Cantate Cathedral Youth Choir Introduction Cantate is the Portsmouth Cathedral Youth Choir. Formed in 2006, this versatile and exciting choir opens the way for girls and teenage boys to add their voices to choral worship both in Portsmouth Cathedral and in concerts around the Anglican Diocese. Cantate has toured widely—most recently to the French Alps, Malta and Gozo, and Italy—and frequently sings concerts and services in the local area and further afield. Additional highlights have been Faure’s Requiem with City of London Symphony Orchestra under Stephen Layton and singing Evensong at Canterbury Cathedral. Cantate sings Evensong each Thursday at 6.00pm during term time, in addition to many events in various concert venues. They are involved in the Cathedral’s chorister outreach programme—Cathedral Sing—and also feature on the Cathedral’s recent CDs ’Sing to the Lord’ and ‘Plainsong: Echo of Angels’. The Choir has also performed in the Portsmouth Festivities and broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and Radio 4.
