Bgen Gert Bode NATO Meritorious Service Medal Seasonal Allergies Vs Coronavirus SHAPE Community Life June 2020 In Memoriam: BGen Gert Bode NATO Meritorious Service Medal Seasonal Allergies vs Coronavirus EDITOR’s Letter ots of books about psychiatry refer to how emotions are affected by seasonal changes. There is a “seasonal” common feeling depending on what’s going on in specific months, such as Lsummer holidays, back to school time, etc. How do you think the after-lockdown period will affect us in the very near future? According to these types of studies there is a mixture of emotions only due to the seasonal change, so if we add a bunch of emotions/sensations that we are now experiencing related to the worldwide pandemic itself and to the lockdown associated to it, this coming summer will most likely cause multiple emotional impacts/ effects in our lives. How could we integrate the feelings related to the “new normal” with the seasonal ones? Are you already in the summer mood? Once borders are no longer a stopover to travel, how do you plan your summertime holidays? Are you planning to go abroad or stay nearby? With family or friends? In any case, whatever decision you take, please keep in mind that security is a must and we all have to follow the health and safety procedures no matter where we are or where we go, for our own welfare and for the welfare of our community. Ramadan is also a time for spritual reflection, prayer, performing good deeds and spending time with family and friends. Normally, people make a special effort to connect with their communities and reach out to people who need help. Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days depending on the lunar month and there is a special festival to mark the end of Ramadan. This is called Eid al-Fitr – the Festival of the Breaking the Fast. In Turkey, nationwide celebrated holidays are referred to as “bayram”, and Eid al-Fitr is referred to as both “Şeker Bayramı (Bayram of Sweets) and Ramazan Bayramı (Ramadan Bayram)”. It is time to people put on their best clothes (referred as bayramlık, often purchased just for the occasion), visit all their loved ones (such as elders, relatives, neighbours and friends) to pay their respect. It is also customary for children to go around their neighborhood, door to door and wish everyone “happy bayram”, for which they are awarded with candy, chocolates, traditional sweets such as Baklava and Turkish Delights, or a small amount of money at every door. • A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS Synopsis
A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS Based on the television special by Bill Melendez Synopsis One Act (55 minutes) Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and all your favorite Peanuts characters come together to retell a classic story about finding the true meaning of Christmas. It’s almost Christmas and the kids are enjoying the season. Well, everyone except for Charlie Brown. While the others ice skate, throw snowballs, and receive Christmas cards, Charlie Brown is feeling depressed about the holiday. Even Snoopy, dressed as Santa, is getting in on the fun. The kids catch snowflakes on their tongues (although Lucy informs the group she only eats January snow), create a snowman, and throw snowballs at a can (which Linus eventually knocks down with his blanket). But, in spite of all the merriment, Charlie Brown is still sad about Christmas. Charlie Brown decides he needs to talk to someone about his sorrow. He goes to see doctor Lucy. Lucy, after happily accepting his money for her service, asks Charlie Brown what he fears. He reveals that he’s feeling down about Christmas. Lucy’s remedy? Charlie Brown needs involvement and she finally convinces him to direct the Christmas play. Much to Charlie Brown’s dismay, Snoopy is decorating his doghouse for Christmas in an effort to win prize money. Meanwhile, Linus and Lucy are attempting to craft the perfect letter to Santa Claus. And, reluctantly, Charlie Brown even helps his little sister, Sally, write her letter to Santa. It’s Charlie Brown’s first rehearsal as director of the Christmas play. However, things quickly go awry.

  • LINER NOTES Print
LONG NOTES GEORGE WINSTON LINUS AND LUCY – THE MUSIC OF VINCE GUARALDI – VOL. 1: George Winston on Vince Guaraldi (Vince’s name is pronounced “Gurr-al-dee”, beginning with a hard “G) “Vince Guaraldi once said that he wanted to write standards, not just hits, and that he did,” says George Winston. “His music is very much a part of the fabric of American culture, but not many people know the man behind the music, and it is unusual for someone’s music to be better known than their name (some other composers who have also been in this situation are Allen Toussaint, Randy Newman (in the early and mid 1960s), Joni Mitchell (in the mid 1960s), Leonard Cohen (in the mid-1960s), Laura Nyro, Percy Mayfield, Otis Blackwell, and Wendy Waldman). If I play Linus & Lucy and other Vince Guaraldi Peanuts pieces for most kids they will usually say right away, ‘That’s Charlie Brown music’. Vince’s soundtracks for the first 16 of the Peanuts animations from the 1960s & 1970s continue to delight millions of people around the world, and many of his albums remain in print. I like to help make the connection for people that Vince Guaraldi was a great jazz pianist, and that he was the composer of the soundtracks for the first 16 of the Peanuts animation, as well as of many other great jazz pieces. Vince’s best known standards are Cast Your Fate to the Wind, Linus and Lucy, Christmas Time is Here, as well as Skating, and Christmas is Coming. A lot of Vince’s music is seasonal, and it reminds me very much of my upbringing in Montana.

  • A VINCE GUARALDI HOLIDAY Wednesday, December 22 / 8Pm
MEDIA RELEASE For Immediate Release December 14, 2010 THE ROBERT SCOTT TRIO PERFORMS THE CLASSIC JAZZ SOUNDTRACK TO THE SEASON AT THE LEBOVIC CENTRE FOR ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT! A VINCE GUARALDI HOLIDAY Wednesday, December 22 / 8pm “Robert is one of the most dynamic players I have ever had the opportunity to work with. He is simply a force of nature.” Michael Bublé Stouffville, ON (December 14, 2010) – The Lebovic Centre for Arts & Entertainment – Nineteen on the Park proudly presents The Robert Scott Trio’s A VINCE GUARALDI HOLIDAY as the final concert in its 2010 Seasonal Concert Series. A talented if little recognized jazz pianist when his composition “Cast Your Fate to the Wind” achieved hit status in 1962, Vince Guaraldi was then commissioned to score the first Peanuts television special, A Charlie Brown Christmas. Guaraldi’s spare and infectious melodies became an essential part of the TV specials and that original Peanuts score remains a seasonal favourite. When Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz called on Vince Guaraldi and his trio to compose and perform music for the 1965 Christmas TV special, the result was a score that reflected the charm and innocence of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the entire Peanuts gang. Guaraldi’s elegant arrangements reflected the spirit of Schulz's work and introduced contemporary jazz to youngsters with grace, charm, and creativity. Guaraldi’s arrangement of "What Child Is This" touches on cool jazz's richly textured percussive nuances, while "The Christmas Song" reflects Christmas' relaxing, mellow moments. The renowned "Linus and Lucy" gives the Peanuts characters a fresh, energetic feel with its meter changes, brilliant percussion and humorous piano lines.

  • There Are Three Composers That I Have at One Time Or Another Tried to Play
Love Will Come – new long web notes: There are three composers that I have at one time or another tried to play all of their songs: New Orleans R&B pianist Professor Longhair, The Doors, and Vince Guaraldi...Vince Guaraldi and his music are so much a part of the deep heart and soul of San Francisco, and of the experience of childhood, and beyond.” — George Winston In 1996, George released his first album of Guaraldi compositions, entitled LINUS AND LUCY - THE MUSIC OF VINCE GUARALDI. It nicely mixed well known-standards like the title track and Cast Your Fate to the Wind, with less well-known material, including some music cues that had only been heard in the soundtracks. George’s second album of Guaraldi music delves even deeper into the repertoire, uncovering some hidden gems. Like many musicians of his generation, George Winston first heard the music of San Francisco based jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi on his 1962 hit Cast Your Fate to the Wind, and on the 1965 televised Peanuts® animation special A Charlie Brown Christmas. First aired on the CBS network in 1965, the television special was created by the Peanuts® comic strip creator Charles Schulz (1922-2000), writer/producer Lee Mendelson (1933-2019), and former Warner Brothers animator Bill Melendez (1916-2008). Vince Guaraldi was hired to compose the jazz soundtrack, a bold step for network television at that time. Vince completed the diamond that was the Dream Team. At first, some executives at CBS weren’t fully on board about using jazz for the music soundtrack.

Charlie Brown and friends bring Christmas joy to Coterie crowd J. Robert Schrader & The Coterie Theatre By Bob Evans For years, the classic TV cartoon, A Charlie Brown Christmas delights young and old alike annually when the show airs, and even though it’s well-received and loved by generations, nothing compares to the live action version of the classic that opened Friday, Nov. 10 at The Coterie Theatre inside Kansas City’s Crown Center. This time, the Peanuts gang return with several local actors reprising their roles, but some new, very talented actors joining in for this year’s holiday production. J. Robert Schrader & The Coterie Theatre Charlie Brown opens the show and expresses his disappointment that he just does not understand the hype of Christmas and seems to be over-thinking the situation. Seeking help, he sees Dr. Lucy, pays her his nickel, and still does not feel any better. So, Lucy asks him to direct their Christmas pageant, where he is given the task of selecting the J. Robert Schrader & The Coterie Theatre Christmas tree for the show. As the show progresses, all the other characters express their Christmas anticipation while Charlie and Linus hunt for the prefect tree. Finally, Charlie Brown, a.k.a. C.B. find a tree that needs love, and bring it back for the show.
