After back-to-back home meets to kick off the outdoor season, the LSU track and field teams hit the road for the first time this spring as they travel to Austin, Texas, to compete in the 80th Clyde Littlefield OUTDOOR Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The four-day meet begins with the men’s decathlon and DATE MEET LOCATION women’s heptathlon on Wednesday, while it is set to conclude Saturday with the running of the men’s and women’s 4x400-meter relays. Sophomore Nickiesha Wilson will be the first LSU athlete to compete MARCH as she is slated to lineup in the preliminaries of the 400-meter hurdles on Thursday at 4:30 p.m., while 17 Louisiana Classic Lafayette, La. senior Isa Phillips follows at 5 p.m. in the men’s 400 hurdles. The teams will also compete in the 23-24 LSU Relays Baton Rouge, La. 4x800-meter relay on the first day of competition. LAST TIME OUT 25-2 World Championships Osaka, Japan The Tigers and Lady Tigers added 19 entries into the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships at the LSU Tiger Classic this past weekend as they have now combined to qualify a total of 32 athletes and LSU ON THE INTERNET four relay teams in 42 different events at the regional meet, which will be hosted by the University of Missouri at Walton Stadium in Columbia, Mo., from May 25-26. Junior Kelly Baptiste and sophomore Nickiesha Wilson highlighted the action at the Tiger Classic as each clocked the fastest time in the nation in their respective specialty events. Baptiste is now tied atop the national descending order list in the 200-meter dash after clocking a wind-legal time of 22.95 seconds in the event finals, while Wilson crossed the finish line in 56.99 in her collegiate debut in the 400-meter hurdles. Wilson now ranks No. 4 on the school’s all-time outdoor performance list for her effort. The Lady Tigers’ 4x100- meter relay team also qualified for the regional meet for the first time this season with a time of 43.73. LSU’S HISTORY AT THE TEXAS RELAYS REGIONAL QUALIFIERS LSU has enjoyed much success in the previous 79 years of one of the nation’s premier collegiate track meets as the men’s and women’s teams have combined to win 58 individual and 49 relay titles since MEN the meet’s inaugural season in 1925.
