The end of an era, and a start of a new one!

March of 2013 is a crucial month for us at Top Performance and a mini jubilee too! First of all, it marks the eighth anniversary of our magazine and it also happens to be our last printed issue, as we make the switch to digital format. Yes, the time has finally come, and the April issue be making history as our first digital magazine.

As much as we are going to miss our first baby, the printed version, we're looking to the future and are so excited about going digital. The new format will broaden our reach, multiply our readership and give us the flexibility we never had with traditional media. Best of all, the magazine will be offered at no cost, making it accessible to everyone here in the United Arab Emirates, the Middle East and beyond.

Our man Farook, the dude who also owns the red Supra featured in our first issue, is back with a bang, this time with an even meaner ride - a 1,117 horsepower Skyline GT-R R33! He was lucky enough to come across both the cars in one showroom, and guess what? He bought both of them. Those of you following our magazine might remember Top Performance featuring the mad turbocharged and intercooled sleeper Cherokee SRT8 back in 2007. Built and tuned by Extreme Performance, the undisputed kings of anything HEMI, the car constituted a fabulously streetable and meek-looking undercover monster, a total sleeper on the surface and a fire-breathing machine under- neath. Four years in the works and things are starting to get a little extreme, what else.

Let’s step back and look at the development of this project, masterminded and initiated by Abdulla Al Za’abi, a.k.a. the King of HEMI in this part of the world. At the time, Extreme Performance already had built a reputation as a leader in tuning the SRT8 engines, fitting them into Wranglers and then they flexed their muscle again on the HEMI-powered Cherokee that got fitted with the first turbo kit on this platform, another first for the Middle East. With a tightly packed engine bay and no sufficient space for the custom head- ers and turbo, Abdulla decided to place the ball-bearing Garrett T4 right before the rear axle. Intended for experienced track riders, the course was hosted at the Yas Marina facility from 24-25 February, 2013 and offered the unique opportunity of riding the famous Formula 1 venue during the evening, under the circuit’s impressive floodlight system.
