Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Ciacci Piccolomini “Ateo”, Toscana, Italy Welcome to one of the top Italian wine selec2ons on the planet! We are excited to share the journey with you as this list will take you all over Italy with the focus on Toscana and Piemonte. At Ferraro’s we feel that the Nebbiolo varietal is the ul2mate expression of what wine should be, of course if it’s tradi2onally made! Our Nebbiolo selecon is impressive, possibly the finest in the United States and one of the top in the world. We are proud to represent the major players of Italy such as Emidio Pepe from Abbruzzo where tradi2onal method will never cease, Soldera Brunello (by far the best Brunello in our es2maon), Biondi San2 Brunello and Bertani Amarone. As a special treat we also feature the big boys from Piemonte like Paolo Scavino, La Spinea, Bruno Giacosa, Giuseppe Mascarello, Bartolo Mascarello, VieT, Aldo Conterno and Luciano Sandrone. Some par2culars we recommend you make note of is the incredible collec2on of Angelo Gaja with over 40 selec2ons to choose from, and the ul2mate wine maker Giacomo Conterno’s creaons with two spectacular Barolo’s highlighted, Cascina Francia and Monfor2no which is possibly the best wine on the planet! We value the older tradi2onal winemaking processes and believe that French oak should stay in France. It is our firm belief that wines made in this fashion pair best with true Italian cuisine, which is simple, fresh and not over powered with garlic and other spices. As you peruse the menu you’ll find these are the wines we highly recommend. Just like the wines, we let our food express the tradi5on and flavors of Italy. If you have any ques2ons regarding our wine list please don’t hesitate to ask for our wine experts, Paolo Uccellatori or Gino Ferraro. It is our life long love and we are pleased to share it with you. Castello di Casole, a boutique hotel that had only been open for three weeks, is the centrepiece of a sprawling 4,200-acre estate with a number of restored properties. It also boasts an award-winning game reserve, which was of particular interest as, with the Mugello F1 racetrack and Montalcino's vineyards nearby, it helped make C di C a perfect base for the boar-hunting, Ferrari-driving, Brunello-guzzling fantasy tour I was researching for a client. On arrival, I was immediately given a large glass of prosecco and the Wi-Fi code (always great to see a hotel in tune with a writer’s priorities). The US adapters in our room, the practice of having one’s car “brought around”, and the fact that top New York outfit Italian Wine Merchants are the cellar partners for villa owners wishing to put together a wine collection in their new property, were all indicators of the estate’s target demographic.

  • 50% Vermentino, 40% Viognier, 10% Ansonica the 2015 Vintage Was
VIVIA Cateogory Maremma Toscana DOC (controlled appellation) Vintage 2015 Blend 50% Vermentino, 40% Viognier, 10% Ansonica Climate The 2015 vintage was characterized by a winter with abundant precipitation which assisted in creating important reserves of rainwater in the ground; a mild spring was followed by a warm and dry summer with temperatures above seasonal averages. Rains and a lowering of temperatures during the second half of August re-created optimal conditions for the vines. There were no problems of healthy development, and the vineyard continued to ripen the grapes in an excellent fashion, accumulating the typical aromatic substances of the different grapes varieties. Fermentation and Aging The varieties were fermented separately, and a small percentage of Viognier and Ansonica were harvested late in order to give the wine notes of warmth and ripeness. The grapes, at the moment of their arrival in the cellars, were given a soft pressing and the must chilled to a constant temperature of 50° Fahrenheit (10° centigrade) for 24 hours in order to favor a natural static settling of the impurities. The clean must went into stainless steel fermenting tanks, where it fermented at a temperature of 61° Fahrenheit (16° centigrade). A brief three month aging period in stainless steel tanks on the fine lees preceded bottling. Alcohol: 12.5% Historical data The Le Mortelle estate was once part of a larger property which already appeared on the maps of Tuscan Grand Duke Leopold II in the mid-19th century. The estate is located in the province of Grosseto, in the heart of the lower Maremma, approximately 5.5 miles from the town of Castiglione della Pescaia.

Piancornello is now owned and operated by Claudio Monaci and Silvia Batazzi. An 18th-century farmhouse anchors this organically-cultivated estate in the pristine nature of Montalcino, rubbing shoulders with centuries-old olive groves and Brunello vineyards. On their 10 hectares of vineyards, Piancornello cultivates predominantly Sangiovese vines with some Ciliegiolo. Their Sangiovese clones were chosen carefully to achieve low yields and looser bunches. Piancornello’s warmer and drier climate, as compared to the neighboring Chianti region, and proximity to the Mediterranean sea (45 km away) make this a prized site for winemaking. Piancornello’s vineyards grow on moderately sloped hills in rocky, volcanic soils with southern exposures, creating full-bodied, mineral wines. CULTIVATION A classic style Brunello di Montalcino from the southern slopes of this great appellation. In fact, Piancornello is located just outside of the town of TASTING NOTES Sant’Angelo in Colle, an area considered to be Made in only the best vintages for Brunello, this Riserva among the finest for the production of Brunello. is elegant and deeply sensational with roasted aromas, Spurred cordon. red fruit preserves, and spice. • Fit for Kings BAROLO, the Legendary Italian Grape of Yore, IS RIPE for ASIAN ROYALTY, WRITES JAMES SUCKLING
Fit for Kings BAROLO, THE LEGENDARY ITALIAN GRAPE OF YORE, IS RIPE FOR ASIAN ROYALTY, WRITES JAMES SUCKLING taly’s great grape, barolo, has long been called the “king of wines and the wine of kings.” But the structured red still remains relatively undiscovered in most of Asia. “It’s still hard to convince most fine-wine lovers in Asia about Barolo, even though our region is very much like Burgundy with its mostly small vineyard holdings and Ifamily-owned wineries,” says Pio Boffa, the owner of Pio Cesare, one of the top names in Barolo. Boffa adds that most of the top wines are made in limited quantities – as little as a few hundred cases. Indeed, Barolo tastes like red Burgundy of Vosne-Romanée and Gevrey-Chambertin, in many ways. It has a lighter colour than considered two of the great wine towns in most other reds, a delicate and complex fruit the region; Barolo has its top villages as well, character, and bright and lively acidity. The including La Morra, Serralunga, Monforte d’Alba big difference is that the grape of Barolo, and Barolo itself. Furthermore, each village, Nebbiolo, is much more tannic compared to whether in Barolo or Burgundy, has its own top Burgundy’s pinot noir. Yet, better viticulture and vineyard sites. The French have codified this into winemaking in Barolo has produced reds with an appellation system, so grand crus such as La riper and softer tannins than in the past. Romanée in Vosne-Romanée and Chambertin in Paolo Damilano, whose family makes excellent Gevrey-Champertin are ranked among the best Barolos under its namesake, agrees.
