ALBUQUERQUE

35°05.000’N 106°39.000’W [ 1 ]

35°04.459’N 106°38.989’W When we first embarked on this project, our goal was to create a book of images reflecting the many looks of Albuquerque, .

This collection was to be primarily a tool, providing visual information for location managers and producers seeking a city in which to shoot their films. With New Mexico’s wonderful tax incentive and loan programs, we felt this would be a helpful and far reaching tool to start that process – an armchair guide to Albuquerque that would inspire film professionals to book that flight and check us out.

We gave the approach to this project considerable thought and instead of just procuring a group of great imagemakers we decided to look at the city cinematically, from one person’s point of view. Oh! what we discovered. Frankly, even we were surprised at the results. As a matter of fact, people who have lived in Albuquerque all of their lives are surprised at what we captured.

So let your imagination take you through this wonderful Southwest city and don’t be surprised if you too discover the East Coast, the beautiful South, the arid desert Southwest, southern California, the Midwest, New England, the south of France, Tuscany , Spain, Morocco and many other places. The journey is lim- ited only by your imagination.

Albuquerque? Yeah, Albuquerque! [ 2 ]

The cinema is something between art and life.

S T I D E R C If a casual viewer of these images finds them attractive, intriguing PRODUCED BY Gail Smerigan for Albuquerque Studios or entertaining in any way, then that is a pleasant and gratifying by-product of my intentions. However, the intent was to do the very best to think as a cinematographer, a director, or a screenwriter and PHOTOGRAPHY include elements in each image that would stir the imaginations of Michael Barley these visionaries. In the case of the cinematographer, the opportunity to imagine a low to high crane shot, or the reveal of a slow dolly left DESIGN AND PRINTING or right at a specific time of day. For the director, to provide enough Don Mickey Designs, Inc. stimulation to enthusiastically block a shot or to envision multiple scenarios from a single location. For the screenwriter, to include the kinds of textures and visual elements that lead to the enrichment and amplification of a developing script. Only the surface has been scratched in this first effort. This city of Albuquerque is opulent with layers upon layers of diverse and intriguing locations and cultures for the industry. This has merely been an introduction.
