  • Piancornello Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva Tech Sheet
Piancornello Brunello di Montalcino Riserva COUNTRY ABV Italy 14.5% REGION VARIETALS Antoni Tuscany Sangiovese Galloni APPELLATION 97 PTS DOCG Brunello di 2012 Montalcino Wine WINERY Spectator The Pieri family bought the Piancornello estate in 1950 and initially grew fruit to sell locally, until 93 PTS 1991, when they began vinifying and selling their 2012 own estate wines. Piancornello is now owned and operated by Claudio Monaci and Silvia Batazzi. An 18th-century farmhouse anchors this organically-cultivated estate in the pristine nature of Montalcino, rubbing shoulders with centuries-old olive groves and Brunello vineyards. On their 10 hectares of vineyards, Piancornello cultivates predominantly Sangiovese vines with some Ciliegiolo. Their Sangiovese clones were chosen carefully to achieve low yields and looser bunches. Piancornello’s warmer and drier climate, as compared to the neighboring Chianti region, and proximity to the Mediterranean sea (45 km away) make this a prized site for winemaking. Piancornello’s vineyards grow on moderately sloped hills in rocky, volcanic soils with southern exposures, creating full-bodied, mineral wines. CULTIVATION A classic style Brunello di Montalcino from the southern slopes of this great appellation. In fact, Piancornello is located just outside of the town of TASTING NOTES Sant’Angelo in Colle, an area considered to be Made in only the best vintages for Brunello, this Riserva among the finest for the production of Brunello. is elegant and deeply sensational with roasted aromas, Spurred cordon. red fruit preserves, and spice. VINIFICATION 30 days of alcoholic fermentation and maceration in steel tanks and in wood, at a controlled temperature of 28-30 °C.

  • Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva DOCG
Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG The Fuligni viscounts came from an ancient Venetian family of leaders and generals who moved to Tuscany around 1770. The Montalcino estate was founded in 1923 and the present owner is the exquisite Maria Flora Fuligni, who works side by side with nephew Roberto Guerrini Fuligni, enologist Paolo Vagaggini and agronomist Federico Ricci, who is in charge of vineyard management. The property covers roughly 100 hectares (247 acres) east of Montalcino, the historic home to the most classic-style Brunellos. They have almost 25 acres (10 hectares) under vine, principally located at I Cottimelli (which lends its name to “Vigneti dei Cottimelli”), where the vineyards are located. The winery grows mostly Sangiovese for its excellent Montalcino wines, and just a bit of Merlot. Exposure for the vineyards is southeast and east facing, and the soils feature Tuscany’s typical galestro as well as clay and tuff. Each vineyard is vinified separately and the wines are classically inspired yet internationally appealing, featuring a strong backbone of acidity and smooth, polished tannins. Fuligni offers a complete range of Montalcino offerings, including Rosso, Brunello, and Super Tuscans, consistently rated among the top wines of the area. Fugligni’s Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a classic interpretation of the time-honored wine, made from pure Sangiovese grapes, grown exclusively from the estate’s oldest vineyards. The vines are close to thirty years old, with excellent exposure and stony tuffaceous soil dating back to the Eocene epoch. The grapes are harvested in early fall, and macerate for about eighteen days in stainless steel, where the wine continues to age for five more months.

Received: 30 May 2020; Accepted: 22 June 2020; Published: 30 June 2020 Abstract: The production of wines with peculiar analytical and sensorial profiles, together with the microbiological control of the winemaking process, has always been one of the main objectives of the wine industry. In this perspective, the use of oenological starters containing non-Saccharomyces yeasts can represent a valid tool for achieving these objectives. Here we present the results of seven pilot scale fermentations, each of which was inoculated with a different non-Saccharomyces yeast strain and after three days with a commercial Saccharomyces cerevisiae starter. The fermentations were carried out in double on 70 L of Sangiovese grape must, the most widely planted red grape variety in Italy and particularly in Tuscany, where it is utilized for the production of more than 80% of red wines. Fermentations were monitored by assessing both the development of the microbial population and the consumption of sugars at the different sampling times.

  • Rosso Di Montalcino 2019
Rosso di Montalcino 2019 Classification DOC Vintage 2019 Climate Spring 2019 started out with higher than average temperatures while the second half of the season ushered in cool, dry weather. The month of May brought frequent rain showers that led to a slight delay in vine growth but provided excellent groundwater reserves. The summer season was one of the hottest on record in the Montalcino area but despite the extreme heat, Pian delle Vigne didn’t see any major heat spikes; the area benefitted from well-distributed rainfall and excellent temperature fluctuations between day and night that provided ideal conditions for optimal ripening of Sangiovese berries. Harvesting activities, slightly behind schedule compared to seasonal averages, began during the last half of September with perfectly healthy and fragrant fruit. www.antinori.it Vinification Harvested grapes were brought to the cellar, destemmed, gently crushed and transferred into stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation took place at a controlled temperature of 25 °C (77 °F) over a period of 8-10 days. Once malolactic fermentation was complete, Pian delle Vigne was aged for approximately 8 months. Historical Data Pian del Vigne estate, located 3.5 miles (6 kilometers) to the southwest of the town of Montalcino, takes its name from a characteristic 19th century railroad station situated within the confines of the estate. The property consists of 460 total acres (184 hectares), 160 of which (65 hectares) are planted to vines with generally a south-western exposure at an altitude of 430 feet (130 meters) above sea level. Pian delle Vigne is the personal and profound interpretation on the part of Marchesi Antinori of a traditional prestigious wine such as Brunello di Montalcino.
