Ouch. This had to sting. Jesus spoke these shocking words ing at 10:30 Mass and Brunch not just to anybody. He spoke them to "the chief priests and elders of the people." The ones who were professional law-keepers. The ones who were religious leaders and teachers. The ones who were, in truth, self-righteous, pompous, and presumptuous. Jesus must have November 11th—Holiday Bazaar known how offensive it would be to his audience to share this unpleasant fact. But he said it (9am-5:30pm) Parish Hall anyway because he knew they needed to hear it. But the point wasn't to offend. The point was to amend. Jesus was urging them to change their lives for the better, to come to God with a humble, contrite heart, seeking forgiveness COORDINATORS OF MINISTRIES and mercy. These unrepentant upper-crust leaders were plagued by an inability to see their own sins. They were far too focused on identifying where others were going wrong. And, as Coordinators of Youth Ministry— was his style, Jesus' preaching was adapted according to his audience. These guys needed to Pat Fellers and Holly Safranski get knocked out of their complacency. So Jesus did what he had to do. Coordinators of Lectors— It's important to realize, by the way, that the reason tax collectors and prostitutes were lead- Dina Marie Hale & Rob Hale ing the line to heaven wasn't because of their sins. It was because of their sorrow. The peo- Coordinators of EEM— ple Jesus had in mind when he mentioned this--like Zacchaeus and Mary Magdalene per- Terry Lewis & Mary Shepard haps--had repented from their sinful behavior and begun anew. This is why he praises them. Coordinators of Altar Servers— And this is what the Lord longs to see everyone doing, including us. Either we need to Chris Bushman acknowledge and repent of our sins, or we are placing ourselves in the same category as the Coordinator of Sacristans— pharisaical priests and elders. And that's definitely not the place to be. Sunday School—RCIC—Classes are held each Sunday from 9:15—10:15 am in the Conference Room in the Parish Hall for faith formation of children ages 5 through 5th Grade. Children’s Liturgy—Children’s Liturgy of the Word is an age-appropriate Liturgy of the Word offered for kids from 4-7 at the 10:30 Mass. *Registration forms for 2017-18 are available in the back of church. All children are welcome and encouraged to attend. Just before the Liturgy of the Word begins for the assembly, these children are invited to go with the weekly leaders from the church to the Parish Hall. During this special time, the volunteer teachers lead the children through prayers, songs and read- ings that are simplified for children.
