Tulane University CANCELLED: and Tulane Orchestra to rock McAlister

For Immediate Release - Nov. 29th, 2011 Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Kansas symphony concerts scheduled on Dec 2nd in Lafayette, LA, and Dec. 3rd in New Orleans, LA have been cancelled. Plans are in motion to reschedule these concerts at a later date. For both shows, refunds are available at the point of purchase. Ticketmaster will automatically refund all credit cards, and you may contact them directly at 800-745-3000.

The Tulane University Orchestra is headed to the point of “know” return. The legendary rock band Kansas will perform with the orchestra in a special concert benefiting the Newcomb Department of Music at 8 p.m. on Dec. 3 in McAlister Auditorium.

A fixture of classic rock radio stations with hits such as “,” “Carry on My Wayward Son” and “,” Kansas is on an extensive collegiate tour to help raise money for college music programs.

Through the Tulane box office, a limited number of tickets is available for the performance with the Tulane Orchestra. Tickets at $40 each can be purchased by calling 504-865-5269 or by contacting Ticketmaster.

Maxim Samarov, conductor of the Tulane University Orchestra, said that the opportunity to play music with the rock band has been an enjoyable experience for him and students. They received sheet music from the band several weeks ago and rehearsals for the Dec. 3 concert are under way.

“In terms of preparation, there's not a whole lot of difference between this project and what we usually do — there are notes to be learned, tricky passages and rhythms to be mastered and so on,” said Samarov. “The style of this music is different from what we usually do, but then even within
