Married to Kay, they have 4 children – Laura, Leanne, Mark (up and coming referee) and Emma (plays U13 camogie for St. Pats – also a member of the Dublin U12 development squad). A Civil Servant, Donal also coaches the Naomh Pádraig U13 and Junior Camogie teams. He has been refereeing for 12 years with his biggest game in Dublin to date being the Senior B Final (2006). A member of the Inter-County Camogie referees panel for the last 4 years, he has taken charge of Minor B (2010) and Junior B (2009) All-Ireland Finals as well as National league Finals. Donal says: "I consider it an honour to be asked to referee the showcase match in the Dublin Camogie calendar."
