Conservatives at Surrey County Council are meeting that challenge in Woking with expansions at Goldsworth Primary, Westfield Primary and in Knaphill. At Goldsworth Primary School, two forms of entry becomes three, increasing the capacity of the school by 50% and meaning more parents will have the choice to send their children to this popular school. In Westfield, the move of Surrey County Arts to Guildford will free up space for more children and the County Council is happy to fund more places there for children in south Woking. The County Council has also announced a school expansion for Knaphill as part of the Brookwood Farm development and this will ease pressure on the current Knaphill and Brookwood schools. • 1 Mr Robert Waldie, 109 Westfield Road Mayford Woking Surrey GU22 9QR 26Th July 2015 Dear Sir Or Madam Regarding: Woking 2027 D
Mr Robert Waldie, 109 Westfield Road Mayford Woking Surrey GU22 9QR 26th July 2015 Dear Sir or Madam Regarding: Woking 2027 DPD Consultation I write in regard to the above as a Mayford resident for over 20 years and a resident of Woking borough for over 30 years. I would be pleased if you would consider the following comments based upon the development plans for the following sites. Site Reference: GB7 (Ten Acre Farm, Smarts Heath Road) I object to the proposal to increase the number of Traveller Pitches on this land. I am pleased that Mayford continues to offer this facility but I fear that any increase in its use will be seen as a stepping stone to further increases in future years. Besides being in the Green Belt this site is in the direct proximity of an SSSI. Smarts Heath Common is used by many local residents for recreational purposes and provides a valuable habitat for our local reptile and bird populations. I am concerned that increasing the number of people living in this area will result in more unrestrained dogs and (particularly) cats which could decimate this wildlife. Site References: GB8 (Nursery land adjacent to Egley Road) GB9 (Woking Garden Centre, Egley Road) GB10 (Land to the north east of Saunders Lane, between Saunders Lane and Hook Hill Lane) GB11 (Land to the north west of Saunders Lane) GB14 (Land adjacent to Hook Hill Lane, Hook Heath) I strongly object to the proposal for housing on all of the above sites. 1 Is the Green Belt a good idea or not? Most people, whether for or against this proposal, will agree that the Green Belt is a good idea.

  • Woking Borough Council Election Results 1973-2012
Woking Borough Council Election Results 1973-2012 Colin Rallings and Michael Thrasher The Elections Centre Plymouth University The information contained in this report has been obtained from a number of sources. Election results from the immediate post-reorganisation period were painstakingly collected by Alan Willis largely, although not exclusively, from local newspaper reports. From the mid- 1980s onwards the results have been obtained from each local authority by the Elections Centre. The data are stored in a database designed by Lawrence Ware and maintained by Brian Cheal and others at Plymouth University. Despite our best efforts some information remains elusive whilst we accept that some errors are likely to remain. Notice of any mistakes should be sent to [email protected]. The results sequence can be kept up to date by purchasing copies of the annual Local Elections Handbook, details of which can be obtained by contacting the email address above. Front cover: the graph shows the distribution of percentage vote shares over the period covered by the results. The lines reflect the colours traditionally used by the three main parties. The grey line is the share obtained by Independent candidates while the purple line groups together the vote shares for all other parties. Rear cover: the top graph shows the percentage share of council seats for the main parties as well as those won by Independents and other parties. The lines take account of any by- election changes (but not those resulting from elected councillors switching party allegiance) as well as the transfers of seats during the main round of local election.

  • 1841 Census for Woking
1 1841 Census for Woking This census is useful for Woking insofar as the Tithe Map is of a similar date and although it is unusual for a property or even a street to be shown in the census returns, the owner and/or occupier in the Tithe Apportionment can, with luck be found in the returns. Although in some instances it would appear that the enumerator visited each dwelling in a pre-determined order, it should not be assumed that adjoining entries are necessarily neighbours. This is certainly the case in respect of the section covering the Town Street, Shackleford and Kingfield tythings. The enumerator obviously entered what he heard and the entry is often incorrect, the name of the inhabitant being spelt incorrectly. In addition, the spelling of some of the enumerators leaves a lot to be desired. In some instances the original entry has been corrected here by reference to the baptismal register for St Peter’s but this has not been possible in every case. Sometimes the enumerator has used abbreviations eg Willm for William and these names have been amended to the full spelling. This has sometimes been difficult due to the enumerator’s writing. Some of the abbreviations relate to occupations and these abbreviations have been left unaltered. Examples are: 1 = start of household Y = born in Surrey ag lab = agricultural labourer d = days fs = female servant I = born in Ireland ind = independent j = journeyman lab = labourer m = months ms = male servant N = not born in Surrey paper m = paper maker pump m = pump maker S = born in Scotland shoe m = shoe maker U = unoccupied 2 Exact ages in years are given for children up to the age of 14 inclusive.

The West House Beech Hill Mayford Woking, Surrey GU22 0SB 29 July 2015 Planning Policy Team Woking Borough Council Civic Offices Gloucester Square Woking Surrey GU21 6YL Dear Sirs, Re: Woking 2027 DPD Consultation I am responding to the DPD consultation as a resident and home owner in Mayford. I have been a resident of Mayford for some 28 years and have been made aware of the Woking 2027 planning proposals that will impact Mayford. My comments are not specific to any of your documents, however I will refer to the specific site references that I am concerned about: Site Reference: GB7 (Ten Acre Farm, Smarts Heath Road) I strongly object to the proposal to increase the number of Traveller Pitches on this land. At present, Woking's Traveller sites are concentrated in one part of the Borough: Hatchington, Burdenshott Road (one mile from Ten Acre Farm), Ten Acre Farm, Mayford, and Brookwood Lye (three miles from Ten Acre Farm). Mayford already provides a major contribution towards the Traveller Community. There is no justification for further expansion in Mayford. In addition, Ten Acre farm is adjacent to Smarts Heath Common, an SSSI, used by residents of Mayford for leisure purposes. Any increase in the present Traveller site of five caravans at 10 Acre Farm would decrease the visual amenity and character of the area and also increase risk to wildlife due to increased number of domestic animals in close proximity. Over the years, successive Planning Inspectors have refused applications on this site because they reduce the openness of a Green Belt area.
