MEDIA RELEASE For Immediate Release December 14, 2010 THE ROBERT SCOTT TRIO PERFORMS THE CLASSIC JAZZ SOUNDTRACK TO THE SEASON AT THE LEBOVIC CENTRE FOR ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT! A VINCE GUARALDI HOLIDAY Wednesday, December 22 / 8pm “Robert is one of the most dynamic players I have ever had the opportunity to work with. He is simply a force of nature.” Michael Bublé Stouffville, ON (December 14, 2010) – The Lebovic Centre for Arts & Entertainment – Nineteen on the Park proudly presents The Robert Scott Trio’s A VINCE GUARALDI HOLIDAY as the final concert in its 2010 Seasonal Concert Series. A talented if little recognized jazz pianist when his composition “Cast Your Fate to the Wind” achieved hit status in 1962, Vince Guaraldi was then commissioned to score the first Peanuts television special, A Charlie Brown Christmas. Guaraldi’s spare and infectious melodies became an essential part of the TV specials and that original Peanuts score remains a seasonal favourite. When Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz called on Vince Guaraldi and his trio to compose and perform music for the 1965 Christmas TV special, the result was a score that reflected the charm and innocence of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the entire Peanuts gang. Guaraldi’s elegant arrangements reflected the spirit of Schulz's work and introduced contemporary jazz to youngsters with grace, charm, and creativity. Guaraldi’s arrangement of "What Child Is This" touches on cool jazz's richly textured percussive nuances, while "The Christmas Song" reflects Christmas' relaxing, mellow moments. The renowned "Linus and Lucy" gives the Peanuts characters a fresh, energetic feel with its meter changes, brilliant percussion and humorous piano lines. "Christmastime Is Here", perhaps the album's most endearing moment, is six minutes of soft, lullaby-like melodic and percussive flavors. This collection of melodies would not be complete without the romantic gem "Skating" which blends musical references to falling snowflakes with the dashing feel of swing. Finally, the uplifting, emotionally stirring swing tune "Christmas Is Coming" brings the listener into the joyous light of the Christmas spirit. 45 years later A Charlie Brown Christmas continues to serve as a joyous and festive meditation for the holiday season. For this very special concert Robert Scott will perform selections from this classic score as well as other holiday favourites. In 2008, Robert's lyrics were nominated for a Juno Award. The song "Cigarette" (lyrics by Robert Scott and Jeremy Fisher) appeared on Fisher's 2008 album "The Scar that Never Heals" as the lead single. Robert was nominated for the 2008 Louis Applebaum Award, presented by the Ontario Arts Council once every three years. The award is for excellence in the field of jazz composition, and is adjudicated by an anonymous panel of music-industry "heavyweights". Robert’s solo piano album, Pianoptic, features several brilliant original compositions as well as covers from Radiohead, Phillip Glass, Jelly Roll Morton and Dave Brubeck. CBC Radio chose Robert's "Pianoptic" as one of its 'Fresh Air: Best of 2008'. In addition to Pianoptic, Robert pays tribute to the earliest years of jazz with "Makin' Strides", a 'duo' album of New Orleans-style blues, boogie-woogie and ragtime.
