Pop Band A-Ha Takes on First Ever Full Length Virtual Reality Concert!

WonderWorld VR brings the first ever full length VR-concert to the masses together with the legendary pop group a-ha. A-ha has just completed its sold out world tour “Cast in Steel”, ending with a number of concerts in their home country Norway. A selection of them where filmed in virtual reality and have now been put together into a full scale VR- app experience for all the fans around the globe to see. -It is a truly immersive experience to stand on the stage right beside the lead singer Morten Harket and keyboardist Magne Furuholmen as if you are part of the band, says Simon Romanus, founder of WonderWorld VR who made it all possible by producing, editing and distributing the unique VR-content. Anyone with a smartphone can download the app “aha vr” to Android or iPhone. The material can also be viewed on YouTube in 360 or VR. A-ha has always been in the frontline when it comes to innovations, starting with the classic music video “Take on me” from 1985. The decision to try VR wasn't too hard to take according to Magne Furuholmen. “We are delighted to present the worlds first recorded full length VR-concert from one band. We have tested the result and the feeling of standing on scene with ourselves was quite surreal. This technology will allow people to share an experience of live music in new and innovative ways. Rolling the snowball: Norway’s efforts to electrify transportation Nathan Lemphers Environmental Governance Lab Working Paper 2019-2 Rolling the snowball: Norway’s efforts to electrify transportation EGL Working Paper 2019-2 September 2019 Nathan Lemphers, Research Associate Environmental Governance Lab Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy University of Toronto [email protected] Norway’s policies to encourage electric vehicle (EV) adoption have been highly successful. In 2017, 39 per cent of all new car sales in Norway were all-electric or hybrid, making it the world’s most advanced market for electric vehicles (IEA 2018). This high rate of EV ownership is the result of 30 years of EV policies, Norway’s particular political economy, and significant improvements in EV and battery technology. This paper argues that Norway’s sustained EV policy interventions are not only starting to decarbonize personal transportation but also spurring innovative electrification efforts in other sectors such as maritime transport and short- haul aviation. To explain this pattern of scaling, the paper employs Bernstein and Hoffmann’s (2018) framework on policy pathways towards decarbonization. It finds political causal mechanisms of capacity building and normalization helped create a welcoming domestic environment to realize early uptake and scaling of electric vehicles, and subsequently fostered secondary scaling in other modes of transportation. The initial scaling was facilitated by Norway’s unique political economy. Ironically, Norway’s climate leadership is, in part, because of its desire to sustain oil and gas development. This desire steered the emission mitigation focus towards sectors of the economy that are less contentious and lack opposing incumbents.

June 2014 Press Release Dovecot Studios and Magne Furuholmen collaborate to create Glass Onion tapestry Following an introduction from Paul Stolper, Dovecot Studios are delighted to be working with Norwegian artist Magne Furuholmen on an exciting new collaboration in tapestry. Dovecot invited Furuholmen to the Studios in early 2013 to consider a tapestry project and following a series of conversations with Dovecot’s weaving team, he returned to the studios in late April 2014 with a selection of design ideas derived from a series of ten large format woodcut prints collectively known as Norwegian Wood. Furuholmen has created a new print titled Glass Onion, specifically as a design for the tapestry, using music as its main reference point. Dovecot are particularly thrilled by this project as Furuholmen’s holistic approach to his practice as an artist - continually assessing his modus operandi and experimenting with various media – will ensure that his involvement in the creation of Glass Onion will be rewarding for all those who are involved in the process. The Glass Onion tapestry will be woven at Dovecot under the supervision of Master Weaver Naomi Robertson. This process will begin in June 2014 and continue throughout the Edinburgh Art Festival to be completed before embarking on a tour in late September. Three of Furuholmen’s Glass Onion woodblock prints will be displayed as part of Dovecot’s summer exhibition Current Exchanges: Dovecot and the Australian Tapestry Workshop, and viewers will be able to watch the weavers work on the tapestry from the Balcony. A major exhibition of Magne Furuholmen’s work is scheduled at Dovecot for early 2015.
