'Perfect Isn't Enough' ‘Perfect Isn’t Enough’ - The And Ensemble Music Video The Band ‘The And Ensemble’ consists of three members Joe Collins (right), Abby Hall (middle) and Angus Williams (left). The And Ensemble are a York based band. The Band’s main focus is on studio recordings and music videos over live performances. They’re young, quirky and often share a comedic outlook that is expressed in their song and videos. The Song - ‘Perfect isn’t enough’ - The song has a 60’s pop vibe to it like Dusty Springfield’s ‘Wishing and Hoping’. - The song is upbeat and catchy and will easily get stuck in your head. - The lyrics are a female saying perfect isn’t enough while listing all the qualities she wants out of a partner in a romantic relationship. - The Lyrics can relate to Meghan Trainor’s ‘Dear future husband’ - The target audience for the song is teens and young adults. Some of the top music videos this year Out of the top 25 YouTube channels, 10 are music channels - SocialBlade Boys - Charli XCX Similar music genre - simple style. Similar music video ideas Example of the band’s past videos Video Montage (Click screen) The idea Due to the fact that we only have limited time with the band we have decided to keep the video simple. By shooting everything in a studio space over 2 days with green screen to change the colour of the background as shown in the other video examples. The band like to express a fun and carefree attitude through their video usually by joke and physical comedy by Angus. We show this using bright and colourful costumes and backgrounds while dancing and the use of slow motions gags (e.g. throwing paint or food). Our budget of £500 will be spent on these costumes and props, which we believe will easily cover the costs. Storyboard of the idea.

  • Dear Future Husband’: Young People’S Critical Exploration of Gender and Sexuality in Pop Music Videos
Networking Knowledge 10(3)Sex and Sexualities in Popular Culture (Oct. 2017) ‘Dear Future Husband’: young people’s critical exploration of gender and sexuality in pop music videos ELLY SCRINE, University of Melbourne ABSTRACT This study aimed to explore how young people can critically engage with music videos to explore dominant constructions of gender and sexuality. As the primary consumers of popular music and music videos, adolescents are also a group who exist in a unique sociocultural space, where both misogyny and feminism are present in their highly media-driven lives. This study used focus group workshops with young people in high school to generate qualitative data based on the participants’ discussion and interpretations of gender and sexuality in two music videos. Seven groups of young people aged 14 – 16 analysed two popular music videos and reflected particularly upon discourses of expected femininity and female sexuality. Discussion elucidated insightful analysis around gendered subjectivity, and presented three complex and opposing themes, which are explored in detail. A cohesive thread emerged in the data in which young people demonstrated their capacity to identify hegemonic gender constructs, while also relying on these constructs to read and police the women shown in the music videos. KEYWORDS Gender, sexuality, popular music, music videos, adolescents Gender in young people’s current lives Young people establish their identity and independence through the broader political, cultural and socio-structural contexts in which they operate. High schools exist not only as a physical place in which adolescents spend a significant amount of their time, but also a socio-political sphere where the performance, negotiation and reproduction of gender norms are enacted through overt and covert structures (Blakemore, Berenbaum, & Liben 2013, 365).

  • Analysis of Meghan Trainor 1
Running head: ANALYSIS OF MEGHAN TRAINOR 1 Change-Maker, Home-Maker, or Booty-Shaker? An Analysis of Meghan Trainor and Her Contributions to Mass Media Content Susan J. Smith West Liberty University ANALYSIS OF MEGHAN TRAINOR 2 Change-Maker, Home-Maker, or Booty-Shaker? An Analysis of Meghan Trainor and Her Contributions to Mass Media Content Following closely in the footsteps of such iconic pop singers as Madonna, Adele, and Beyoncé, Meghan Trainer has emerged as a celebrity music sensation and an icon of American popular culture at just twenty-three years old. With her chart-topping song releases, including “Dear Future Husband”, “Walkashame”, and “All About that Bass”, it appears that Trainor is openly defying the stereotypical representations of women that often permeate mediums of mass media. In the lyrics of her songs and the content of her music videos, she strongly advocates for women to embrace their sexuality, along with her promotion of self-love and acceptance of all body types. Trainor’s media content also encourages women to openly reject the unwanted advances of men. Meghan Trainor, therefore, has been depicted by numerous news and media outlets as a progressive celebrity, who represents a positive and inspirational role model for consumers of her music media content, specifically pre-adolescent and adolescent girls. Other media critics and scholars, however, have expressed their concern regarding the influence of Meghan Trainor and her media campaign upon these consumers, suggesting instead that these attempts at promoting empowerment are further reinforcing the sexualization of women and contributing to the post-feminist “Girl Power” discourse and ideal.
