Division (1) - Interpretation

1. (1) In this regulation "antlerless animal" means a female or young animal of the deer family bearing no visible bony antlers, and for the purposes of this definition the small skin or hair covered protuberances on male fawns and calves are not antlers; "bag limit" means the maximum number of a species of wildlife or a type of wildlife that a person may take or kill (a) in the case of mammals, in one licence year, (b) in the case of birds, in one day; "bait" means any thing, including meat, cereal, cultivated crops, a restrained animal or any manufactured product or material, that may attract wildlife, but does not include a decoy; "buck" or "bull" means a male of the deer family bearing visible bony antlers; "calf" in reference to a moose, elk or caribou means one that is less than 12 months of age; "compound crossbow" means a crossbow on which the bow string passes through a series of pulleys; "decoy" means a material or manufactured product that simulates the appearance or has the form of wildlife; "full curl bighorn ram mountain sheep" means any bighorn ram (male) mountain sheep that has attained the age of 8 years as determined by horn annuli, or whose horn tip, when viewed from the side along the horizontal plane and at right angles to the sagittal plane of the skull, extends upwards beyond a straight line drawn between the ventralmost portion of the eye-socket retained with the skull and the ventral posteriormost portion of the base of the horn; "full curl thinhorn ram mountain sheep" means any thinhorn ram (male) mountain sheep that has attained the age of 8 years as determined by yearly horn growth annuli or whose horn tip, when viewed from the side at right angles to the sagittal plan of the skull, extends upward beyond the dorsal surfaces of the suture joining the left and right nasal bones; "horizontal plane" means the surface intersecting the ventral posteriormost portion of the base of the left and right horns, the ventral portion of the most complete eye-socket retained with the skull and that is at right angles to the sagittal plane; "lateral plane" means the surface intersecting the ventral anteriormost portion of the most complete eye-socket retained with the skull and that is at right angles to the sagittal and horizontal planes; "licence year" means the period April 1 to March 31 next following; "management unit" or "M.U." means an area designated as a management unit by B.C. Reg. 415/75; "plane" means a surface such that the straight line that joins any 2 of its points lies wholly in that surface; "power boat" means a boat, canoe or yacht powered by electric, gasoline, oil, steam or other mechanical means, but does not include a boat powered by oars nor a boat with an outboard motor provided the motor is tilted or otherwise disengaged so as not to be ready for immediate use; "possession limit" means the maximum number of a species or type of wildlife which a person may have in his possession while hunting or returning from hunting; -2- "sagittal plane" means the surface by which the skull is divided equally into left and right sides; "snowmobile" means a vehicle weighing not more than 1 000 pounds, designed primarily for travel on snow or ice, having one or more steering skis and self-propelled by one or more endless belts driven in contact with the ground; "spike buck" means a male deer having antlers that are composed of a main beam from which there are no bony projections; "three quarter curl bighorn ram mountain sheep" means any bighorn ram (male) mountain sheep that has attained the age of 6 years as determined by horn annuli, or whose horn tip, when viewed from the side along the horizontal plane and at right angles to the sagittal plane of the skull, extends beyond a straight line drawn vertically from the ventral anteriormost portion of the eye-socket retained with the skull and which is at right angles to a line drawn between the ventral anteriormost portion of the eye socket retained with the skull and the ventral posteriormost portion of the base of the horn. (2) For the purposes of the Wildlife Act and this regulation, "game bird" includes a migratory game bird.

2. All dates and all references to descriptions by means of serial numbers in this regulation are inclusive, unless otherwise indicated.

3. For the purpose of this regulation, the Province of is divided into the following regions: (a) Region 1 - Island, comprised of Management Units 1-1 to 1-15 (including a part of the mainland coast in the vicinity of Knight and Seymour Inlets); (b) Region 2 - , comprised of Management Units 2-1 to 2-15; (c) Region 3 - Thompson-Nicola, comprised of Management Units 3-12 to 3-20 and 3-26 to 3-46; (d) Region 4 - Kootenay, comprised of Management Units 4-1 to 4-9 and 4-14 to 4-40; (e) Region 5 - Cariboo, comprised of Management Units 5-1 to 5-16; (f) Region 6 - Skeena, comprised of Management Units 6-1 to 6-29 including the Queen Charlotte Islands; (g) Region 7 - Omineca-Peace, comprised of Management Units 7-1 to 7-56; (h) Region 8 - Okanagan, comprised of Management Units 8-1 to 8-15 and 8-21 to 8-26.

Division (2) - Open Seasons

4. The open seasons for the hunting of each species and type of game animal, subject to section 6, are those set forth in Parts 1 and 2 of each schedule.

5. An open season declared by this regulation shall cease to be in effect in any area (a) while the area is subject to a closure order issued by the Forest Service of the Ministry of Forests, or (b) if hunting is prohibited by an order of the Minister of Environment made under section 41 of the Wildlife Act. -3- 6. Where an open season is marked in Part 1 of a schedule by a cross, the restrictions set out in Part 2 of that schedule apply.

Division (3) - Bag and Possession Limits

7. Where a bag limit is marked in Part 1 of a schedule by a dagger, the restrictions set out in Part 3 of that schedule apply.

8. The abbreviation "NBL" in Part 1 of each schedule means no bag limit".

9. (1) An entry such as "2(1)" in Part 1 of a schedule means, in the case of ungulates, that the bag limit is 2 animals of that species in the aggregate, one of which may be antlerless. (2) An entry such as "10(20)" in Part 1 of a schedule means, in the case of game birds, that the bag limit is 10 birds a day, while the possession limit is 20.

10. Subject to section 11 (2), a person commits an offence where he exceeds the bag limit or possession limit for an area as set out in Part 1 or Part 3 of each schedule.

11. (1) Subject to exceptions for areas noted in Parts 1 and 3 of each schedule, a person commits an offence where he exceeds the Provincial bag limit for a species or type of animal as follows: (a) 2 deer of which only one may be an antlerless deer; (b) 2 black bear; (c) 2 cougar; (d) 3 wolves; (e) one big game animal of a species other than those referred to in paragraphs (a) to (d); (f) one wolverine; (g) one lynx; (h) 5 bobcat. (2) Where a bag limit in an area is higher than the Provincial bag limit for a species or type of animal, a person commits an offence where he kills more than the number of animals permitted by the higher bag limit less the number of animals of that species or type taken by him anywhere else in the Province.

12. (1) A person commits an offence where (a) he ;las in his possession, while hunting or returning from a hunt, game birds in excess of 3 times the daily bag limit, (b) he kills more than 5 geese in one day, or (c) he has in his possession more than 10 geese while hunting or returning from hunting.

13. There is no open season for 2 year old or younger grizzly bear or any grizzly bear accompanying it. -4-

Division (4) - Shooting Hours

14. (1) Subject to exceptions noted in subsection (2), a person commits an offence where he hunts from one hour after sunset to one hour before sunrise. (2) A person commits an offence where he hunts (a) pheasants in M.U.'s 2-4 and 2-8 from 1/2 hour after sunset to 1/2 hour before sunrise; (b) pheasants in M.U.'s 8-1 to 8-4, 8-7 to 8-12, 8-14, 8-15, 8-21 to 8-26, 3-12 to 3-15, 3-17 to 3-20, 3-26 to 3-31 and 3-34 to 3-37, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.; (c) Hungarian partridge in M.U.'s 8-1 to 8-4, 8-7 to 8-10, 8-22 and 8-26 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.; (d) Chukar partridge in M.U.'s 8-1 to 8-4 and 8-7 to 8-9 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.; (e) quail in M.U.'s 8-1 to 8-4, 8-7 to 8-11, 8-21 and 8-22 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.; (f) migratory game birds between 1/2 hour after sunset and 1/2 hour before sunrise.

Division (5) - Possession of Carcass

15. (1) For the purpose of section 37 of the Act, a person who possesses the carcass or part of the carcass of an elk, moose, mule (black-tailed) deer, white-tailed deer or fallow deer shall leave attached to the carcass or to the part of the carcass, (a) to identify the species, a readily identifiable part of the hide that is not less than 6 cm2, (b) to identify the sex of a male, either a testicle, part of the penis or a portion of the head with the antlers attached, and (c) to identify the sex of a female, either a portion of the udder or teats or that portion of the head which in males normally bears the antlers. (2) For the purpose of section 37 of the Act, a person who possesses the carcass or part of the carcass of a caribou or a grizzly bear shall leave attached to the carcass or to the part of the carcass, (a) to identify the species, a readily identifiable part of the hide that is not less than 6 cm2, (b) to identify the sex of a male, either a testicle or part of the penis, and (c) to identify the sex of a female, a portion of the udder or teats. (3) For the purpose of section 37 of the Act, a person who possesses only the hide or part of the hide of an elk, moose, mule (black-tailed) deer, white-tailed deer, fallow deer, caribou and grizzly bear shall leave attached to the hide or to the part of the hide (a) in the case of males, a testicle or part of the penis, and (b) in the case of females, a portion of the udder or teats. (4) For the purpose of section 37 of the Act, a person who possesses the carcass of a game bird shall leave one wing and its plumage attached to the carcass. -5-

Division (6) - Compulsory Reporting

16. (1) Subject to subsections (2), (3) and (4), a person commits an offence where he takes or kills (a) in any M.U. (i) a caribou, (ii) a cougar, (iii) a grizzly bear, (iv) a mountain goat, or (v) a mountain sheep, or (b) in M.U.'s 1-1 to 1-13 and in Region 4, a wolf, unless within 10 days after the date of the kill, or before exporting it from the Province, whichever first occurs, he submits the carcass to an officer for inspection and measurement. (2) A person does not commit an offence under subsection (1) where (a) with the written approval of an officer, he submits a big game animal for inspection within 10 days after the last day of the hunt, or (b) he uses the services of a licensed guide to kill a caribou, grizzly bear, mountain goat or mountain sheep, and submits that big game animal for inspection within 10 days after the last day of the continuous season in which the big game animal was killed. (3) In this section "submit" means, in the case of (a) grizzly bear or cougar, the submitting of the skull with the lower jaw intact, (b) Dalli s, Stone's, California and Rocky Mountain sheep, the submitting of the portion of the skull that includes the nasal bones, eye socket, horns and the associated connective bone structure, (c) mountain goat, the submitting of the horns and the lower jaw, (d) caribou, the submitting of the lower jaw, (e) caribou killed in M.U.'s 5-12 and 5-15, the submitting of the lower jaw and antlers, (f) wolf killed in M.U.'s 1-1 to 1-13, the submitting of the skull including the lower jaw, (g) wolf killed in Region 4, the submitting of the skull including the lower jaw, and a portion of the hide that bears (i) in the case of males, either a testicle or part of the penis, and (ii) in the case of females, a portion of the udder or teats, and (h) mountain sheep, the submitting of its horns for the insertion of an aluminum identification tag by an officer. (4) A person who kills (a) in any M.U. (i) a caribou, (ii) a cougar, (iii) a grizzly bear, (iv) a mountain goat, or (v) a mountain sheep, or (b) in M.U.'s 1-1 to 1-13 or Region 4, a wolf, commits an offence where, on request of an officer, he fails to inform the officer of the place and date of kill and the number of days the licensee hunted before the kill. -6-

Division (7) - Hunting Methods

17. A person commits an offence where he hunts (a) with a rifle using (i) a full metal jacketed non-expanding bullet, or (ii) a tracer, incendiary, or explosive bullet, (b) big game with a rifle using a rimfire cartridge, (c) with a shotgun using a tracer or incendiary shot shell, (d) mountian sheep, mountain goat, elk, moose, caribou, bison or grizzly bear with a shotgun, (e) deer, black bear, cougar, coyote, or wolf with a shotgun (i) less than 20 gauge, or (ii) using a shot shell loaded with shot smaller than the shot size "SG", (f) game birds, other than grouse and ptarmigan, with a rifle, (g) small game, game birds, mule (black-tailed) deer, white-tailed deer or fallow deer with a crossbow (except a compound crossbow) having a pull of less than 55 kg, (h) big game, other than deer, with a crossbow (except a compound crossbow) (i) having a pull of less than 68 kg, or (ii) having a bolt with a broadhead less than 2.22 cm at the widest point, (i) with a compound crossbow having a pull of less than 45 kg, (j) with a crossbow having a bolt weighing less than 16.2 g, (k) with a bow having a pull of less than 18 kg within the archer's draw length, (1) big game with a bow using an arrow with a broadhead less than 2.2 cm at the widest point, (m) bear, by placing bait, (n) migratory game birds by using a power boat, unless the boat is beached, resting at anchor or fastened within or tied immediately alongside of a fixed hunting blind, (o) migratory game birds using (i) a rifle or shotgun loaded with a single projectile, (ii) any weapon other than a bow and arrow or a shotgun not larger than number 10 gauge, or (iii) more than one shotgun unless each shotgun in excess of one is disassembled or unloaded and encased.

18. (1) A person commits an offence where he (a) retrieves a dead or injured game animal by the use of a power boat while that person is in possession of a loaded firearm, (b) while hunting, discharges a firearm from a vehicle to which a draught animal is attached, (c) hunts migratory game birds within 402 m of a baited area, where the bait has been deposited solely to attract migratory game birds, (d) continues to hunt a species of wildlife on a day on which he has taken his daily or seasonal bag limit of that species of wildlife, (e) uses a vehicle to which a draught animal is attached to disturb game for the purposes of driving the game towards another hunter, or (f) uses live birds as decoys or recorded bird calls to hunt game birds. -7-

(2) A person does not commit an offence under section 80 of the Wildlife Act where he causes or allows a dog to pursue (a) racoon, black bear or cougar, or (b) mule (black-tailed) deer, white-tailed deer or fallow deer if the dog is on a leash and under the direct control of the person, provided the game is being pursued in an area in which and at a time at which an open season exists for that game and also provided the person holds a valid hunting licence and is otherwise conforming with the requirements of the Act and regulations. (3) A person does not commit an offence under section 80 of the Wildlife Act where he causes or allows a dog to pursue game birds between the dates August 1 to April 30 provided the dog is under supervision of the person.

Division (8) - Hunting Restrictions in Parks

19. Deer

1. (1) Except as permitted under the Limited Entry Hunting Regula- tion, B.C. Reg. 111/84, there is no open season on antlerless mule (black-tailed) deer in the portion of M.U. 1-5 that is the watershed of the Nanaimo River upstream of its confluence with the south fork of the Nanaimo River. (2) Except as permitted under the Limited Entry Hunting Regulation, B.C.Reg. 111/84, a person commits an offence where he hunts, takes or kills a mule (black-tailed) deer buck in (a) the portion of M.U. 1-5 that is the watershed of the south fork of the Nanaimo River, and (b) M.U.'s 1-1 to 1-15 between November 26 and December 9 unless the buck has at least 2 tines (points) not less than 8 cm long on one antler. (3) For the purpose of section 37 of the Act, a person who kills a mule (black-tailed) deer buck in the portion of M.U. 1-5 that is the watershed of the south fork of the Nanaimo River shall leave the head and antlers attached to the carcass. (4) A person commits an offence where he kills a mule (black-tailed) deer buck in M.U.'s 1-1 to 1-15 during the period November 26 to December 9 and does not, while returning from hunting, keep the antlers of the deer and the species licence under which the deer was killed together and available for inspection by an officer. (5) There is no open season on antlerless mule (black-tailed) deer in the portion of M.U. 1-10 that is the watershed of the White River. (6) In that portion of M.U. 1-6 bounded on the north by the southern boundary of the District of Campbell River, on the west by the eastern boundary of the British Columbia Hydro and Power Authority 138 KV Trans- mission line right of way, on the south by the southeastern boundary of the Comox Strathcona Regional District and on the east by the mean high water mark on the Strait of Georgia and on Denman and Hornby Islands, the open season for antlerless mule (black-tailed) deer is from November 1 to November 15.

Mountain Goat

2. There is no open season on mountain goat in that portion of M.U. 1-15 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the southwest corner of District Lot 25, Coast-Range 2 Land District, thence northwesterly along the height of land to Mt. Blair; thence northwesterly along the height of land separating the drainages of the Slim River from the Klinaklini River to the boundary of M.U. 1-15; thence northerly, easterly and southerly along the boundary of M.U. 1-15 to a point due east of Mt. Rodell; thence due west to Mt. Rodell; thence northerly and westerly along the height of land to Mt. Costello; thence due west to Knight Inlet; thence in a straight line northwesterly to the point of commencement". -13-

Wolf

3. A person commits an offence where he kills a wolf in M.U.'s 1-1 to 1-13 unless he submits, within 10 days of the kill, the skull (including the lower jaw) of the animal to an officer in Region 1.

Archery seasons 4. (1) The open season for hunting with a bow only for (a) fallow deer bucks, mule (black-tailed) deer bucks and black bear in M.U.'s 1-1 to 1-15, is August 25 to September 7, and (b) blue, spruce (Franklin) and ruffed grouse in M.U.'s 1-1 to 1-15 is from August 25 to August 31. (2) The open seasons for hunting with a bow only listed in subsection (1) do not apply to that portion of M.U. 1-1 comprised of the Gulf Islands other than Sidney Island and that portion of M.U. 1-5 being the watershed of the south fork of the Nanaimo River.

Sydney Spit Marine Park

5. There is no open season on wildlife except ducks, coots, cot on snipe, snow geese, ross' geese, Canada geese and white-fronted geese in that portion of M.U. 1-1 within the exterior boundaries of Sidney Spit Marine Park.

Falconry

6. A person entitled to hunt game during a bow only season in Region 1 may exercise the right to hunt during that period with a falcon.

Pursuit only

7. (1) The pursuit only season for cougar in M.U.'s 1-1 to 1-7 is from March 1 to April 30. (2) A person commits an offence where he shoots at, takes, possesses or kills a cougar during the pursuit only season described in subsection (1).

Hunting methods

8. A person commits an offence where he hunts (a) with a rifle in M.U. 1-1, other than on Valdez Island or Sidney Island, (b) with a rifle or shotgun using a single projectile in (i) that portion of M.U. 1-2 in the vicinity of Sooke that is contained within the following described boundaries: commencing at the intersection of Sooke Road (Highway 14) and Kangaroo Road; thence easter- ly along the south side of Kangaroo Road to Rocky Point Road; thence southwesterly along the west side of Rocky Point Road to its intersection with -14-

East Sooke Road; thence westerly, southwesterly, westerly and northwesterly along the north side of East Sooke Road to its intersection with Gillespie Road; thence generally north along the east side of Gillespie Road to Roche Cove, thence easterly, northerly and westerly along the high water mark in Roche Cove to Gillespie Road; thence northerly along the east side of Gillespie Road to Sooke Road (Highway 14); thence easterly along the south side of Sooke Road to point of commencement, and exclud- ing Matheson Lake Park, (ii) that portion of M.U. 1-6 bounded on the north by the southern boundary of the District of Campbell River, on the west by the eastern boundary of the British Columbia Hydro and Power Authority 138 kv transmission line right of way, on the south by the southeastern boundary of the Comox-Strathcona Regional District, and on the east by the mean high water mark on the Strait of Georgia and shall include Denman and Hornby Islands, unless that person is hunting elk under the authority of a limited entry hunting authorization, or (iii) the following Provincial parks: Mount Maxwell Park (M.U. 1-1) or Sidney Spit Marine Park (M.U. 1-1), Or (c) with a rifle in the following Provincial parks or recreation areas: Gibson Marine Park (M.U. 1-8), Octopus Islands Marine Park (M.U. 1-15), Octopus Islands Recreation Area (M.U. 1-15), Sandy Island Park (M.U. 1-6), Thurston Bay Marine Park (M.U. 1-15).

Grizzly bear

9. There is no open season for grizzly bear in that portion of M.U. 1-15 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the main bridge crossing on the Klinalklini River and proceeding southwesterly in a straight line to the summit of Mount Blair; thence proceeding southerly in a straight line to the summit of Swampfly Peak; thence proceeding easterly in a straight line to the summit of Costello Peak; thence proceeding northerly in a straight line to the summit of Village Cone; thence proceeding northwesterly in a straight line to the point of commencement". -15-

(2)A person commits an offence where he hunts under subsection (1) unless he uses a long bow. (3)On South Thormanby Island and Gambier Island in M.U. 2-5, the open season for antlered mule (black-tailed) deer is from September 8 to December 9 and for antlerless mule (black-tailed) deer is from November 3 to November 25.

Mountain Goat

2. (1) There is no open season on mountain goat in that portion of M.U. 2-12 known as Goat Island. (2)There is no open season on mountain goat in that portion of M.U. 2-8 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the mouth of the Stawamus River; thence southerly along Howe Sound to the northerly boundary of the West Vancouver District Municipality; thence easterly along the said boundary to the height of land separating the drainage of Howe Sound and the Capilano River; thence northerly along the said height of land to the point of commencement". (3)There is no open season on mountain goat in that portion of M.U. 2-6 being the watershed of Ashlu Creek. (4)There is no open season on mountain goat in that portion of M.U. 2-6 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the confluence of Ashlu Creek and the Squamish River; thence northerly along the Squamish River to the height of land being the boundary of M.U. 2-6; thence southwesterly and southerly along the M.U. boundary to the confluence of the Cheakamus River and the Squamish River; thence northerly along the Squamish River to the point of commencement". (5)There is no open season on mountain goat in that portion of M.U. 2-8 contained within the following described boundaries: (a) "commencing at the mouth of the ; thence southerly along to the eastern boundary of the Mount Judge Howay Recreation Area; thence northerly and northwesterly along said boundary to the northeasterly boundary of Golden Ears Park; thence northwesterly along said boundary to the west fork of the Stave River, at a point where it leaves Golden Ears Park; thence southeasterly along the mid line of said river to the point of commencement", and (b) within the Mount Judge Howay Recreation Area. -19-

(6)There is no open season for mountain goat in that portion of M.U. 2-12 drained by the Lois River. The closure shall extend from the right bank of the Lois River at the outlet of said river to Khartoum Lake east to the height of land separating the watershed of Lois River and Hotham Sound; thence northerly along the height of land separating the watershed of Lois River and Hotham Sound and Jervis Inlet; thence southeasterly and southerly along the height of land separating the watersheds of Lois River and Freda Creek; thence southerly along the height of land separating the watersheds of Lois River and Walt Creek; thence easterly along the height of land separating the drainages of Lois River and small unnamed creeks flowing directly into Khartoum Lake, to the point of commencement. (7)There is no open season for mountain goat in that portion of M.U. 2-9 drained by streams flowing into Harrison Lake or the Harrison River between Tipella Creek and the Chehalis River.

Pheasant

3. There is no open season on pheasant in (1) that portion of M.U. 2-4 lying east of the Corporation of the Township of Langley, or (2) that portion of M.U. 2-8 lying east of the Corporation of the District of Maple Ridge.

Special weapons

4. (1) The special weapons open season for antlered mule (black-tailed) deer, black bear and blue, spruce (Franklin) and ruffed grouse in M.U. 2-3 is from September 1 to September 7. (2) A person commits an offence where he hunts under subsection (1) unless he uses a bow or a muzzle loading weapon.

Hunting methods 5. (1) A person commits an offence where he hunts with a rifle in that portion of M.U. 2-5 known as Keats Island. (2) A person commits an offence where he (a) sets out more than one flock or set of brant decoys or set out a flock or set of brant decoys that exceed 50 in number, (b) places a flock or set of brant decoys within 182 m of any other flock or set of brant decoys, or (c) uses more than one blind for each flock or set of brant decoys, in that portion of M.U. 2-4 known as Boundary Bay, Municipality of Delta, lying to the west of a straight line running from Benson Road to the permanent marker on the International Boundary that is situated approximately 1 280 m east of the shore at the village of Boundary Bay. (3) Not more than 5 persons shall use a blind for the purpose of hunting brant in that portion of M.U. 2-4 described in subsection (2) above. -20-

Mountain Sheep

2. (1) A person commits an offence Where he hunts, takes or kills a mountain sheep ram in M.U. 3-17 unless it is a full curl bighorn ram mountain sheep. (2) A person commits an offence where he hunts, takes or kills a mountain sheep ram in M.U.'s 3-31 or 3-32 unless it is a three quarter curl bighorn ram mountain sheep. -26-

Vehicle restrictions

3. (1) A person commits an offence where he uses a snowmobile in M.U.'s 3-28 and 3-46 for the purpose of hunting, to carry wildlife or to transport a hunter to or from the location of wildlife. (2) A person authorized to trap is exempt from subsection (1) with respect to trapping of furbearing animals. -27-

PART 2 - RESTRICTIONS ON OPEN SEASONS

Moose

1. (1) A person commits an offence where he hunts, takes or kills a bull moose in M.U.'s 4-1 to 4-5, 4-20 to 4-26 or 4-34 to 4-39 unless it has at least one palmated antler not shorter than 30 cm in length and from which protrudes a brow tine or brow palm that is at least 15 cm in length. (2) A person commits an offence where he kills a bull moose in M.U.'s 4-1 to 4-5, 4-20 to 4-26 or 4-34 to 4-39 and does not, while returning from hunting, keep the antlers of the moose and the species licence under Which the moose was killed, together and available for inspection by an officer.

Elk (bulls)

2. (1) A person commits an offence where he hunts, takes or kills a bull elk in the open season set out in item 7 of Part 1 unless the bull elk has at least 3 tines (points) on one antler, each of which is 8 an or more in length. (2)A person commits an offence where he hunts, takes or kills a bull elk in the open season set out in item 8 or 9 of Part 1 unless the bull elk has at least 6 tines (points) on one antler, each of which is 8 an or more in length. (3)A person commits an offence where he kills a bull elk in Region 4 - Kootenay and does not, while returning from hunting keep the antlers of the elk and the species licence under which the elk was killed, together and available for inspection by an officer.

Mountain sheep

3. (1) The open season on mountain sheep rams in that portion of M.U. 4-25 lying east of the Kootenay River is from September 10 to October 31 (2)The open season on bighorn mountain sheep rams in that portion of M.U. 4-2 south and west of the Wigwam River is from September 10 to October 25. (3)A person commits an offence where he hunts, takes or kills a mountain sheep in Region 4 - Kootenay unless it is a full curl bighorn ram mountain sheep.

Caribou

4. There is no open season on caribou in that portion of M.U. 4-39 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the intersection of the Columbia River and Highway 1 at Revelstoke; thence northerly along the Columbia River to the intersection with the Arrow Provincial Forest boundary; thence westerly along the boundary of the -33-

Arrow Provincial Forest to the height of land being the boundary between Management Units 3-35 and 4-39; thence southerly along said boundary to Highway 1; thence easterly along Highway 1 to the point of commencement".

Mountain Goat

5.The open season on mountain goat is from September 10 to October 31 in that portion of M.U. 4-37 north and west of Windy Creek.

White-tailed Deer

6.(1) The open season on White-tailed deer of either sex is from December 10 to February 10 in that portion of M.U.'s 4-6 and 4-7 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the confluence of Arrow Creek and the Goat River; thence northerly along the westerly bank of Arrow Creek to Okell Creek; thence northwesterly and westerly along the southerly bank of Okell Creek to Wyndell Creek; thence westerly along the southerly bank of Wyndell Creek to its headwaters; thence due west to Highway 3A; thence southerly along Highway 3A and Highway 3 to Highway 21; thence southerly along Highway 21 to the Indian Mission; thence southeasterly and easterly along Mallory Road to Lister; thence due east to the easterly boundary of Lot 812; Kootenay District; thence northerly along the easterly boundary of Lots 812 and 7786, Kootenay District to the Goat River; thence northerly along the easterly bank of the Goat River to the point of commencement". (2) A person who, without a permit, hunts, takes or kills white-tailed deer in the area and during the period referred to in subsection (1) commits an offence.

Canada Geese

7. There is no open season on Canada geese in that portion of M.U. 4-3, 4-20, 4-21 and 4-22 contained between the east and west banks of the Kootenay River, including all waters, all sand and gravel bars and all islands between the confluence of the Kootenay and Bull Rivers and the Highway No. 95 bridge at Skookumchuck.

Cougar

8. There is no open season on cougar in that portion of M.U. 4-23 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the confluence of Elk River and Michel Creek and proceeding due west to the management unit boundary which separates M.U. 4-23 from M.U. 4-22; thence proceeding northerly along said management unit boundary to the management unit boundary which divides M.U. 4-23 from M.U. 4-24; thence proceeding northerly along said management unit boundary to the British Columbia-Alberta border; thence proceeding along that border to Crowsnest Pass; thence proceeding in a straight line to the head of Summit Lake; thence proceeding in a northerly direction along the eastern shore of Summit Lake to Summit Creek; thence proceeding downstream along Summit Creek to its confluence with Michel Creek; thence proceeding downstream along Michel Creek to the point of commencement". -34-

Raven

9. The open season for raven in Region 4 - Kootenay is restricted to private land.

Elk and white-tailed deer

10.(1) The open season for hunting with a bow only for elk and white-tailed deer bucks in those portions of M.U.'s 4-3, 4-20 and 4-21 as outlined in subsection (2) (a) and (b) is from September 1 to October 9 for antlerless elk and September 1 to September 9 for white-tailed deer bucks and bull elk. (2) Subsection (1) only applies in those areas contained within the following described boundaries: (a) Commencing at the mouth of Plumbob Creek and proceeding west- erly along Plumbob Creek to the height of land; thence north- erly along the height of land that divides the watershed of Gold Creek from the watershed of the Kootenay River and the watershed of St. Joseph's Creek from the Kootenay River water- shed to St. Mary River; thence easterly along the St. Mary River to its confluence with Kootenay River; thence southerly along Kootenay River to the point of commencement. (b) Commencing at the junction of Ta Ta Creek and Highway 95A and proceeding westerly along a logging access road which runs parallel to Ta Ta Creek, past Lost Dog Creek to the logging access road on the west side of Lost Dog Creek; thence north- erly along said road past Lost Dog Creek and the McNair Lakes; thence easterly along said road, south of Skookumchuck Creek to the western boundary of Lot 8958; thence northerly along the western boundary of Lot 8958 to Skookumchuck Creek; thence proceeding northerly along the height of land which divides the Skookumchuck drainage from the Kootenay River drainage to an unnamed peak which is 7 496 feet above sea level and is above the headwaters of Skookumchuck Creek; thence proceeding easterly along the height of land which divides the drainages of 2 unnamed creeks which flow into Findlay Creek to a point on Findlay Creek which is 5.9 km upstream of a railway bridge which crosses Findlay Creek at its mouth; thence proceeding downstream along Findlay Creek to its confluence with the Kootenay River; thence proceeding southerly along the Kootenay River to the point of origin.

Wolf

11. A person commits an offence where he kills a wolf in Region 4 and does not submit the wolf for inspection to an officer in Region 4 within 10 days of the kill.

Collared wildlife

12.A person commits an offence where he kills (a) a grizzly bear in M.U. 4-1, 4-2, 4-22 or 4-23, (b) an elk in M.U. 4-23, (c) a caribou in M.U. 4-38 or 4-39, -35-

(d) a cougar in M.U. 4-23, or (e) a mountain sheep in M.U. 4-2, 4-22 or 423 and the animal is wearing a collar which is of a colour contrasting with the animal's fur.

Vehicle restrictions

13. (1) A person commits an offence where he uses a snowmobile in M.U.'s 4-1 to 4-9 or 4-14 to 4-40 for the purpose of hunting, to carry wildlife or to transport a hunter to or from the location of wildlife. (2) A person commits an offence where he uses a motor vehicle for the purpose of hunting, to carry wildlife or to transport a hunter to or from the location of wildlife in the following areas: (a) that portion of M.U. 4-1 being the watershed of Kishenina and Akamina Creeks; (b) that portion of M.U. 4-20 being the watershed of Baribeau Creek; (c) that portion of M.U. 4-22 being the watershed of Iron Creek; (d) those portions of M.U. 4-24 being the watersheds of the middle fork of the White River and of Elk Creek; (e) that portion of M.U. 4-24 being the drainage of Fenwick Creek; (f) those portions of M.U. 4-25 being the drainage of Cross River and Albert River; (g) those portions of M.U. 4-35 being the drainages of Moose Creek, Ice River and Beaverfoot River upstream of Ice River; (h) that portion of M.U. 4-22 being the drainage of Ouinn Creek; (i) that portion of M.U. 4-1 being the drainage of Middlepass Creek; (j) that portion of M.U. 4-9 being the drainage of Malde, Goodeve, Morris and Sheppard Creeks; (k) that portion of M.U. 4-21 being the easterly headwaters of Coyote Creek; (1) that portion of M.U. 4-23 being the drainage of Chauncey Creek; (m) that portion of M.U. 4-23 being the drainage of Todhunter Creek; (n) that portion of M.U. 4-24 being the drainage of Inlet and Blackfoot Creeks; (o) that portion of M.U. 4-26 being the drainage of Dutch Creek; (p) that portion of M.U. 4-22 being the drainage of Little Sand Creek upstream of the Galloway Logging Road and Big Sand Creek upstream of Whimpster Creek; (q) that portion of M.U. 4-22 being the drainages of Burntbridge Creek and the unnamed creek upstream of Burntbridge Creek known locally as Fontain Creek; (r) those portions of M.U. 4-22 being the drainages of Swanson Creek, Haynes Creek, Big Tower Creek and Little Tower Creek; (s) those portions of M.U. 4-22 being the drainage of Burton Creek and Tunnel Creek; (t) those portions of M.U. 4-3 being the drainage of Haller Creek, Cherry Lake, Caven Creek and Bloom Creek; (u) that portion of M.U. 4-25 being the drainage of Pedley Creek. PART 3 - BAG LIMITS AND POSSESSION LIMITS

Deer

1. (1) In M.U.'s 4-1 to 4-5, 4-20 to 4-26, 4-34 to 4-37 and 4-40, the bag limit for white-tailed deer is one and the bag limit for mule (black-tailed) deer is one. (2) In M.U.'s 4-6 to 4-9, 4-14 to 4-19 and 4-27 to 4-23, the aggregate bag limit for deer is 2, only one of which may be a mule (black-tailed) deer. Both deer may be antlerless, but only one anterless deer of each species may be taken.

Moose and Elk 2.The aggregate bag limit for moose and elk is one.

Grizzly bear

3.A person who kills a grizzly bear in Region 4 - Kootenay commits an offence where he hunts for, takes or kills another grizzly bear in Region 4 - Kootenay before the calendar year of the kill and the next 5 calendar years have expired.

Grouse 4. The daily aggregate bag limit on blue, spruce (Franklin) and ruffed grouse is 10.

Pheasant 5.The bag limit for cock pheasant is 12 in one licence year. -37-

1. (1) There is no open season on mountain goat in portions of M.U.'s 5-5 and 5-6 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the confluence of the west branch of Mosley Creek and Hell Raving Creek; thence northerly, westerly and southwesterly along Hell Raving Creek to the headwaters; thence westerly along the height of land to the headwaters of Colwell Creek; thence northerly along Colwell Creek to the Klinaklini River; thence southerly and westerly along the Klinaklini River to the confluence with Jobin Creek; thence northerly along Jobin Creek to its headwaters; thence westerly to the Tweedsmuir Park boundary; thence northerly along the Tweedsmuir Park boundary to the intersection with Highway 20; thence easterly and southerly along Highway 20 to the intersection with the Bluff Lake Road in the vicinity of Tatla Lake; thence southerly along Bluff Lake Road to the intersection with Mosley Creek; thence northerly along Mosley Creek to Middle Lake; thence following the south shore of Middle Lake to Mosley Creek; thence southerly along Mosley Creek to the point of commencement". (3)There is no open season on mountain goat in that portion of M.U. 5-4 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the most northerly point of Taseko Lake; thence southeasterly in a straight line to Anvil Mountain; thence in a straight line easterly to Mount Tom; thence due east to the intersection with Big Creek being the easterly boundary of M.U. 5-4; thence southerly and westerly along the boundary of M.U. 5-4 to the intersection of the eastern boundary of M.U. 2-14; thence northerly to the headwaters of the Lord River; thence north- erly along the Lord River to the Taseko Lakes; thence northerly along Taseko Lakes to the point of commencement". (4)There is no open season on mountain goat in that portion of M.U. 5-15 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the intersection of the boundaries of M.U.'s 5-1, 5-15 and 3-46; thence northerly along the boundary of M.U. 3-46 (being the western boundary of Wells Gray Park) to a point due east of the headwaters of Summit Creek; thence due west to Summit Creek; thence downstream along Summit Creek to Quesnel Lake; thence along the south shore of Quesnel Lake to the inter- section with the boundary of M.U. 5-15; thence southerly along the bound- ary of M.U. 5-15 to the point of commencement". -41-

(5)The open season on mountain goat is from September 1 to September 17 in that portion of M.U. 5-8 and 5-9 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the confluence of the Dean River with Dean Channel; thence following the mean high water mark on the east shore of Dean Channel to Dean Point: thence following the mean high water mark to the mouth of the Bella Coola River; thence due south to Highway 20; thence easterly and northerly along Highway 20 to the intersection with the boundary of M.U. 5-12; thence northerly along the boundary of M.U. 5-12 to the intersection with the boundary of M.U. 5-10; thence northwesterly along the boundary of M.U. 5-10 to the boundary of Rainbow Nature Conservancy Area; thence southerly and westerly along the boundary of the Rainbow Nature Conservancy Area to the south boundary of M.U. 5-10; thence westerly and northerly along the boundary of M.U. 5-10 to the intersection with Dean River; thence westerly along the Dean River to the point of commencement". (6)There is no open season on mountain goat in the portion of M.U. 5-5 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the north end of Tatlayoko Lake where the Homathko River flows into it and proceeding southerly along the eastern shore of Tatlayoko Lake to Cheshi Creek; thence proceeding upstream along Cheshi Creek to its fork; thence proceeding upstream along the southern fork of Cheshi Creek to Stikelan Pass; thence proceeding in a northeasterly direction across Stikelan Pass to the headwaters of an unnamed creek flowing into Chilco Lake, north of Stikelan Point; thence proceeding downstream along said unnamed creek to Chilco Lake; thence proceeding in a northerly direction along the western shore of Chilco Lake to Chilco River; thence proceeding downstream along Chilco River to the northern boundary of lot 349A, Range 2 - Coast District; thence proceeding westerly along that lot's boundary to Henry's Crossing Road; thence proceeding northerly then westerly along Henry's Crossing Road to its intersection with Road No. 1058 Tatlayoko; thence proceeding southwesterly along Road No.1058 Tatlayoko to Homathko River; thence proceeding southerly along the Homathko River to the point of commencement".

Big game

2. (1) There is no open season on big game in those portions of M.U. 5-15 within the following described boundaries: (a) 0.4 km from either side of the centreline of that portion of the Cariboo River Forest Development Road ( B.C. Forest Service Project No. 6142) being northerly and easterly from the junction of said Development Road and Ladies Creek, and all branch roads leading to or from the Matthew River Development Road; (b) 0.4 km from either side of the centreline of that portion of the Spanish Lake Road (B.C. Forest Service right of way No. 0293593), being northerly and easterly from the junction of the Spanish Lake Road and an unnamed creek which flows westerly into the eastern end of Spanish Lake, and all branch roads leading to or from the Spanish Lake Road; (c) 0.4 km from either side of the centreline of that portion of the Cunningham Pass Forest Road being easterly and southerly from Tinsdale Creek. -42-

(2) There is no open season on big game in those portions of M.U. 5-13 within the following described boundaries: (a) 0.4 km from either side of the centreline of that portion of the Alex Graham-Palmer Lake Road (B.C. Forest Service Project No. 5265), being northerly and westery from kilometre 46; (b) 0.4 km from either side of the centreline of that portion of the Clusko-Thunder Mountain Road (B.C. Forest Service Project No. 7356) being westerly and northerly from the junction of the Clusko-Thunder Mountain Road and the Alex Graham-Palmer Lake Road to the junction of the Clusko-Thunder Mountain Road and the Clusko River; (c) 0.4 km from either side of the centreline of that portion of the Michelle Creek and Michelle-Coglistiko Road (B.C. Forest Service Project No. 7672), being southerly and westerly from the junction of the Michelle Creek Road and Michelle Creek, including all branch roads leading to or from the Michelle Creek and Michelle-Coglistiko Road; (d) 0.4 in from either side of the centreline of that portion of the Michelle-Baezaeko Road (B.C. Forest Service Project No. 7672) being the first 50 km of the road southerly and westerly from its junction with Michelle Creek Road and including all branch roads leading to the first 50 km of the Michelle-Baezaeko Road. (3) There is no open season on big game in those portions of M.U.'s 5-13 and 5-14 contained within the following described boundaries: (a) 0.4 km from either side of the centreline of Highway 20, westerly and northerly from a point in the vicinity of Lee's Corner to the junction of Highway 20 and the Chilcotin River in the vicinity of Redstone; (b) 0.4 km from either side of the centreline of that portion of tLe Rosita-Meldrum Forest Service Road (B.C. Forest Service Project No. 6426) northerly and westerly from Beaverdam Creek.

Mule (black-tailed) deer

3.(1) A person commits an offence where he hunts, takes or kills a mule (black-tailed) deer buck in M.U. 5-3 unless the buck has at least 4 tines (points) on one antler excluding the brow tine, and each of the 4 tines is at least 8 an long. (2) A person commits an offence where he kills a mule (black-tailed) deer buck in M.U. 5-3 and does not, while returning from hunting, keep the antlers of the deer and the species licence under which the deer was killed, together and available for inspection by an officer.

Caribou

4. A person commits an offence where he takes or kills a caribou in Region 5 - Cariboo and does not submit to an officer in Region 5 (a) the lower jaw or an incisor tooth, including the root, and (b) the antlers.

Grizzly Bear

5.(1) There is no open season on grizzly bear in the following portions of M.U. 5-9: -43- (a) the watershed of Kimsquit River; (b) the watershed of the Dean River downstream of its confluence with the Takia River; (c) the watershed of Hoam Creek; (d) the portion of M.U. 5-9 that drains into the east side of the Dean Channel, north of the mouth of Dean River and south and east of the mouth of Kimsquit River. (2) There is no open season for grizzly bear in that portion of M.U. 5-7 which is the watershed of Genesee Creek, downstream of Walkus Lake.

Mountain sheep

6.(1) A person commits an offence where he hunts, takes or kills a mountain sheep ram in M.U. 5-3 unless it is a full curl bighorn ram mountain sheep. (2) A person commits an offence where he hunts, takes or kills a mountain sheep ram in M.U. 5-4 unless it is a three quarter curl bighorn ram mountain sheep.

Raven 7.The open season for raven in Region 5 - Cariboo is restricted to private land.

Vehicle restrictions 8.(1) A person commits an offence where he uses a motor vehicle for the purpose of hunting, to carry wildlife or to transport a hunter to or from the location of wildlife (a) in that portion of M.U. 5-13 being Clusko-Thunder Mountain Forest Road (No. 7365) from a point 5 km north of the junction of Clusko-Thunder Mountain Road and Clusko River, (b) in that portion of M.U. 5-13 being the Michelle-Baezaeko Road (B.C. Forest Service Project No. 7672) westerly from a point 50 km westerly of its junction with the Michelle Creek Road (B.C. Forest Service Project No. 7672), (c) in that portion of M.U. 5-4 being all side roads to the Lord River Mining Development Road, (d) in that portion of M.U. 5-8 being the Nusatsum-Naeick Forest Service Road (B.C. Forest Service Project No. 942-8130) southerly and westerly from its junction with Highway 20, and (e) in that portion of M.U. 5-8 being the Talchako Forest Service Road southerly and easterly from a point 3 km from its junction with Highway 20. (2)A person commits an offence where he uses a motor vehicle for the purpose of hunting, to carry a firearm, to carry wildlife or to transport a hunter to or from the location of wildlife in M.U. 5-12 from September 1 to September 30, except on a highway as defined by the Highway Act, an industrial road as defined by the Highway (Industrial) Act or a privately owned road. (3)A person authorized to trap is exempt from subsections (1) and (2) with respect to trapping of furbearing animals. -44-

2. There is no open season for caribou in that portion of M.U.'s 6-25, 6-26 and 6-27 within the boundaries of Atlin Provincial Park and Recreation Area.

Mountain Goat

3. (1) There is no open season on mountain goat in that portion of M.U. 6-4 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the southwest corner of District Lot 3086, Range 4, Coast District; thence due east to the Houston-Nadina Lake Road; thence easterly and northerly along said road to the intersection with the Houston-Francois Lake Road; thence southeasterly along the Houston-Francois Lake Road to the intersection with District Lot 847, Range 4, Coast District; thence due south to the north shore of Ootsa Lake; thence westerly along the north shore of Ootsa Lake, Tahtsa Reach and Tahtsa Lake to the point of commencement". Black Bear

5. There is no open season on Kermodei (White) or Glacier (Blue) colour phases of the black bear.

Moose

6.(1) There is no open season for moose in that portion of M.U. 6-4 and 6-9 contained in the area parallel to and 2 km (1.2 miles) perpendicular distant from either side of the centre line of the Owen-Francois Road from the south end of Owen Lake to Francois Lake. -51-

(2)The open seasons for hunting with a bow only for bull moose in M.U. 6-9 are from September 10 to September 14 and November 16 to November 20. (3)A person commits an offence where he hunts for moose during an open season described in subsection (2) and does not report to an officer in Region 6 within 10 days of the completion of the hunt. (4)There is no open season on moose, except as provided in the Limited Entry Hunting Regulation (B.C. Reg. 111/84) in that portion of M.U. 6-4 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the mouth of Andrews Creek and proceeding upstream along the south shores of Fish Lake, Horseshore Lake and Skinny Lake to the southernmost tip of Skinny Lake; thence proceeding upstream along the unnamed creek which flows into the southernmost tip of Skinny Lake to a point directly across the height of land from the headwaters of an unnamed creek flowing southerly into Tahtsa Reach; thence proceeding across the height of land to the headwaters of said unnamed creek; thence proceeding downstream along said unnamed creek to Tahtsa Reach; thence proceeding across Tahtsa Reach in a southeasterly direction to the mouth of an unnamed creek flowing northwesterly into the Tahtsa Reach; thence proceeding upstream along said unnamed creek to its headwaters; thence proceeding southeasterly to the height of land; thence proceeding northeasterly to the headwaters of an unnamed creek flowing in an easterly direction into the Whitesail Reach; thence proceeding northerly along the shore of Whitesail Reach to the point of land dividing Whitesail Reach from Tahtsa Reach; thence proceeding northeasterly in a straight line to the point of land forming the south shore of Andrews Bay; thence proceeding westerly along the south shore of Andrews Bay to the point of commencement". (5)There is no open season for moose in those portions of M.U. 6-9 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the northeast corner of Lot 2163 at the mean high water mark of the western bank of the Bulkley River and proceeding upstream along the river bank to a point due south of the western boundary of Lot 6591; thence proceeding north to the southwest corner of Lot 6591; thence proceeding north along the western boundary of Lot 6591 to the southwest corner of Lot 3468; thence proceeding north to a point halfway between the southwest corner and the northwest corner of Lot 3468; thence proceeding due west for .4 km; thence proceeding due north to the northern boundary of Lot 5414; thence proceeding west along the northern boundaries of Lots 5414, 3468, 2601 and 2606 to the western boundary of Lot 2613; thence proceeding due north to the mean high water mark of the southwestern bank of the Bulkley River; thence proceeding upstream along the river bank to the point of commencement, all lots in Coast Range 5 District". 7. The open season for wolf in that portion of M.U. 6-1 and 6-2 being Tweedsmuir Park, is from September 1 to March 31.

Mountain sheep 8. (1) A person commits an offence where he hunts, takes or kills a mountain sheep in Region 6 - Skeena unless it is a full curl thinhorn ram mountain sheep. (2) There is no open season for mountain sheep in that portion of M.U.'s 6-25, 6-26 and 6-27 within the boundaries of Atlin Provincial Park and Recreation Area.

Hunting methods

9. A person commits an offence where he hunts with a rifle or a shotgun using a single projectile in (a) that portion of M.U. 6-9 or 6-10 described as that area of land parallel to and 1 km perpendicular distant from the high-water mark perimeter of Lakelse Lake, or (b) Boya Lake Park in M.U. 6-23.

Vehicle restrictions

10. (1) A person commits an offence where he uses a snowmobile in M.U.'s 6-4, 6-5, 6-6, 6-8, 6-9, 6-15 or 6-17B for the purpose of hunting to carry wildlife or to transport a hunter to or from the location of wildlife. (2) A person commits an offence where he uses a motor vehicle to transport wildlife or to transport hunters to or from the location of wildlife in (a) those portions of M.U.'s 6-17B, 6-18, 6-19 and 6-20 parallel to and 2 km perpendicular distance from the centre of the B.C. Railway right of way from the confluence of the Skeena and Mosque Rivers in the south to the intersection of the B.C. Railway right of way with Highway 37 in the north, or (b) any area that is more than 0.4 km beyond any ferry landing site in M.U. 6-2. (3) A person commits an offence where he uses a tracked vehicle (other than a snowmobile) or a vehicle with more than 4 driving wheels for the purpose of hunting, to carry wildlife or to transport hunters to or from the location of wildlife in M.U. 6-19, 6-20, 6-21 or 6-23. (4) A person commits an offence where he uses a snowmobile, motorcycle or off-highway vehicle for the purpose of hunting, to carry wildlife or to transport hunters to or from the location of wildlife in M.U. 6-18. (5) A person authorized to trap is exempt from subsections (1), (2), (3) and (4) with respect to trapping of furbearing animals. -53-

Moose and mule (black-tailed) deer

1.The open season for hunting with a bow only in M.U. 7-15 for mule (black-tailed) deer bucks, and bull moose is September 1 to September 9.

Mule (black-tailed) deer

2.(1) A person commits an offence where he hunts, takes or kills a mule (black-tailed) deer buck or a white-tailed deer buck in an open season described in item 3, 4 or 6 of Part 1 for Region 7 - Omineca-Peace, unless the buck has at least 4 tines (points) on one antler and each of the 4 tines is at least 8 cm long. (2) A person commits an offence where he kills a mule (black-tailed) deer buck in an open season described in item 3, 4 or 6 of Part 1 for Region 7 Omineca-Peace and does not, while returning from hunting, keep the antlers of the deer and the species licence under which the deer was killed, together and available for inspection by an officer.

Moose

3.(1) Except as permitted under the Limited Entry Hunting Regulation (B.C. Reg. 111/84), a person commits an offence where he hunts, takes or kills a bull moose in M.U.'s 7-2 to 7-18, 7-23 to 7-30 or 7-38 unless the bull moose has no more than 2 tines (points) on one antler. (2) A person commits an offence where he kills a bull moose in M.U.'s 7-2 to 7-18, 7-23 to 7-30 or 7-38 and does not, while returning from hunting, keep the antlers of the moose and the species licence under which the moose was killed, together and available for inspection by an officer.

Mountain Goat

4.(1) There is no open season on mountain goat in the portion of M.U. 7-3 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the intersection of the Holmes River with Highway 16 in the vicinity of McBride, Cariboo Land District; thence upstream along the Holmes River to the intersection with the westerly boundary of Mount Robson Park; thence southerly along said boundary to the headwaters of Small Creek; thence westerly and southerly along Small Creek to the intersection with Highway 16; thence northwesterly along said highway to the intersection with an unnamed creek, in the vicinity of District Lot 7823A, Cariboo Land District; thence northerly along the unnamed creek to its headwaters; thence northerly along the height of land separating Horsey Creek from Small Creek, Horsey Creek from the Holmes River and Nevin Creek from the Holmes River to a point approximately 4 km due north of the northeast -60- corner of District Lot 7217, Cariboo Land District; thence due southeast to Nevin Creek; thence northeasterly along Nevin Creek and its most northerly tributary to the height of land separating the Nevin Creek watershed from the watershed of Small Creek and the Holmes River; thence southerly along the height of land separating Nevin Creek and Small Creek to the headwaters of Holliday Creek; thence westerly along Holliday Creek to the intersection with Highway 16; thence northwesterly along Highway 16 to the point of commencement". (3)There is no op'n season on mountain goat in that portion of M.U. 7-4 contained within the following described boundaries: (a) "commencing at the confluence of the Fraser River and Eddy Creek; thence southerly along Eddy Creek to the height of land; thence following the height of land to the confluence of the Castle River with the Fraser River; thence northerly along the Fraser River to the point of commencement", and (o) "commencing at the confluence of the Raush River with the Fraser River; thence southerly along the Fraser River to the confluence of Kiwa Creek; thence westerly along the height of land separating the watershed of Kiwa Creek from the watershed of the Fraser River to a point separating the watershed of the most northerly fork of Kiwa Creek from the watershed of the Raush River; thence due west to the Raush River; thence north- erly along the Raush River to the point of commencement", and (c) "commencing at the southwestern corner of Lot 6030, Cariboo Land District; thence following the height of land separating the watershed of Kiwa Creek from the watersheds of the Raush River and Tete Creek to the southwest corner of Lot 6026, Cariboo Land District; thence northerly along the western boundary of Lots 6026 and 6027 to the southeast corner of Lot 6030; thence westerly to the point of commencement". (4)There is no open season on mountain goat in that portion of M.U. 7-3 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the junction of the Holmes River with the Fraser River; thence down- stream along the Fraser River to the junction with McKale Creek; thence upsteam along McKale Creek to the height of land being Mount Renshaw; thence easterly along the height of land separating the watershed of Renshaw Creek from the watershed of Chalco Creek to the B.C./Alberta Provincial Boundary; thence southeasterly along said boundary to the boundary of Mount Robson Park; thence southerly along the park boundary to the Holmes River; thence downstream along the Holmes River to the point of commencement". (5)There is no open season on mountain goat in that portion of M.U. 7-2 contained within the 4 000 foot contour and bounded on the south by Gunn and Glacier Creeks and the height of land between said creeks. (6)There is no open season for mountain goat in that portion of M.U. 7-3 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the intersection of the Holmes River and Highway 16 in the vicinity of McBride, Cariboo Land District; thence upstream along the Holmes River to a point due north of the northeast corner of Lot 7217, Cariboo Land District; thence due south approximately 6.5 km; thence southeast to Nevin Creek; thence southerly along Nevin Creek to the intersection with Highway 16; thence northwesterly along said Highway to the point of commencement".

Mountain Goat and Caribou

5. There is no open season on caribou or mountain goat in that portion of M.U. 7-38 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the confluence of Ogden Creek and the Omineca River; thence westerly along Ogden Creek to the height of land separating the watershed of Ominicetla Creek from the watershed of Ogden Creek; thence northerly along an unnamed creek which flows northerly into Ominicetla Creek; thence easterly along Ominicetla Creek to the Omineca River; thence southeasterly along said river to the point of commencement". -62-

Moose, caribou and mountain sheep

6. There is no open season for moose, caribou or mountain sheep in that portion of M.U. 7-21 within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the confluence of Murray River and Wolverine River and proceeding upstream along the middle thread of Wolverine River to its headwaters; thence proceeding southeasterly across the height of land to the headwaters of an unnamed creek which flows into the Murray River at a point approximately .5 km southwest of the mouth of Kinuseo Creek; thence proceeding downstream along the middle thread of the creek to its confluence with Murray River; thence proceeding northeast along the middle thread of Murray River to its confluence with Kinuseo Creek; thence proceeding upstream along the middle thread of Kinuseo Creek to a point where the creek turns sharply to the east (travelling upstream) approximately 1.4 km upstream of the mouth of Honeymoon Creek; thence proceeding northerly across the height of land to a point on the middle thread of Flatbed Creek where the creek bends sharply to the east (travelling upstream); thence proceeding downstream along the middle thread of Flatbed Creek to its confluence with Murray River; thence proceeding northerly along the middle thread of Murray River to the point of commencement".

Caribou

7. (1) There is no open season on caribou in that portion of M.U. 7-51 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the intersection of the Racing River and Highway 97 (Alaska Highway) in the vicinity of Muncho Lake Provincial Park; thence southeasterly along Highway 97 to the intersection of the boundary of M.U. 7-51 with the boundary of M.U. 7-50; thence southerly along the height of land separating the watershed of the Racing River from the watersheds of the Chischa River, the Tuchodi River, the Gataga River and the Toad River to the intersection with Highway 97 (Alaska Highway); thence easterly to the point of commencement". (2)There is no open season on caribou in that portion of M.U. 7-52 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the confluence of Kutcho Creek and the Turnagain River; thence northerly, easterly, southerly, westerly, northerly and easterly along the height of land separating the watershed of Kutcho Creek and the Turnagain River from the watersheds of the Pitman River and the Eagle River to a point due east of the most northerly portion of Hard Lake; thence following the height of land northerly and southwesterly to a point on the Turnagain River due west of the confluence of Kutcho Creek with the Turnagain River; thence due east to the point of commencement". (3)There is no open season on caribou in that portion of M.U. 7-22 east of the Sukunka River.

Mountain Goat and Mountain Sheep

8. There is no open season on mountain sheep or mountain goat in that portion of M.U. 7-51 and 7-54 contained in the area parallel to and 1.6 km (1 mile) perpendicular distant from either side of the Alaska Highway (Highway 97) between milepost 435 to milepost 480. -63-

Mountain Sheep

9. There is no open season on mountain sheep in that portion of M.U. 7-54 east of Mill Creek, McClennan Creek and the Dunedin River.

Grizzly Bear 10. There is no open season on grizzly bear in that portion of M.U. 7-2 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the confluence of Packsaddle Creek and Canoe Reach; thence southerly along the east shore of Canoe Reach to Bulldog Creek; thence easterly along Bulldog Creek to the boundary of M.U. 7-1; thence northerly along said boundary to the headwaters of Packsaddle Creek; thence southwesterly along said creek to the point of commencement".

Elk

11.(1) A person commits an offence where he hunts, takes or kills a bull elk in Region 7 - Omineca-Peace unless the bull elk has at least one branched antler with at least 3 tines (points), each of which is at least 8 cm in length. (2) A person commits an offence where he kills a bull elk in Region 7 - Omineca - Peace and does not, while returning from hunting, keep the antlers of the elk and the species licence under which the elk was killed, together and available for inspection by an officer.

Water fowl

12. There is no open season on ducks, coots, Wilson's snipe, white-fronted geese, snow geese, Ross' geese and Canada geese in that portion of M.U. 7-33 contained within 100 m (109 yards) of either side of the Peace River downstream from the Highway 97 bridge near Taylor to the Province of Alberta border.

Moose

13. The open season for bull moose is from August 15 to November 6 in the following portions of the Province of British Columbia: (a) that portion of M.U. 7-36 contained within the following described boundaries: "commencing at the most southeasterly corner of District Lot 3154 (Peace River Land District); thence easterly along Graham River for approximately 800 m; thence southerly up the unnamed creek to its headwaters; thence overland to Emerslund Lakes; thence southerly down Emerslund Creek to its confluence with Nabesche River; thence westerly up the mainstem of Nabesche River to its headwaters on the Rocky Mountain Divide; thence northerly along the western boundary of M.U. 7-36 to the headwaters of Poutange Creek; thence easterly along the north boundary of M.U. 7-36 to the point of commencement"; -64-

(c) that portion of M.U. 7-42 within the following described boundaries: commencing at the mouth of Trimble Creek and pro- ceeding upstream to Trimble Lake; thence proceeding northwest- erly along the northern shore of Trimble Lake to the western- most point of that lake; thence proceeding in a straight line northwesterly to the southernmost point of Besa River; thence proceeding downstream along Besa River to Keily Creek; thence upstream along Keily Creek for a distance of 9 km; thence due north to Richards Creek; thence upstream along Richards Creek for a distance of 2.5 km; thence due north to Hewer Creek, then proceeding downstream along Hewer Creek to Prophet River; thence proceeding northerly to the headwater of Crehan Creek; thence proceeding downstream along Crehan Creek to its first tributary which flows northerly; thence proceeding upstream along that tributary to its headwater; thence proceeding northwesterly to the headwater of the unnamed creek which flows into Muskwa River; thence proceeding westerly along the northern boundary of M.U. 7-42 to Bedaux Pass; thence proceed- ing southeasterly along the western boundary of M.U. 7-42; thence proceeding easterly along the southern boundary of M.U. 7-42 to the point of commencement.

Raven

14. The open season for raven in M.U.'s 7-20, 7-21 and 7-32 to 7-35 is restricted to private land. -65-

Mountain sheep rams

15. A person commits an offence where he hunts, takes or kills a mountain sheep in Region 7 - Omenica-Peace, unless it is a full curl bighorn or full curl thinhorn ram mountain sheep.

Stewart Lake special weapons area

16. (1) The special weapons open season for bull moose is from November 26 to December 11 in the portion of M.U. 7-32 that is east and south of Pine River. (2)A person commits an offence where he hunts for bull moose in the area and during the period specified in subsection (1) and does not report to an officer in Fort St. John before hunting. (3)A person who kills a bull moose in the area and during the period specified in subsection (1) and does not report the killing of the bull moose to an officer in Fort St. John within 10 days commits an offence. (4)A person commits an offence where he hunts under subsection (1) unless he uses a bow or a muzzle loading weapon.

Hunting methods

17. A person commits an offence where he hunts with a rifle or a shotgun using a single projectile from Jule 1 to October 15 in that portion of M.U. 7-35 contained within Sections 3 and 10, Township 83, Range 25, W6M, the west half of Sections 2 and 11, Township 83, Range 25, W6M, and that portion of Section 4 and 9, Township 33, Range 25, W6M east of the fence which runs northerly from the mid point of the southern boundary of Section 4 for approximately 1.2 km; thence northwesterly to a point on the west boundary of Section 9 approximately 0.3 km south of the northwest corner of Section 9.

Vehicle restrictions 18. (1) A person commits an offence where he uses a snowmobile in M.U.'s 7-1 to 7-18, 7-23 to 7-30, 7-37, 7-38 or 7-39 for the purpose of hunting,to carry wildlife or to transport a hunter to or from the location of wildlife. (2)A person commits an offence where he uses a motorcycle as defined in the Motor Vehicle Act in M.U.'s 7-38 and 7-39 for the purpose of hunting, to carry wildlife or to transport a hunter to or from the location of wildlife. (3)A person commits an offence where he operates a motor vehicle for the purpose of hunting, to carry wildlife or to transport hunters to or from the location of wildlife in that portion of M.U. 7-3 being the drainages between East Twin and Fleet Creeks. (4)A person authorized to trap is exempt from subsections (1), (2) and (3) with respect to trapping of furbearing animals. -66-

Deer

1. (1) The open season for hunting with a bow only for mule (black-tailed) deer and white-tailed deer in M.U.'s 8-1, 8-2, 8-4 to 8-10, 8-13 to 8-15, 8-21 to 8-26 is September 3 to September 9. (2) The open season for hunting with a bow only for mule (black- tailed) deer bucks and white-tailed deer bucks (a) in M.U. 3-11 is September 10 to October 31, and (b) in M.U.'s 8-1, 8-2, 8-8 to 8-10, 8-13, 8-21, 8-22, and 8-24 to 8-26 is November 16 to November 30. (3) A person commits an offence where he hunts, takes or kills a mule (black-tailed) deer buck or a white-tailed deer buck in M.U. 8-3, unless the buck has at least 4 tines (points) on one antler and each of the 4 tines is at least 8 cm long. (4) [new] A person commits an offence where he kills a mule (black-tailed) deer buck or a white-tailed deer buck in M.U. 8-3 and does not, while returning from hunting, keep the antlers of the deer and the species licence under which the deer was killed together and available for inspection by an officer. (5) A person commits an offence where he hunts, takes or kills a mule (black-tailed) deer or white-tailed deer in M.U. 8-15 from September 3 to September 9 with a firearm other than a bow, unless it is a buck with at least 4 tines on one antler, excluding the brow tine, and each of the tines is at least 8 cm long. (6) A person commits an offence where he kills a mule (black-tailed) deer buck or a white-tailed deer buck with a firearm in M.U. 8-15 from September 3 to September 9 and does not, while returning from hunting, keep the antlers of the deer and the species licence under which the deer was killed, together and available for inspection by an officer.

Elk 2. (1) A person commits an offence where he hunts, takes or kills a bull elk in Region 8 - Okanagan, unless the bull elk has at least one branched antler with at least 3 tines (points), each of which is not less than 8 cm in length. (2) A person commits an offence where he kills a bull elk in Region 8 - Okanagan and does not, while returning from hunting keep the antlers of the deer and the species licence under which the deer was killed, together and available for inspection by an officer.

Mountain Sheep Rams

3. A person commits an offence where he hunts, takes or kills a mountain sheep ram in M.U. 8-1 or 8-9, unless it is a three quarter curl bighorn ram mountain sheep. -71-

4. A person commits an offence where he hunts with a rifle in Deadman Lake Park in M.U. 8-1.

Vehicle restrictions

5.(1) A person commits an offence where he uses a snowmobile for the purpose of hunting, to carry wildlife or to transport a hunter to or from the location of wildlife in M.U.'s 8-1 to 8-15 and 8-21 to 8-26. (2)A person authorized to trap is exempt from subsection (1) with regard to trapping of furbearing animals. (3)A person commits an offence where he transports firearms in a motorized vehicle for the purpose of hunting on the Kobau Mountain Road from its junction with Highway 3 to "Mile 12" at the summit. -72-

Deer

1. The aggregate bag limit for deer is 2 only one of which may be a mule (black-tailed) deer.

Grouse

2. The daily aggregate bag limit for blue, spruce (Franklin) and ruffed grouse is 5 provided that the daily limit is not exceeded for any one species.

Grizzly Bear

3.A person who kills a grizzly bear in M.U.'s 8-12 to 8-15 commits an offence where he hunts for, takes or kills another grizzly bear in M.U.'s 8-12 to 8-15, before the calendar year of the kill and the next 5 calendar years have expired.

Mountain sheep

4. A person who kills a mountain sheep in Region 8 after January 1, 1982, commits an offence where he hunts for, takes or kills another mountain sheep in Region 8 before the calendar year of the kill and the next 5 calendar years have expired.

Pheasant 5. The daily bag limit for pheasant is 2, one of which may be a hen, the possesion limit is 6, 3 of which may be hens.
