THE CLANCY BROTHERS and exploded onto the world stage when they took the Ed Sullivan Show by storm. They have since inspired generations of singers, musicians, songwriters and raconteurs, from to Damien Dempsey. The Clancy Brothers Festival of Music and Art honours the tradition, melody and balladry of the world famous and hugely influential Carrick natives. Festival Information Point and Tourist Office The Festival Information Office is at the Tudor Artisan Hub, 42 Main Street, (next to the Strand Theatre), Phone 051 640921. RIVER WALK TO DOVE HILL Sunday 3rd June - Seán Healy Park Standing Stones - 9.30am - €10 (includes breakfast) Take a stroll along the River Suir Blueway, following the 18th Century Navigation from Seán Healy Park to Dove Hill. Enjoy the abundant flora, fauna and river life along the peaceful Blueway. A tasty breakfast awaits all walkers at Dove Hill Design Centre, after which transport back to Carrick is available. BLUEWAY CYCLE TOUR FROM CASTLE TO CASTLE BOOKING: TEL 086 833 4844 Monday 4th June - from Ormond Castle - 11.30am - €5 Enjoy a leisurely guided cycle on the towpath to Kilsheelan, (12.5kms), discovering the castles, towers and historic sites of the beautiful River Suir Blueway, hearing stories along the way of ancient places and characters from long ago, and experiencing the natural history and beauty of the Suir Valley. The tour begins at Ormond Castle with local river guide Brian White, who will be joined by raconteurs Walter Dunphy and Kevin Power. Afterwards participants can return to Carrick at their own pace. CLANCY FAMILY CONCERT FEATURING , DÓNAL CLANCY, ROBBIE O’CONNELL, KEVIN POWER AND COLM POWER Thursday 31st May, 8.15pm - €18.50 Finbarr, son of the late , is a member of and has taken their high energy folk performances audiences across the globe. Robbie O’Connell performed as a member of the Clancy Brothers group for many years as well as being known for his songwriting and solo performances. Dónal, son of the late Liam Clancy, is a former member of Danú and has an international reputation as a solo singer, songwriter and folk and traditional musician. Both Kevin Power and Colm Power have recently released albums of folk and original music to great acclaim. All native sons of Carrick-on-Suir, all Clancy cousins, all steeped in the Clancy family tradition, they are coming together to lift the roof off the Brewery Lane Theatre for a very special Clancy Brothers Festival concert.

‘THE SNUG’ LUNCHTIME THEATRE Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd June, 1pm - €12.50 (includes light lunch) ‘The Snug’, by local playwright Jack Ryan, is a one act drama set in Carrick-on-Suir during the 1st World War. Local townswomen meet in a quiet public house snug and a light is shone on their differing opinions about the war in Europe and their absent husbands. Directed by Peg Power. FREDDIE WHITE IN CONCERT Friday 1st June, 8.15pm - €18.50 Freddie White, singer, songwriter and guitarist has been part of the fabric of live Irish music since the ‘70s. A founding member of Scullion and Fake, and having played with Clannad and toured with Eric Clapton, Freddie has been instrumental in numerous legendary recordings and performances. Freddie begins his 2018 tour of Ireland at the Clancy Brothers Festival, and with a string of seminal albums, unique covers and a mesmerising performance, this is guaranteed to be a a true highlight of the festival. This year, engaging with artists, writers and the general public we are ‘Giving Art a Voice’ exploring what art evokes in us and how it measures up to the original vision of the creators! The Hub will be featuring new landscape and figurative works by local artist Sheila Wood (051 898616/085 8149922, [email protected]). Sheila graduated from Camberwell School of Art in 1970 with an Honours Degree in Fine Art, Illustration, Printmaking and History of Art. Sheila has taught and painted ever since working on a variety of different subjects in several media including oil on canvas, stained glass, pottery. Sheila was president of the Nottingham Society of Artists in the 1980s. She was commissioned by the Palace of Westminster in London to paint a Ceilidh in Celebration of the Millennium which now hangs there. Her work forms part of many important collections throughout Europe.
