As a post-socialist city, the development of Ohrid has unique characters in terms of landscape, economic dynamics, and functional dimensions. The study's aim is also achieved by analyzing the validity and applicability of the Tourism Area Life Cycle (TALC) model with regard to the evolution of tourism development in Ohrid, specifically, and in other cities in general. The article emphasizes the connection between the city’s urban context and tourism development. The region borders with Greece on its southeast side. On its southwest side in Albania it shares the boundaries with Gjirokaster County, and shares the boundaries with Berat and Elbasan Counties on the west side, while in Macedonia it borders the Municiplaty of Bitola on the west, the Municiplaty of Struga on the east and the Municiplities of Debarca and Demir Hisar on its north. Countries and municipalities The region includes two municipalities in Macedonia, Resen and Ohrid, and the whole Korca region in Albania. Korca County includes the districts of Devolli (Bilisht), Kolonja (Erseke), Korca and Pogradec. Administrative division of Korca comprises four districts, 6 cities, 31 communes and 344 villages.

A special day is bringing the attention to the arts, artists and the role of festivals in offering artists the platform to develop their work. The European Festivals Association (EFA) is convinced about the importance of festivals, cities and decision makers on the local level and their interaction. Arts and the artists are the matrix of each festival. As is the city and its community. There is no community without the arts. The links between a festival and a city are strong. Cities and regions in Europe are natural partners for festivals (and for Europe) in their daily local work. At the EFFE Awards Salon, we are coming together: artists, festival makers, city representatives, European decision makers to express our readiness to act together, to increase joint steps and practical arrangements that enable arts, arts festivals, cultural activities as well as cities, and Europe, to do their respective jobs. It seems to us a unique composition of people here today and an opportunity for us to connect and empower our alliance to be meaningful, present and influential in the European story.     Looking back, looking ahead 2010 – 2014 European Festivals Association meets EU Commissioner Mrs Androulla Vassiliou Following the tradition launched in 2006 with EU Commissioner Mr Jan Figel’ 2014 Arts festivals meet EU Commissioner for Culture Mrs Androulla Vassiliou 30 January 2014, BOZAR, Brussels Continuing EFA’s initiative to hold once per year a round table with the European Commission to discuss future strategies and policies and possible partnerships between festivals and the European Commission on the 30 January the 2014 Round Table takes place at the BOZAR. This year will be the last round table with EU Commissioner for Culture Mrs Androulla Vassiliou – as her term finishes in 2014 after the European elections. We’ll take this opportunity to make an assessment of the most important changes in the relation to the European Festivals Association European Commission and its cultural policy in the past 5 years and think of the priori- ties in the agenda in the years to come on the EU level regarding festivals in Europe.
