Deborah Robertson iii Abstract In response to leadership in contemporary workplaces being under pressure from a neoliberal agenda, in which workers are often seen as economic subjects rather than persons entitled to fulfilling work, the purpose of this thesis was to develop a theology of leadership for Christian leaders. The study is placed within the theological sub-discipline of practical theology understood as bringing together, rather than being separate from, other sub-disciplines of theology such as systematic and moral theology. The intent of this practical theology is to support Christian leaders in enacting a theology of leadership that deepens their understanding of the kingdom of God and "what it means to be a people of God". Existing theology of leadership literature is explored to establish the elements of a theology of leadership. A conceptual framework is developed comprised of the three core concepts of purpose, people and praxis, within which are contained twelve essences. The content of this framework led to an investigation of Christian social teaching, as well as secular social justice, leadership and organisational literature, to judge whether these areas can fulfil and expand the elements of a theology of leadership. A model of a "theology of leadership: from social justice for transformation" is then presented. It is argued that this theology has the potential to guide and support the work of Christian leaders, in both faith-based and secular workplaces, for the purpose of individual and social transformation and the common good. Four contemporary business organisations are analysed using the model and it is argued that it is possible for this theology of leadership to be enacted in many contemporary workplaces. A further chapter identifies and discusses resources which can support the Christian leader in both the professional and personal realms in the enactment of a "theology of leadership: from social justice for transformation". v Acknowledgements The author acknowledges the exceptional support provided by Murdoch University in the completion of this thesis.   • Reverend Peter Schneider
    Reverend Peter Schneider Peter Schneider was born on October 8, 1806 in Schoenborn, Alsace. He was the son of Joseph Schneider and Eva Steckle. His education was at the Lycee at Zabern, before he entered the Novitiate of the Redemptorists in Vienna, Austria. For reasons unknown, he did not stay with the Redemptorists for long. At some point after leaving, but before arriving in Canada, he served in the Diocese of Strasbourg. It was during that time that he evidently decided to become a missionary in the Americas, and left for the Diocese of New York. Around 1830, Bishop Alexander MacDonnell invited him to come to Canada, which was in need of priests at the time, and sent him to the seminary in Montreal to finish his priestly studies. He was ordained on June 19, 1836 in Montreal. Father Schneider was a formidable man even in his youth, possessing a commanding bearing and the ability to speak three languages (French, German and English). One can only imagine the impact he would have had on the rural communities he served. His first such assignment was in Amherstburg and Sandwich, where baptismal registers suggest he was in the area from 1836 to 1837, focusing more on Sandwich in the latter half of that period. By 1838, he had taken up residence in Goderich, ministering to the Catholics there and in the surrounding areas of Guelph, Wilmot and Waterloo. While doubtless Father Schneider was held in great esteem from the start, due to his presence and his demeanor, an event recalled during this time speaks to the respect and esteem he enjoyed among Catholics and Protestants alike, which was not common in those days: the tale has it that he was walking alone to Goderich when he came across a group from the Protestant- affiliated Orange Order.

MORELAND† Christian Legal Thought is a much-anticipated contribution from Patrick Brennan and William Brewbaker that brings the resources of the Christian intellectual tradition to bear on law and legal education. Among its many strengths, the book deftly combines Catholic and Protestant contributions and scholarly material with more widely accessible sources such as sermons and newspaper columns. But no project aiming at a crisp and manageably-sized presentation of Christianity’s contribution to law could hope to offer a comprehensive treatment of particular themes. And so, in this brief essay, I seek to elaborate upon the treatment of the principle of subsidiarity in Catholic social thought. Subsidiarity is mentioned a handful of times in Christian Legal Thought, most squarely with a lengthy quotation from Pius XI’s articulation of the principle in Quadragesimo Anno.1 In this proposed elaboration of subsidiarity, I wish to broaden the discussion of subsidiarity historically (back a few decades from Quadragesimo Anno to the pontificate of Leo XIII) and philosophically (most especially its relation to Leo XIII’s revival of Thomism).2 Statements of the principle have historically been terse and straightforward even if the application of subsidiarity to particular legal questions has not.

We lose our direction and look for something or someone else to follow: a charismatic leader, the latest trend, the most popular text. When none of it works, we are left scratching our heads and wordlessly wondering what it is we are doing wrong. It is the quandary of the 21st century church, and for the purposes of this paper, The United Methodist Church in the Kentucky Annual Conference. Some churches grow no matter what. Some churches close no matter what. Yet, the possibilities for substantive growth may have measurable potential if every church restored what it means to follow our Rabbi. In the case of Christendom, our Rabbi is Jesus the Christ. We keep reading more books and attending more seminars, yet it does not seem to catch fire the way we imagined it would. Church membership dwindles, baptisms and professions of faith are sometimes rare occurrences, so we are missing something. Through the distribution of surveys to pastors within the Kentucky Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church who have utilized either Spiritual Leadership Inc. or 3DM as their top choice for renewing church vitality and what it means to “make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world,” this dissertation seeks to rediscover what it looks like to follow our Rabbi Jesus and what we ii are missing that keeps us from fully realizing our mission statement and our Commission from Christ.

It can be one of the most common questions of classical thinkers and current scholars of international relations. The basic idea behind this question is to find out a solution to the war phenomenon. Do rationality, strategic calculations or only cognitive variables sufficiently explain the violent behaviors? This research discusses how different methodologies can contribute to theorizing or understand the international conflict behaviors of leaders. In this context, on a qualitative basis, psychobiography, psychohistory, leadership trait analysis, integrative complexity method are explained along with the quantitative findings and theories of leaders and international conflict. The sample consisted of 50 students from each country; results concentrate on Jordanian perceptions. Assessments were based on the Associative Group Analysis (AGA) which reconstructs perceptions and attitudes.characteristic of national/cultural groups from their free word associations. Jordanians tended td. ix conflict-ridden and laden with perceived threats and fears of 'aggressive, expansionist.intentions. When compared to a 1977 assessment, 4n increase in their longing for peace, less concern with military threat, more concern with violence and security, and a deterioration in their image of the ited States was evident. Egyptian and I.sraeli perceptions were ilar to the Jordanian emphasis on group and family unity, while Americans valued, individualism and autonomy.
