  • Black Friday and Christmas Preview 2017 a Report Looking at What We Can Expect from Black Friday and the Online Retail Christmas Trading Peak in 2017
Black Friday and Christmas Preview 2017 A report looking at what we can expect from Black Friday and the online retail Christmas trading peak in 2017 A report researched & compiled by IMRG, supported by INTRODUCTION – A SETTLED PEAK PERIOD? When we talk about Christmas peak in retail, these days we tend to mean Black Friday. Or at least the Black Friday period, to be more accurate. There are other peaks of course, but that’s become the one that really matters for many. It’s been fascinating to watch this event evolve over the past few years. The scale of it is so huge that it appears to be a bit uncontrollable. Its character changes, the period it covers extends (might it contract again?), tactics and strategies adapt to suit this new format of peak trading. And therein lies part of the problem. It’s such an important time of year for sweeping up a share of the huge (albeit, often discounted) spend that goes through the virtual tills that the approach retailers take does seem to have become a bit safe; a bit uniform. We’ve had 3 years of this new format peak trading now and the first year (2014) was a bit traumatic. Retailers don’t want to (indeed, can’t afford to) miss out on having a successful peak, so they do what seems to work. Andy Mulcahy But – and it’s a big but – this thing doesn’t ever seem to settle into Editor, IMRG a reliably predictable pattern. It’s shown a remarkable capacity for evolving in size and scale each year and the opportunity for innovation is absolutely ripe for those who find clever ways to stand out against their competition.

  • “It's Looking Like Christmas” Mark 1:1-8 December 6, 2020
“It’s Looking Like Christmas” Mark 1:1-8 December 6, 2020 “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.” Thanksgiving is done and the leftovers have probably all been eaten. Black Friday deals are over. Cyber Monday is done, and Giving Tuesday is past. As we go about our lives, we see that the Christmas decorations are going up, lights are being hung, and people are busy shopping in person or online trying to find the perfect gifts for family and friends. So, how are your preparations going this year? We all know that Christmas can be a busy time of the year with all of the things we need to do, and God definitely understands that quite well. He knows what it is like to prepare for Christmas as He had to prepare the world for His Son’s arrival. In our Old Testament lesson from Isaiah, we see some of those preparations. In Isaiah’s day, about 700 years before Jesus was born, God was already planning the return of His chosen people from Babylon to the land of Israel through the Babylonian King named Cyrus. He was already orchestrating the events to get him into power, and to set into motion the events that would get His people back home. He even had Isaiah write that He would send a messenger who would prepare the way for His Son. Later on, God had the Romans come into power, and they were the ones who practiced crucifixion and put people like Herod and Pontus Pilate into positions of power.

  • Black Friday and Cyber Monday Shopping Scams
Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping scams Although there are some fantastic bargains to be made on what is known as Black Friday (this year 24th November) and Cyber Monday 27th November, unfortunately there are criminals who take advantage of this through various scams and on-line fraud. According to a report from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) 51% of UK shoppers plan to shop over Black Friday and Cyber Monday and three quarters of all spending will be done online or by mobile. Black Friday 2017 itself is expected to be the biggest day of spending the country has ever seen with UK shoppers expected to buy £10.1bn worth of goods over the next week. In Portugal on-line shopping fraud is the largest in terms of all on-line frauds and is increasing considerably. To reduce the risk of becoming a victims here are some tips to follow. Buy from traders you know and trust When it comes to shopping online, it's always safest to stick to familiar shops and brands that you know you can trust. There are some stores online that aren’t mainstream brands but are still trustworthy places to shop. If you feel you must shop with an unknown trader, make sure you research them first. Usually the best thing to do is look for reviews of the website and a reliable way to contact the site owner that isn’t just email in the event your delivery goes wrong. The most obvious things to look out for that signal a scam website are, firstly, website quality and copy/editorial quality.

Speaking in the main lobby of the historic Everett Mill, Rivera said “Ten months ago we stood in this room and kicked off our campaign for Mayor of Lawrence. Many of the people standing in this room were part of that event and have been with us throughout the campaign. On that day, we made a commitment that if elected we would govern this city with integrity, with honesty, and with professionalism. Most importantly, we made a commitment to making Lawrence better for every single one of its residents….As everyone knows we’re still waiting for the outcome of Saturday’s recount, and the transition process will not begin until that is complete. I want to be clear that we are not taking anything for granted in terms of the outcome, but at the same time we think it is the responsible thing to do to get the transition process underway. Lawrence has waited long enough for real progress and we cannot afford to lose a single day.” “The transition will reflect the way we intend to govern: thorough, thoughtful and professional.
