WouldWould YouYou kisskiss thethe LeperLeper Clean?Clean? FROM FATHER PHIL

My Dear Parishioners and Visitors,

“Will you kiss the leper clean and do such as this unseen, and admit to what I mean in you and you in me?”

hese are the words from the third verse of Fr. John Bell’s hymn, The Summons. This verse, in particular, brings me close to tears each time it is sung. What a beautiful depiction of a love that knows no bounds. In Zeffirelli’s film Brother Sun, TSister Moon , during the early stages of St. Francis of Assisi’s total con- version to God, we see Clare sharing bread with the outcast lepers of As- sisi, St. Francis is appalled and turns away. As his transformation under God’s grace takes place, he himself is able to witness in similar and ex- traordinary ways God’s love.

Wednesday marks the beginning of , culminating at Easter, the greatest, most wondrous and permanent change the world has known. I hope that we, like St. Francis and Clare under the grace of God, as indi- viduals and a community will dare to receive the love that is offered by God and share it unashamedly.

Pray about celebrating Reconciliation during Lent. If you do not usually frequent this sacrament, as a family, create time in your home for prayer together, not forgetting that silence shared (small doses at first) has the potential for touching and changing hearts. If you are able to attend an extra time, try it. Remember the lepers you might not even notice and see. They can be recipients of what food you have chosen to give up. These gifts can be brought to the basket near the in the gym on Sun- days and and in the Fellowship Hall near the ambo, lec- tern during the weekday Masses.

Please pray for me as I pray for you, fondly,

Fr. Phil Lloyd CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE FEBRUARY 11, 2018

his is a very exciting time at our parish! Despite the significant physical disruption of our campus, it seems that we have settled into a routine that has preserved the special sense of community we have here at St. Theresa in Memorial Park. T While we still have a significant amount to raise, with the blessing of the Cardinal, we began construction on the church and school in December of 2017. To date, over $8.249M in gifts and pledges have been raised towards a goal of $12.1M.

CAMPAIGN GOAL: $12,100,000 PAYMENTS + OUTSTANDING PLEDGES: $8,249,000 WE NEED TO RAISE OR BORROW: $3,851,000

We recognize that we have new mass attendees every weekend and that we have had new families join our school and early childhood center since the beginning of the Campaign. For that purpose, following is a brief review of the Campaign.

IMPROVEMENTS TO THE CHURCH

For many years major church repairs (roof leaks, inadequate air-conditioning, bro- ken pews, etc.) have been deferred in anticipation of a total renovation of the church. Additionally, due to growing mass attendance (what a great problem to have!) more seating is needed.

Therefore, some of the highlights of the church project are:  The addition of a large narthex (church entrance) on east side of the sanctuary  New pews  New flooring  State of the art lighting and sound  Additions to our liturgical art and fixtures (e.g., Altar and  Baptismal Font) IMPROVEMENTS TO THE SCHOOL

Along with the recent growth in our parish, our school, which includes grades Pre- K3 through 8th, has experienced a significant increase in enrollment. Beginning in 2015, temporary buildings have been needed to provide the required classroom space. To accommodate and foster the growth of the school, the Capital Campaign will fund the construction of a two-story building that will also house:  Sixteen classrooms  A science lab  A sacred space for worship and prayer  Administrative offices

GO MAKE DISCIPLES DSF 2017 Goal Reached!

I want to congratulate and offer my gratitude to everyone who participated in the 2017 Diocesan Services Fund, Go Make Disciples.

St. Theresa reached the assessed commitment goal of $117,000 for DSF 2017. Cardinal DiNardo has sent his congratulations and appreciation for our efforts with completing this goal.

The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston is home to 1.7 million Catholics and is one of the largest social service providers in Texas. The DSF supports 60-plus ministries offering specialized children’s services, faith for- mation, support to the clergy, housing programs, pro-life activities, social ser- vices, sacramental preparation, health services, religious education, refugee and immigration programs, and countless other ministries serving those in need.

Thank you all for your generosity in completing our goal,

Fr.

St. Theresa Early ChildhoodNEWS Center is growing and growing…

In three short years, our early childhood program has grown significantly. Our children are thriving as they graduate to St. Theresa Catholic School, affection- ately known among the toddlers as “big school”.

The St. Theresa Early Childhood Center (STECC) team works diligently to maintain an environment and curriculum that meets the ever-changing needs of every enrolled infant and toddler. We recently implemented new classes that help bridge the gap between the Early Childhood Center and St. Theresa Catho- lic School.

Coach Paul has scheduled time for our toddlers to attend a gross motor skills class in the gym. This class helps developing preschoolers to grow their mus- cles and become familiar with the school surroundings.

Ms. Techmanski, our school librarian, has graciously allowed use of the library once a week for a group reading session and to learn about borrowing books. We are exploring the campus, seeing quiet spaces and learning to walk in a line while carrying important things.

Lastly, we just began our “Escuchando y Cantando” (Listen and Sing) class with Ms. Eva. Our Early Childhood program encourages our children to learn English and Spanish in a musical way.

As our surroundings change, we are excited to be a part of the St. Theresa Cath- olic Church and School evolution. We look forward to many years of growth and are humbled and grateful for your continued prayers.

Warmest regards,

Cindy Clements Director, St. Theresa Early Childhood Center in Memorial Park | Learn, Love, Grow
