    LE ORIGINI I Queen trovano le loro radici nelgli Smile, gruppo rock inglese formatosi nel 1968 e composto dal chitarrista Brian May, dal bassista Tim Staffell, e dal batterista Roger Meddows-Taylor. Nel 1970 Tim Staffell decide di uscire dalla band e ciò permette al cantante e pianista Freddie Mercury di fare il suo ingresso nel gruppo e di cambiare definitivamente il nome da Smile in Queen. Nel 1971, dopo aver cambiato diversi bassisti la band decide di assumere definitivamente John Deacon, completando così la formazione storica qui sotto riportata: Freddie Mercury, pseudonimo di Farrokh Bulsara (Stone Town, 5 settembre 1946 – Londra, 24 novembre 1991) Brian Harold May (Feltham, 19 luglio 1947) Roger Meddows-Taylor (Dersingham, 26 luglio 1949) John Richard Deacon (Leicester, 19 agosto 1951) ANNI ‘70 Nel 1973, i Queen pubblicano il loro primo album, dall'omonimo titolo. Solo a distanza di anni dalla sua pubblicazione, l’album è stato rivalutato e considerato un ottimo album d'esordio. Nel 1974 (inizio anno), vede la luce Queen II, secondo album diviso in due "Lato Bianco" e "Lato Nero", che rappresenta secondo la critica l'eterna lotta tra il bene ed il male. Il 1974 (fine anno), pubblicano anche Sheer Heart Attack, terzo album in studio composto da una notevole varietà di stili musicali. Il 1975 è stato l'anno dell'affermazione. Dopo molto tempo passato in sala di registrazione, in ben sei studi di produzione, incidono l'album A Night at the Opera, l'album più costoso dell'epoca.
