Headteacher Bradon Forest School L25 to L31 (£76,141 to £88,187) The Athelstan Trust wishes to appoint an excellent teacher and school leader to the post of Headteacher at Bradon Forest School from September 2021. The Athelstan Trust is a Multi-Academy Trust formed in 2015 consisting of four (soon to be five) secondary schools (Malmesbury School, Bradon Forest School, Sir William Romney’s School and The Dean Academy) in Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. Bradon Forest is a successful and popular 11-16 school with approximately 1,000 students in the rural village of Purton, surrounded by stunning Wiltshire countryside with easy access to the M4. There is shared sixth form provision with Malmesbury School. Bradon Forest School was inspected in 2016 and judged Good in all areas. All the Trust’s schools share a deep commitment to delivering an excellent comprehensive education to all our students. At Bradon Forest, we continue to update and develop our attractive site following the construction of our new state of the art sports hall in 2016, adding a new food and textiles block in 2018. Our mix of modern and traditional learning environments gives our school a unique, individual feel that is welcomed by students and parents alike. It encompasses the secondary schools The Stonehenge School in Amesbury and Avon Valley College in Durrington and includes primary schools which feed into secondary provision in the Community Areas of Durrington, Lavington and Salisbury. However, the School Planning Area (SPA) is based on the area(s) served by the Secondary Schools and covers schools in the towns and surrounding villages which feed into either The Stonehenge School in Amesbury or Avon Valley College in Durrington.

I hope that everyone enjoys the holiday season with their families and friends. Thank you to all staff, teaching and support, for their continued hard work, support and professionalism over the last year. Bradon Forest has a staff team who work extremely hard in supporting all aspects of school life. As a school we can be proud of our wide range of achievements, many of which have been reported in this term’s Parents’ Newsletters. We are sure that 2011 will be another successful year for our busy school and look forward to reporting on the many and varied activities and student achievements in future newsletters. YEAR 12 PRESENTATION EVENING 2010 On Thursday 18 November 2010 last year’s Year 11 students came back to Bradon Forest for their Presentation Evening. This was the final Awards Assembly of their five years at Bradon Forest. It was an enjoyable evening with many parents and relatives attending. The evening provided an opportunity to celebrate a wide range of achievements of academic, sporting, cultural and community achievements. It was also a pleasant social occasion and a chance for last year’s Year 11 students and their families to catch up on all their friends’ news.

An academy is an independent state school that is run by an Academy Trust, a legal body operating similarly to a charity. Whilst the academy is funded directly by the Government, it is no longer run by the Local Authority. This means that academies have more freedom and control over the school curriculum, hours, and term dates. The Academy Trust enters into an agreement with the Secretary of State for Education that sets out its responsibilities and accountabilities for the effective running of the academy. What is a Multi-Academy Trust? (MAT) A Multi-Academy Trust is a legal entity that governs a group of schools through a single set of trustees. It is set up by a group of schools, usually a local collaboration, that share a common ethos and vision. A MAT is accountable for all academies within the group. Academies are answerable to the Trustees and to the Department for Education (DfE) rather than to the Local Authority. A MAT is a charitable company, limited by guarantee. This means that it is registered at Companies House.

Dear Parents PARENTS’ NEWSLETTER – ISSUE 4 NOVEMBER 2009 INTRODUCTION As most of you will be aware, one of our school buses, the B8 that serves Sparcells and Peatmoor, was involved in an accident with a tractor on Monday 16 November 2009. Fortunately the injuries were not as serious as they could have been. Three Year 8 girls were taken to hospital, two were discharged that evening returning to school the next day. The third Year 8 girl had a dislocated shoulder and needed surgery to remove glass from her hand. Difficult situations such as this can bring out the best in a community. I would like to thank all staff, the emergency services, parents and students for their support, kindness and consideration during a very difficult 48 hours for the B8 students, their families and the Bradon Forest community. (The letter to parents/press release that we produced has been put on the school website www.bradonforest.wilts.sch.uk under the newsletter section as Parents’ Newsletter Issue 3A.) BRADON FOREST STUDENT, PARENT AND STAFF SURVEYS As a school we regularly run a number of surveys and questionnaires each year on a variety of specific issues. However, it is five years since we ran a whole school survey for parents, students and staff. Earlier this week, questionnaires were distributed to all students, parents and staff. Your son/daughter would have brought home an envelope containing the parental questionnaire with a white return envelope. The student questionnaires contain a brown return envelope. When you have completed your parental questionnaire, please put the form in the white envelope, seal it, and your child should hand these in to his/her tutor.

The Athelstan Trust Mid-Year Report to Parents March 2020 Caring, Collaborative and Excellent SIR WILLIAM ROMNEY’S SCHOOL POISED TO JOIN THE TRUST The Athelstan Trust is a successful, collaborative family of schools that each have their own individual identity and culture according to the communities within which they are located. We are delighted that the Governing Body at Sir William Romney’s School in Tetbury recently voted to join us. There is a strong mutual benefit both for the schools already in the Trust but also to Sir William Romney’s which is a good school with strong outcomes, an excellent reputation as a caring, inclusive school and close proximity to Malmesbury and Bradon Forest. There is already a history of working together through the Avon Teaching School Alliance, the ‘Gaining Ground Project’ and Model United Nations days. There has been a process of legal and financial due diligence and staff from all schools within the Trust have been collaborating with staff at Sir William Romney’s to identify ways to work together, share resources and learn from each other. ‘Sir William Romney’s continues to grow in numbers and we are very proud of students’ achievements not only in GCSE exams but across all aspects of our curriculum. People took part in a range of activities that included cardio, mini and junior tennis coaching as well as family and free play tennis sessions. Wiltshire and Swindon Disability Tennis Network plan developed in 2015. Disability Tennis Taster Days were held and Disability Tennis sessions now taking place across Wiltshire.
