, but then later gave that up to pursue a career in acting. In 1969, Bachchan made his film debut as a voice narra- tor in Mrinal Se's National Award winning film Bhuvan Shome. Thereafter he got his first acting role as one of the seven protagonists in 'Saat Hindustani' and even though the film was not a financial success, Bachchan won his first National Film Award for Best Newcomer. Bachchan from then on starred in a number of films which became huge box-office hits like 'Anand', 'Zan- jeer', 'Deewar' and 'Sholay' with the latter becoming the highest grossing film of all time in India, earning INR 2,36,45,00,000. Bachchan in this film played the role of Jaidev and in 1999, BBC India declared it the "Film of the Millennium' and like Dewaar, has been cited by Indiatimes movies as amongst the Top 25 Must See Bollywood Films. FUN FOR ME! Copyright © 2012 Mocomi & Anibrain Digital Technologies Pvt. Ltd. All Rights Reserved. The period between 1988 - 1999 was a testing period for Bachchan. Almost all of his movies flopped and even his production house which was set up by him, failed to produce box-office hits. After nearly a decade, things started to turn with his appearance in Yash Chopra's Mohabbatein which turned out to be a huge box-office hit. Post that film he was part of a series of films which were hits like 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham', 'Baghban' and 'Black' and 'Paa' which helped re-establish himself as one of the indus- try's most sought after actors. It is said that his stint as host for the game show Kaun Banega Crorepati which was a huge success is what paved the way for his re-entry into Bollywood and every one admits that since, then great actor has never looked back. Clare M. Wilkinson-Weber TAILORING EXPECTATIONS How film costumes become the audience’s clothes ‘Bollywood’ film costume has inspired clothing trends for many years. Female consumers have managed their relation to film costume through negotiations with their tailor as to how film outfits can be modified. These efforts have coincided with, and reinforced, a semiotic of female film costume where eroticized Indian clothing, and most forms of western clothing set the vamp apart from the heroine. Since the late 1980s, consumer capitalism in India has flourished, as have films that combine the display of material excess with conservative moral values. New film costume designers, well connected to the fashion industry, dress heroines in lavish Indian outfits and western clothes; what had previously symbolized the excessive and immoral expression of modernity has become an acceptable marker of global cosmopolitanism. Material scarcity made earlier excessive costume display difficult to achieve. The altered meaning of women’s costume in film corresponds with the availability of ready-to-wear clothing, and the desire and ability of costume designers to intervene in fashion retailing. Most recently, as the volume and diversity of commoditised clothing increases, designers find that sartorial choices ‘‘on the street’’ can inspire them, as they in turn continue to shape consumer choice. Introduction Film’s ability to stimulate consumption (responding to, and further stimulating certain kinds of commodity production) has been amply explored in the case of Hollywood (Eckert, 1990; Stacey, 1994). That the pleasures associated with film going have influenced consumption in India is also true; the impact of film on various fashion trends is recognized by scholars (Dwyer and Patel, 2002, pp.

CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION A. Background of the Study Islam is one of religions in the world; the believer of Islam is called Muslim. They are spread in the world. According to their holly Quran, Islam asks to the believer to give harmony, love and good act to the other, but there are some parts of followers Islam that have perception that other religion such as Jewish, Christian are their rival, and Islam has to shatter the other religion, so they do extreme act such as bombing and attacking, they are called Terrorist. As a syllogism theory, people in the world think that, “bomber is terrorist” “Muslim is bomber” the conclusion is “Every Muslims is terrorist”. So there is an assumption that every Muslim in the world is terrorist and there is Islam phobia in some countries in the world. For example Muslims in America are often associated with terrorism, Muslim’s live begin uncomfortable after WTC attack at September 11th 2001. After WTC attack in America, Muslim live uncomfortably in America, because the agents of WTC attack are Muslims from Afghanistan, the agents of WTC attack take an Airplane and bring it to hit the WTC building. American is very sad because of that attack, because WTC is one of the business centers in America. After WTC attack, is the beginning of the war in Afganistan, because America wants to find the actors of WTC attack. After that attack, Muslims’s life begins different in America, they get 2 different treatment from others. They get discrimination from others in America.

The project set out to examine key moments of cultural creativity in nine cities across the world on the following premise: that at different times in different places through the twentieth century, the energy of the modern metropolis peaked to produce a cultural explosion, where the arts flourished in a dynamic and radical interchange. The reasons for these creative flashpoints are diverse, but each city, at its particular time, can be seen to have become a crucible drawing artists from the city and other regions into an artistic and intellectual ferment.
