Merlot, Sant’ Elena, Venezia Guilia, ’07 $58 Ruby in color, this Merlot has perfumes of cherries and rose, with a palate that hints of chocolate and tobacco. A great food wine!

Corvina/Rondinella/Molinara, Allegrini, Palazzo della Torre, Valpolicella Ripasso, Veneto, ’14 $52 Thanks to the Ripasso technique, this wine has a particular structure and aromatic qualities, combined with an elegant and harmonious personality. A complex wine with pleasant raisined nuances and a lengthy, lingering finish.

Corvina/Oseleta/Syrah, Allegrini, La Grola, IGT Veronese, ’13 $58 Deep ruby red in color with scents of wild berries and juniper, this blend has a spicy, tobacco finish that lingers on the palate. This wine would pair great with spaghetti and meatballs or any meat based pasta.

Barbera d ’Alba, Marchesi di , Ruvei, ’16 $44 The color is a dark ruby-red with crimson shades. The aroma is fresh and intense with clean scents of wild berries and spices; clear but perfectly blended wood notes. The flavor is warm and robust, pleasant, good body and harmonic. The assembly in traditional large casks of Slavonian oak helps to make the wine more harmonious and increase the finesse of the bouquet.

Sagrantino di Montefalco, Tenute del Cerro, Colpetrone, Umbria, ’11 $56 Not for the faint of heart, this wine has ample nose of red fruit with spices and a hint of vanilla, dried fruits and chocolate. This is a big, spicy, red with with iron hints that make the long velvety finish almost ‘bloody’.

Susumaniello, Masseria Li Veli, Salento IGT, Puglia, ’12 $49 Ruby red with purplish shimmer. On the nose it presents a distinct red berry aroma from raspberries & sour cherry to blackcurrant; followed by licorice, rhubarb and rawhide leather. On the palate it tastes soft with a good roundness, very elegant and well balanced by a tannins party. The long finish on the palate shows a touch of acidity and a great freshness.

Negroamaro/Primitivo, Li Veli, Primonero, Salento IGT, Puglia, ’13 $44 A blend of 85% Negroamaro and 15% Primitivo, this wine has intense fruit aromas. Full, soft, rich bodied with a lingering finish of sweet tannins and dark fruit.

Negroamaro/Primitivo/Cab. Sauv, Tormaresca, Neprica, Puglia, ’15 $38 Intense ruby color with a nose of red fruits with soft, balanced acidity and tannins; delicious with the Rigatoni Bolognese.

Primitivo/Negroamaro, Cantele, Amativo IGT, Puglia, ’15 $64 It has an intense ruby red color with an aroma that suggests mature red fruits and spices, with a hint of vanilla. It is a decisive wine with definite fruity tones that remind one of the varietals. It is warm with fine tannins that give a pronounced vivacity on the finish.

Nero di Troia, Rivera, Il Falcone, Riserva, Puglia, ’09 $84 Dense and garnet in color, this wine is multi-layered with wild red berry fruit, leather, tobacco, and spice. Named to remember Emperor Frederick II of Swabia who built the Castel del Monte that is surrounded by the DOC and DOCG area.
