From the Provincial The clarion call from our last General Chapter and Enlarged General Council, “Who is my neighbor?”, set before us the challenge to open our hearts to the cries of our earth and its people. The call to live in solidarity with our brothers and sisters throughout the world is the heart of Jesus’ question to all people of good will. The concerns surrounding issues of the neighbor and stranger in our country have touched our hearts and consciences. These issues strike at the heart of who we are as Americans and Christians and urge us to be involved in ways that put shared biblical values into practice. We share the call of the gospel and you, our faithful benefactors, share with us the challenge presented by our international Ursuline community. During this year we have experienced the global reality of our Ursuline family which extends for us the awareness of neighbor and we have responded.

  • The City of Newark
TO ALL President’s Message Inductees, Scholarship Recipients, Family and Friends, It is with great honor that I welcome you tonight, to our 30nd Annual Newark Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Dinner. Since 1988, we have been honoring athletes from public and private schools in and around the City of Newark. Our initial purpose was to focus attention on Newark’s glorious past and its bright future by creating a positive environment where friendships, camaraderie and memories can be renewed. Tonight we continue that tradition with eighteen new Inductees and four Scholarship Awardees. The Honorees have proven, as in the past, that they are to be recognized as true role models, a characteristic very much in need these days, whether in a large city or a small town. You can turn to a bio page in this or any one of the previous twenty-nine books of inductees and find a role model you can be proud to emulate. The hallmarks of a good athlete are dedication, desire, teamwork, hard work, time management and good sportsmanship. These are the same qualities necessary to succeed in the classroom and the workplace. That’s why our Hall of Fame Family of Inductees are to be viewed as success stories, on and off the field. To our Scholarship Award Winners, you have been recognized to possess the characteristics outlined above; therefore, we wish you good fortune in college and hope to see you back here one evening on the dais, as a future Inductee into the Hall of Fame. Finally, as Newark has become a hotbed for professional and college sports alike, we must not forget the high school and recreation level athletes and support their efforts.

By the nature of the survey, the listings in this reportare incomplete. But what emerges from the information is clear: thereare many different kinds of alternatives. In providinga brief description of each schoolor program, the editors have attempted tt-, use theworis of the educators in the school. The schools andprograms themselves break down into certain clear categories. Thereare the small independent "family', schools such as Albany, New York's TheFree School, and there are the schools-within-a-public-school suchas Princeton, New Jersey's Learning Community. Thereare programs within schools, public and private, that are an option fora particular grade or age level; while guidance or career-oriented optionslike Horsham, Pennsylvania's are also frequent. Then, too, there are the experimental elementary schools--largeones like Philadelphia's Pennsylvania Advancement School and smallones like the Bucks County Montessori Association's Children'sAcademy in Langhorne, Pennsylvania.
