Council Hosts May Lunch To Highlight Growth of Northern Ireland Company Randox Laboratories

The Ireland-U.S. Council hosted a small private luncheon In New York on May 14 of this year for some Council members and friends to introduce a fast-growing company from Northern Ireland - Randox Laboratories . The company is involved in the international clinical diagnostics business offering innovative solutions to laboratories worldwide. The event was co-hosted by John Reilly, a partner at the international law firm of Squire Patton Boggs LLP who also serves as a Vice President on the Council’s Board. The event was staged at The Metropolitan Club in midtown Manhattan and was chaired by Council President Brian W. Stack Council Membership Chairman Peter J. Hooper, Breda Ryan of Bank of Ireland John Reilly, Mark Campbell and Brian Stack. Council Board Member and former CEO of Revlon Alan Ennis with Orla Battersby who in his introductory remarks noted “Since becoming Council and Council Board Member MacDara Lynch. of Enterprise Ireland. President last November, I have been giving thought to things we might do outside our existing roster of activities to achieve our Council mission of encouraging closer economic and business links between the United States and Ireland. Today’s small private lunch is one such innovation. We hope to have more occasional smaller gatherings such as this one. Today we have an opportunity to be introduced to and learn more about an exciting company from Northern Ireland - Randox Laboratories. ” The Founder and CEO of the company, Dr. Peter Fitzgerald could not attend the event because of the passing of his mother that week. In his stead, Mark Campbell from the company’s headquarters senior staff delivered remarks and a brief presentation on the company’s history, business sector, product range and growth prospects. The company has manufacturing plants in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and, in the past three years, has opened facilities in the United States in West Virginia. The company Tom Gallagher (left) in-house patent counsel at Kadmon Pharmaceuticals and Attracta Lyndon, Peter Hooper with Council President Brian Stack. Ann Trimble of Barclays Bank ; Colin Neill of Boston Therapeutics and Maureen invested $7 million in a new 30,000 square feet manufacturing Richard Mattiaccio, Partner, Squire Patton Boggs. Bennett, Partner, Squire Patton Boggs (US) LLP facility in Kearneysville, WV. The company today is a global market leader in the clinical diagnostic industry. Randox products are used by laboratories worldwide and are highly-regarded because of their high quality and reliability. The company’s strategic vision embraces the challenge to develop better, more-sensitive diagnostic products that would ultimately help to improve human healthcare. The Randox mission statement is " Revolutionising healthcare through improving diagnostics ". A key milestone in the company’s history was its design of a Biochip Array Technology (BAT) that has changed the way diagnostic testing is viewed. Instead of a patient sample needing to be subdivided for each test result, BAT offers a diagnostic patient profile with each patient sample. So now the patient's need becomes the focus delivering the multiple results needed for improved diagnosis. From the beginning of a business which manufactured and sold John Fox with Cillian Ó’Brádaigh. Randox Laboratories ’ Mark Campbell addressed the group. John Reilly marshalled the proceedings at the podium. seven clinical chemistry kits, the company has expanded its portfolio of products to over 1,500 catalog items.

ake it ten of 11 years on the “good weather” front for the Ireland-U.S. Council’s New York Golf Day in M2014. This past June 28, we again enjoyed a repeat of the favorable weather conditions of previous years – which went a long way to ensuring a successful outcome for this always- popular event on the Council’s schedule.

This year again featured a full field of Council members and guests teeing it up at Rye Golf Club in Westchester County, a few miles north of Manhattan.

As we have noted in previous reports, there are many significant connections between Rye Golf Club and Ireland. Apart from having many members who are Irish-born or of Irish-American heritage, the course was designed by Devereux Emmet, who was related to one of Ireland’s most historic figures - Robert Emmet Patricia & Philip Sheridan were there. Mark Accomando of Sceptre Tours , Audrey Hendley of American Express ; Maura - who was executed by the British in Dublin in 1801 following Nolan of Irish Links Tours & Travel with Billy Condon of Tourism Ireland. the failed Rebellion of 1798, which was closely fashioned after the American Revolution of 1776.

Devereux Emmet also designed the course on which the first Irishman won a U.S. Open Golf Championship – in 2007 Rory McIlroy won on Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland.

The Connie Doolan Memorial Trophy was the day’s highlight, sponsored by Diageo in memory of former Council member and long-time Guinness executive Cornelius F. Doolan, our friend “Connie”. Our thanks to Council Board Member Bill Falvey of Guinness for the support.

The Council’s 2014 Student Work Experience Scholarships Program , which benefits from the Golf Day surplus revenues, was also highlighted during the presentations and dinner portion of the day. We appreciate the support of Diageo Guinness USA and Bill Falvey. Team Gibbons: Council Board Member Bill Finneran with Mike Fitzgerald; Frank McGloughlin, Consul General Noel Kilkenny, Ed Burns and Terry Caffrey. Council President-Emeritus Mike Gibbons and Steve Fitzgerald.
