They expect Alex’s best friend Nick (Paul Fitzgerald), newly separated from his wife, to show up at the cabin with his girlfriend Lola. Alex and Nick’s childhood friend Don (Dominic Fumasa) is also set to arrive with his wife-of-many-years Lynn (Jessica Hecht), as are Alice’s pregnant friend Eve (Dagmara Dominczyk) and her husband Steven (Corey Stoll) Any thoughts of a perfect weekend are quickly thrown out the window as Nick arrives with only a cooler of meat and the news that he and Lola have recently called it quits. Don and Lynn show up a few minutes later deep in an argument. Finally, Eve and Steven make it to the cabin with a surprise guest in tow—Eve’s friend Helena, who was a bridesmaid with Alice at Eve’s wedding. With tensions running high at the cabin, Alex tries to approach the young and beautiful Helena. -

Yet that is what he is on the way to do when we meet him and his new wife Alice (Melanie Lynskey). As the clock ticks away another year and a surprise guest, the very beautiful and very young Helena (Gillian Jacobs) arrives, facades begin to buckle. 3 Director’s Statement HELENA FROM THE WEDDING revolves around one dark night of the soul of Alex Javal, a man who is so distracted looking back that he doesn’t see what is right in front of him. The film is my attempt to capture the feeling between the fading of youth and the beginning of the rest of life, and one thing New Year’s Eve always offers: a look back across the plains of time before we move forward into the future. -

Shopping With...Lee Tergesen
Shopping With...Lee Tergesen By Lauren David Peden December 16, 2004 - New York Stalking around the rustic Georgia stage set at the Roundabout's Laura Pels Theatre in the comedic play "The Foreigner" wearing torn jeans, a sleeveless plaid button-down, well-worn engineer boots, AC/DC belt buckle and multiple (faux) tattoos on his well-toned biceps, actor Lee Tergesen is the personification of Redneck (read: racist) menace. Straight-backed and self-righteous, Tergesen's character, Owen Musser, spends much of his time plotting a Klan takeover of the fishing lodge owned by aptly-named widow Betty Meeks (played by legendary actress Frances Sternhagen) and populated by a motley assortment of guests, including British tourist Charlie Baker (Matthew Broderick). In person, Tergesen is neither straight-backed nor self-righteous, and his engagingly goofy sense of humor is one you laugh with, not at (unlike his humorless character, who is the target of many well-timed jokes). "He's an idiot. He's a fool," Tergesen opined when we caught up with him at Tekserve, his favorite Manhattan store (119 W. 23rd Street; 212-463-9280; www.tekserve.com). "The guy has to think he's smart but at the same time be a little paranoid, and there are times when it's a little uncomfortable. But it's fun to do, and at the end when I totally get foiled, it's great to go down in flames." While we waited for FWD's photographer to arrive, Tergesen talked about the joys of performing in a straight-ahead comedy, something he hasn't done much of since his "Wayne's World" days. -
