HERI THE CLANCY BROTHERS The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem exploded onto the world stage when they took the Ed Sullivan Show by storm. They have since inspired generations of singers, musicians, songwriters and raconteurs, from Bob Dylan to Damien Dempsey. The Clancy Brothers Festival of Music and Art honours the tradition, melody and balladry of the world famous and hugely influential Carrick natives. Welcome (Mural by Sheila Wood - at Clancy House, Nano Nagle Resource Centre). Festival Information Point and Tourist Office The Festival Information Office is at the Tudor Artisan Hub, 42 Main Street, (next to the Strand Theatre), Phone 051 640921. The Hub will be handling bookings for the Children’s and Youth Workshops and The Strand Theatre. The Tourist Office is in the Heritage Centre,Main Street, Carrick-on-Suir. A team of dedicated staff is available to offer advice on the many tourist attractions in the town and hinterland. An exciting opportunity to enjoy an introduction to canoeing on our wonderful river. Discover why the river is such a special place, steeped in history and a haven for wildlife, and see Carrick from the perspective of the river and those who worked on and lived beside it.All equipment and guidance will be provided. CLANCY BROTHERS FILM Friday 1st June - Nano Nagle Chapel - 3pm - FREE (approx 1 hour) ‘It’s a Long Way from Tipperary and Antrim’, a documentary with live performances by the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, and interviews with many folk stars. HERITAGE WALKING TOUR OF CARRICK-ON-SUIR Saturday 2nd June - Heritage Centre - 10am - €5 Join local historian Tom Walsh on a walking tour of Carrick-on-Suir. Discover the sights and history of the town as Tom shares his unrivalled knowledge of Carrick’s landmarks and gives you an insight into the lives of its many colourful characters. MEET & GREET THE CLANCY FAMILY Saturday 2nd June - Nano Nagle Chapel - 12 noon - 2.30pm - FREE Come along to the beautiful Chapel in the Nano Nagle Centre to meet and chat with members of the Clancy Brothers Family. Browse memorabilia, share stories, tunes and laughter while reminiscing about the world famous musicians Paddy, Tom, Bobby and Liam Clancy who hailed from Carrick-on-Suir. RIVER WALK TO DOVE HILL Sunday 3rd June - Seán Healy Park Standing Stones - 9.30am - €10 (includes breakfast) Take a stroll along the River Suir Blueway, following the 18th Century Navigation from Seán Healy Park to Dove Hill. Enjoy the abundant flora, fauna and river life along the peaceful Blueway. A tasty breakfast awaits all walkers at Dove Hill Design Centre, after which transport back to Carrick is available. (Children/family discounts available). BLUEWAY CYCLE TOUR FROM CASTLE TO CASTLE BOOKING: TEL 086 833 4844 Monday 4th June - from Ormond Castle - 11.30am - €5 Enjoy a leisurely guided cycle on the towpath to Kilsheelan, (12.5kms), discovering the castles, towers and historic sites of the beautiful River Suir Blueway, hearing stories along the way of ancient places and characters from long ago, and experiencing the natural history and beauty of the Suir Valley. The tour begins at Ormond Castle with local river guide Brian White, who will be joined by raconteurs Walter Dunphy and Kevin Power. Afterwards participants can return to Carrick at their own pace. Please wear a cycle helmet. RIVERSIDE FAMILY DAY AND FREE OPEN AIR CONCERT Sunday 3rd June - Seán Healy Park - 2pm - 5.30pm With the return of many family favourites the Riverside Family Day has something for everyone. There’s inflatable fun, merry-go-rounds and amusements, pony rides, local and international traditional crafts, face painting, music, Irish dance, food stalls and a taste of international cuisine by Bridgewater House. There’s a free open air concert, this year featuring the Cedartowns and Carouse, playing foot stomping Folk and Americana, and contemporary and classic songs for music lovers to kick back and enjoy. Performers include Roisín Clancy and Friends, Ticketed Evemts Ticketed Maria O’Shea Enright, Phila Grace, the Tipperary Ramblers, Kevin Power, the Murphy Sisters and Maeve Quinton with MC Tom Nealon. CLANCY FAMILY CONCERT FEATURING FINBARR CLANCY, DÓNAL CLANCY, ROBBIE O’CONNELL, KEVIN POWER AND COLM POWER Thursday 31st May, 8.15pm - €18.50 Finbarr, son of the late Bobby Clancy, is a member of The High Kings and has taken their high energy folk performances audiences across the globe. Robbie O’Connell performed as a member of the Clancy Brothers group for many years as well as being known for his songwriting and solo performances. Dónal, son of the late Liam Clancy, is a former member of Danú and has an international reputation as a solo singer, songwriter and folk and traditional musician. Both Kevin Power and Colm Power have recently released albums of folk and original music to great acclaim. All native sons of Carrick-on-Suir, all Clancy cousins, all steeped in the Clancy family tradition, they are coming together to lift the roof off the Brewery Lane Theatre for a very special Clancy Brothers Festival concert. ‘THE SNUG’ LUNCHTIME THEATRE Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd June, 1pm - €12.50 (includes light lunch) ‘The Snug’, by local playwright Jack Ryan, is a one act drama set in Carrick-on-Suir during the 1st World War. Local townswomen meet in a quiet public house snug and a light is shone on their differing opinions about the war in Europe and their absent husbands. Directed by Peg Power. A light lunch is served after the play in the Brewery Lane Tea Room. FREDDIE WHITE IN CONCERT Friday 1st June, 8.15pm - €18.50 Freddie White, singer, songwriter and guitarist has been part of the fabric of live Irish music since the ‘70s. A founding member of Scullion and Fake, and having played with Clannad and toured with Eric Clapton, Freddie has been instrumental in numerous legendary recordings and performances. Freddie begins his 2018 tour of Ireland at the Clancy Brothers Festival, and with a string of seminal albums, unique covers and a mesmerising performance, this is guaranteed to be a a true highlight of the festival. CORDEEN IN CONCERT Monday 4th June, 8.15pm - €15 Four of Ireland and Newfoundland’s finest button accordionists come together as Cordeen. The cultural connection between Ireland and Newfoundland is at the musical heart of Cordeen with everything from lively foot tapping tunes to heartfelt songs and airs by Benny McCarthy and Conor Moriarty from Waterford and Kerry, and Billy Sutton and Graham Wells from Newfoundland. Featuring Robbie O’Connell, Martin Murray, Paul Grant and Tommy Keane, the members of Bread and Beer have built a reputation as folksingers, songwriters and musicians, working with The Clancy Brothers and other top Irish and international acts, as well as pursuing their solo careers.
