From: Brad Niemcek, Inc. 51 East 42nd Street New York, N.Y. 10017 (212) 867-1490 For: STEED INDUSTRIES, INC. BACKGROUND INFORMATION Itasca, Illinois 60143 4/23/73 CARL A. HAAS Carl A. Haas belongs to a rather exclusive club. Its members are those entrepreneurs in motor racing who can claim to actually making a living at doing something they love. Many aspire to "business" careers in motor racing. Still more love what they are doing. But relatively few make a living at it. Carl Haas is a leader among them. Haas is a 20-year veteran of successful race team management -- a businessman who knows what it takes to "win" in a most demanding business specialty and who does it year after year . at a profit, A German by birth, Carl Haas was an auto enthusiast at an early age. He began racing himself, as an amateur, in 1953. His cars visited race circuits from Nassau to California, and he did well. In 1966 he hung up his goggles and turned full attention to the race car importing business he had founded two years earlier as a part-time enterprise that quickly became a full-time occupation. His business acumen was evident early, in his choices of the right equipment to bring into North America for a growing competitor market, and in the proper method of making that equipment available to his customers. -more- CARL A. HAAS / — 2 He decided in 1961, for instance, that a new competition gearbox developed by a friend, Michael Hewland of England, would have wide application in the competition market here. -

Pit Signals OCTOBER 2018 Copy
PIT SIGNALS LATE BRAKING NEWS FOR VARAC VINTAGE RACERS -OCTOBER, 2018 - JEREMY SALE Five VARAC members made the trip to VSCDA’s Gra8an event this year. Doug Elcomb brought the Dreossi (above) and a Mini Marcos, Doug Durrell his Bobsy FV, Brian Thomas his Lotus 23, Mark Brown his Lotus 7, and Ted Michalos covered off everything with a Sprite and a Ferrari… In this issue; Lime Rock, Shannonville, Road America, Indian Summer Trophy Races, CelebraQon, plus…Richard Navin wins Collier Cup! Jim Biscoe and Paddy Hopkirk, right. And, wait for it… EXciQng New Time Brackets! (Yawn.) VARAC Time Brackets! StarQng with the 2019 racing season, I’d like to create a single list of Qme brackets for all VARAC compeQtors. Currently we have 3 separate systems: Classic, which uses H, E, F, G, and V; Vintage Historic which uses VH1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6; and Formula Classic which uses I, K and L. I am proposing we use the following: A – under 1.31 at CTMP (formerly CL H and VH1) 1 – 1.31 and slower (formerly CL E and VH1) 2 – 1.35 and slower (formerly CL F and VH1) 3 – 1.40 and slower (formerly CL G and VH2 and FC K) 4 – 1.45 and slower (formerly VH3 and FC I) 5 – 1.50 and slower (formerly VH4) 6 – 1.55 and slower (formerly VH5) Cars would display a single decal that includes the VARAC logo, their class and their bracket. For eXample, a Classic car that runs 1.37s at CTMP would be CL 2, a Vintage Historic car that turns 1.43s would be VH 3, and a Formula Classic car that turns 1.52s would be FC 5. -

1962 Lotus 24 BRM Chassis No. 946
! 1962 Lotus 24 BRM Chassis No. 946 • Immaculately presented following an exquisite restoration by marque expert Peter Denty Racing. Limited mileage has been accumulated since, with notable outings in the Glover Trophy at the last three editions of the Goodwood Revival. • Following a convincing Pole position at Brands Hatch this year with the HGPCA, this 1,500cc BRM V8 powered Lotus 24 led away from the start in the recent Glover Trophy race and featured strongly before finishing 3rd against stiff competition. • With 2015 FIA HTPs, this Lotus 24 will make an excellent entry to one of the most emotive grids in historic motorsport, racing on some of the best circuits across Europe. By 1962, Lotus had made a strong name for themselves in the world of Formula 1, and were becoming a force to be reckoned with. This came about with Colin Chapman’s Lotus 18 of 1960, which marked a change in formula car design. The low and sleek 18 was the first Lotus to feature a mid mounted engine instead of the traditional front mounted layout as in the Lotus 16 which went before, and subsequently gains were found in chassis design, weight and stiffness. Initially the new Lotus 18 ran with a 2,497cc Coventry Climax FPF four cylinder engine and the so called ‘Lotus Queerbox’ magnesium cased sequential transaxle which further contributed to the weight advantage that the Lotus 18 held. Success was yielded in its debut season with two World Championship victories for Rob Walker Racing and Stirling Moss. T. + 44 (0)1285 831 488 E. -
