MUDTURTLE GMEATRICAL, INC. 8UILDING COMMUNITY GIFIROUGH GTH-E ORTS May 24" 2021 Fillmore Successor Agency Board of Directors: Ventura County Oversight Board: Mark Austin - Mayor David El Fattal, Chair of the Board Diane McCall - Mayor Pro Tern Scott Powers, Vice Chair of the Board Lynn Edmonds - City Council Member Dannielle Brook An Larson - City Council Member Mike Mishler Christina Villaserior - City Council John Griffin Member Dear board members, Isn't an old town theater groovy?! It's almost always a central highlight for a community! In spite of a global pandemic that shuttered so many community venues, Mudturtle Theatrical Inc., a nonprofit created specifically to save the Fillmore Town Theatre, wants to build community through the arts by restoring this historic venue. Why should Mudturtle Theatrical, Inc. be chosen to purchase the Fillmore Town Theatre? We: • will keep the theater locally owned and operated • have a track record of working with nonprofits including community theater and community colleges (through our corporate video arm, Mudturtle Media, LLC) • have reach to venue centric talent, diverse entertainment, and community-driven theater • are dedicated to supporting local needs as members of the Rotary Club and Fillmore Association of Businesses The city closed the theater doors a decade ago Thankfully, they didn't have the heart to just tear it down. It's important to note that the current civic leadership appreciates the value of what's possible. To create a standard of excellence and attract quality talent, the theater decor must be renovated and the structure be brought up to current state and local government codes. We estimate the cost to be $1.2 million. The land value is estimated at $90,000. We are offering $100,000. Aside from the sentimental value, the building has little to be desired for a regular commercial developer. It's a very specific structure suited to a singular purpose. We will create a venue that builds community through the arts for generations to come. The attached RFP summarizes our plan and experienced personnel. Mudturtle Theatrical is excited to share our passion for the arts in the community of Fillmore through the historic Fillmore Town Theatre. We look forward to speaking with you further. The Fillmore Town Theatre has seen it all on a 105 year rollercoaster of success and failure. Rising from the rubble after the devastating 1934 Northridge earthquake, the theater eventually fell into disrepair and insolvency over the last 10 years, continuing the roller coaster effect. Hi! I'm Sean McCulley, a very new resident to Fillmore. I moved here for the small town Americana feel that Fillmore epitomizes. The Fillmore Town Theatre is very much a part of that community feel and, when I was told it was going to be sold to be turned into apartments, I knew I needed to do something to bring the building back to its original purpose: Arts for th.e community. So, I recently formed Mudturtle Theatrical, Inc, a nonprofit organization, to take the Fillmore Town Theatre off the rollercoaster and return it to a place of prominence for community engagement. The residents of Fillmore deserve a long term team and plan for the theater. Mudturtle Theatrical is the source for that proposition. Here is the strategy. 131 II 1)1`( ( ( )`1`11 ',•1 I 1 II VOL ( I 1111 \ 1 Li Current Condition The repairs and upgrades necessary to breathe life back into the theater are extensive. Water damage, mold, and sewage have all taken their toll. After the earthquake, the structure of the theater was upgraded and repaired to mid-1990's standards. So while the bones of the theater are solid, the rest of the building and amenities need rehabilitation. The list of needs is pervasive in every section of the theater from the marquee to the lobby to auditorium to the basement with bathrooms, office space and storage in between. offiji All photos by Mudturde Media.
