This is a very stressful time of the year. Finals are approaching, papers are due, and students are thinking about summer jobs. The stress may feel overwhelming. However, stress doesn’t have to be negative. Used appropri ately, stress can motivate you to do your best and can add excitement to your life. The key to good stress management is to prevent prolonged stress. Therefore, use stress to meet the immediate challenges you face. Then, when you have met the challenges, take time to sit back and enjoy the feeling of achievement. It is very important to learn to relax between periods of stress in order to allow your body to return to its relaxed state. Even an hour or two can be helpful. Sometimes we try to escape from stress rather than learning to manage it effectively. One way we do this is by avoiding the situation.
