251026-48469.2016-Code-Brochure Charitable Giving Resource Guide KNOW YOUR CHARITY. All charities have a specific charitable mission and provide programs and services to carry out that mission. Choose a charity with a mission that matches your own passions - a charity that can point to specific goals and programs it is sponsoring to fulfill its stated mission. INCLUSION IN THE SECC. In order to be included in the SECC, each Umbrella charity must represent at least 10 member agencies and submit a current license to solicit/registration or exemption letter, an audit report or copy of IRS Form 990, 501(c)(3) determination letter and a signed copy of the SECC non-discrimination policy. Visit www.MISECC.org for more information. DO YOUR RESEARCH. Charities that participate in the SECC can be found at http://www.misecc.org/charity_listings.html. These listings include contact information, website address and a 25-word statement. As a donor, it is smart to gather as much information as possible about your charity so you can make an informed decision about giving. Do your research so you understand how your money will be used.
