When I first heard the soundtrack of ‘Curtains’ a couple of years ago I loved it, not just because it has great music and lyrics but because I thought the whole premise behind the show was very apt for a musical group such as ours. Lieutenant Frank Cioffi our protagonist enjoys his work and does it well but like many of us, one of his greatest joys in his life is to perform in musical theatre. ‘Curtains’ has only recently become available for amateur production and is quite a challenge from a technical point of view, however with fantastic principal roles and lots of energetic chorus numbers, it’s a great fit for GLOC. As usual there are too many people to thank individually for their help both front and back stage. It’s always a mammoth effort by our members and helpers. Our production team Karen, Stephanie and Becky have done a fantastic job but I particularly want to thank Stephanie for the many, many hours she has dedicated to reworking the orchestration to fit our band. We hope you enjoy the show and that it keeps you guessing until the end. But as we sing in our final number please “don’t reveal who kills who” to your friends and family who are coming to future performances! Karen Steel A message from the production team Can’t believe it’s that time already! ‘Curtains’ is a great show which has a murder mystery, a sweet love story and fabulous songs. It has been a fun show to rehearse and we hope you enjoy watching it as much as the cast do performing it! There is always an army of people involved in getting these productions on stage and we want to thank each and every one of them. Thank you for coming to support us and we’ll see you in the bar later! Karen, Becky and Stephanie Plot Overview Set behind the scenes of an off-broadway theatre production in 1950s Boston, ‘Curtains’ follows the cast and creative team of ‘Robbin’ Hood of the Old West’ - a flawed Western reimagining of the classic Robin Hood story. Lieutenant Frank Cioffi is thrown into the spotlight when the show’s star is dramatically murdered. An avid musical theatre fan, he is both delighted and dismayed with what he finds - a disenfranchised cast, a flawed production, jealous former lovers, dysfunctional families and a beautiful understudy who is waiting in the wings for stardom. Can he overcome the mysteries, rivalries and tensions to solve the case? Will the cast and crew be reunited in harmony? Will ‘In The Same Boat’ ever work as a musical number? There is only one way to find out… time to settle down with a drink and enjoy the show! The Company LIEUTENANT FRANK CIOFFI - Mark Evans Mark has been a member of GLOC since 1992, when he had a full head of hair and was the youngest member. Now 22 years later he is bald as a coot (never got that, coots aren't bald?) and right up there with the more mature company members. Mark has enjoyed rehearsing for Curtains and hopes Lt. Frank Cioffi is more like Colombo than Frank Drebin!!! NIKI HARRIS—Faye Williams Faye is dead excited to have been targeted from the chorus and given her first shot at a killer part in a GLOC show. She's thrilled she's been presented the opportunity to finally do it.........or did she???? GEORGIA HENDRICKS - Sarah Lister Sarah has always had a love of musical theatre, growing up watching her parents rehearse and perform with GLOC. She made her GLOC debut in Children of Eden as a youngster and joined for real at the age of 16 before moving away to study music at university. She has performed with amateur groups in Cardiff & Birmingham, most recently playing Edith in Broadway Pirates, before re-joining GLOC for Smokey Joe’s Café when she moved back south! CARMEN BERNSTEIN - Karen Steel Karen is shocked to realise she joined GLOC 30 years ago in 1984 to perform in ‘Chicago’ as a ‘merry murderess’. Some would say she’s been murdering musical theatre ever since! As one of the ever dwindling team of GLOC costumiers, she’s delighted that GLOC has finally staged a show set in the 50s, her favourite era. Often described as a shrinking violet, Karen has loved playing the part of Carmen as it has really stretched her acting ability. AARON FOX - Alistair Slaughter Alistair saw success in his acting career at an early age, claiming best support- ing actor for his portrayal of Joseph in Fielding Primary School's reproduction of the nativity story, at the tender age of seven. Since then, however, he has with- drawn from the spotlight, making only occasional appearances in smaller roles for the Ealing Green Players, Ealing Shakespeare Players and the Stopgap Theatre Group. He makes his return to GLOC after a seven year break and is excited by the prospect of reclaiming his juvenile status within the group. CHRISTOPHER BELLING - Jim Simpson Jim trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama where the two hours of music and 'movement' he received each week totally failed to equip him for a career in musicals Credits include Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Company, Chess, Joseph, City Of Angels, 42nd St. and his all time favourite role of 'Man in Chair' in The Drowsy Chaperone. SIDNEY BERNSTEIN - Adrian Duce Adrian is celebrating 26 years with GLOC with a small cameo role in ‘Curtains’ - blink and you’ll miss him. Previous roles with GLOC include Motel, the tailor in Fiddler on the Roof, Big Julie in Guys and Dolls, and Underling, the butler in The Drowsy Chaperone. Roles elsewhere have included Ambrose in Hello Dolly, Isaachar in Joseph and Orin, the dentist in Little Shop of Horrors. Adrian was booking into the local home for retired cameo performers when he got the call for ‘Curtains’. BAMBI BERNÉT - Becky Crockford Becky has been with GLOC since 2001, when she was finally old enough to be able to join. She realises this is now 13 years ago, unlucky for some (of us!). She is very pleased to be able to play a part that enables her to dance, which is her great passion. She has choreographed the company in many of the num- bers in the show, although the company are still too nervous to look her straight in the eye as she is a hard task master! JOHNNY HARMON - Duncan Walduck Duncan joined GLOC for Honk! (a.k.a. 'Croak') in 2005, and is now on his 10th production on stage here with GLOC, and 13th in the venue (give or take a skit). In 2006, he played his first feature role as Jimmy in Crazy for You. Duncan has at times been found lurking in the wings and flues for The Questors’ own native endeavours, as stagehand and as a junior acolyte of lighting, thus extending an able arm to Pete.
