The group, which has produced such hits as "More Than a Woman" from the film, "Saturday Night Fever," got its start singing at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, New Bedford, Mass. The Tavares brothers went back to put on a benefit for the parish's 75th anniversary. "IT WAS GREAT," said Sacred Heart Father Raphael Flammia, the parish pastor. He remembers the brothers, who regard him as a second father, singing at a 1957 parish benefit. Father Flammia, proud owner of a Tavares jacket given him by the brothers, encouraged their singing career. Now, that career has produced a Grammy award and gold and platinum high-selling records. Some of the group's popular pieces include "Never Had a Love Like This Before" "She's Gone," "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel," and "Check It Out." Their success and return to the parish makes their surrogate father very happy.
